Training with Haiden Deegan!

With the second day of training out at the Bennick Compound, we hit the ground running- continuing to hone-in our skills riding in the ever-changing sand! Kiah, Tate, and Chad had a blast training with Haiden Deegan, learning as they watched the young motocross star prep for the past weekend at Southwick. It's always a great experience for the kiddos watching a kid like Haiden ride, as they see the hard part of the sport before the fun day of racing! 🤙🏼
Welcome to TwoTwoTV! We're the Reeds. Chad Reed is a multi-time supercross and motocross champion and the record holder for the most main event starts in AMA supercross history, with 265 starts! Ironically when Chad retired from racing, the kids decided to start. It’s a full circle movement for the Reed family. Join us as we navigate retirement and also starting again. We bring you on the journey as our kids learn with Chad and Ellie. Taking a fresh approach to coaching and learning with a major focus on fundamentals and solid foundations. Our hope is the viewers can also learn and be inspired as the kids strive for their own success in this great sport. We hope you enjoy the ride!

Look at where Haiden Deegan is on the bike, when he is landing. He is virtually sitting on the back guard. He jumps like old school BMX. How far rearwood has he set his pegs, He just seems to hang out over the back of the bike more than anyone else 17:26

One thing for sure about young Mr. Deegan besides being a class act who always has time for the kids. He is a sponge for learning the secrets of speed from the best riders he can access. Being able to immediately apply and prove that knowledge with a stopwatch is super impressive . He's always had a WFO riding style but his collaborations with past champions the last couple of years has added patience, flow and even some on demand beast mode to it. If he can stay healthy his "style" should evolve into potentially one of the greats!

I honestly forgot all about Prado! He'll have a year to know the tracks before Deegan rides 2026 MX. Jcoop is fast, but I'll be shocked if he wins more than 3 450 MX races in his career. He'll probably win from a weed fest, or top guys are out. I don't think Tom's style will translate over to a 450. He needs to put 15 pounds of muscle on him and not fade late in the Motos. Hard to add that weight and keep better stamina than he has now. 🤔🤷‍♂️🤘

The great late Rush drummer Neil Peart at the height of his career took a drum lesson from a world renowned jazz drummer Freddie Gruber I believe. In the Rush documentary Freddie was interviewed about the lesson. Freddie simply said that Neil was already a great drummer and close to technically perfect. You would have to watch the documentary but Freddie basically just gave him some pointers on not looking like he was trying to be technically perfect and they worked on moving the drum sticks in the air and never really even touched the drum kit. I have it in my head that was what Chad prolly did for Deegan…..

Chad threw Tate into the deep end riding with Haiden!! It would be hard to argue that Haiden didn't show what proper prep entering the pro ranks looks like. Kiah continues to pack on skills heading to The Ranch. Chad added a lil sand speed to the current lites class points leader, judging by the results.

Interesting point you bring up. I started to realize that the faster I could go, the advice from others changed as did the suspension. Things that used to work, became useless and didn't apply anymore. This seems to happen all the way through that journey, so it's good to teach your kids that early. I learned to ride in the sand, and it is definitely a great way to start the sport because it really does round out your experience and it is also a sort of prep for mud racing. Strange things happen to a bike under power on sand, and the same is true for mud. I did crave the hard packed tracks because it seemed to be nice to have lines that didn't change so often, and lips that stayed consistent, but I was out of my element the few times I raced on blue grove. I loved the WFO style needed to go fast in the sand. I was naive to ever think that MX or SX tracks could have rubber on some spots so when I first saw that one day, I was surprised because I had never thought of that. Anyway, good vid and your humble attitude is a refreshing addition to your input. I think each generation seems to get better, so it can be hard to teach a kid like Hayden who is so far ahead of most when it comes to doing whatever has to be done to win. I agree with what you said about the top guys. Most of the top 10 are extremely fast, but people like yourself, RC, MC and Bubba are the exception to the rule and just have that something extra in their heart to go the extra to make it happen. You came into the USA scene at a time where we had the best, MC dominating the sport, and RC and Bubba showing they were the next super talent, but still you came here and did an exceptional job of showing how bad you wanted it, even while surrounded by the Worlds best in SX and MX in your classes at that time. That's a heck of a way to get started here. Still, you won races and championships during that same time, which is a stunning feat to pull off so kudos to you. Your style was very smooth and precise and far from reckless, and it paid off. You reminded me of MC because of your precision, but you surprised me outdoors and also won a championship out there. Considering the timing of those wins, you did something very special and extremely unlikely, so I hope your children are fully aware of who's training them. It's hard when they are young, but as they grow up, they will start to realize the benefit of having you as their trainer. I would also expect all this work to pay off once its time to go to the higher levels. It looked to me in this little 2 part video that they both got a good bit faster the 2nd day. I also saw them both pulling wheelies over things and even over-jumping some landings like Hayden. I used to spend hours and hours watching the top guys in slo-mo, trying to pick up everything I could to get faster, so Im sure this experience was awesome for them. Not too many youths get to ride with the top guys in the sport, so what a cool gift to have Hayden out there with them. Anway, having a flashback now so I better go, or I'll write a book. lol Appreciate the video, and the storys of the past. It helps us to re-live that time once again. I miss it terribly, but it's cool to have several options like this to keep up with the current racing World. God Bless You.

Sand can be tough, when I first started racing sand at ECMX I would crash 5 times a moto and have to repass the same people over and over it’s the only time I have cried out of frustration over motocross. Then one day I went out for Saturday practice and it felt like I never let off the throttle and from that day forward it was my favorite track and I dominated many races there after that.
