Larry krono also said something like this, but “encouraging/training” the opposite of the behavior will make the desired behavior even stronger. Has worked great with my dogs! Also I wish people could see something like this and not their emotions get in the way of they’re seeing. If they could get past the intensity, which is something you are wanting, so many fundamental behavioral “issues” would be solved in 10 seconds. Don’t let a dog do something you didn’t ask, while they are engaged and having fun with what you are asking them to do. The amount of pressure, and intensity, would very obviously be a lesser degree if you were doing outs with a nice drivey lab. But the whole idea behind using frustration, intensity and excitement and channeling these things into a drill will increase your relationship exponentially. This is of course, like you mentioned, with a nice type of dog - not a nervy one who’s scared of its own shadow.

Like that you highlight that this isn't for all dogs, because it absolutely isn't. However, this dog is built for this, looks like he's going to be a beast... can't wait to see his progression!!

The penny has dropped with this today. I've only taught impulse control with food. My 14 month gsd is not that toy driven BUT. When i tried practicing his sit stay while he watched me play with his rope toy when i released him he suddenly had so much more enthusiasm for the game. Previously crap at tug he really got in to it and held on to the rope! All this dog training is certainly 90% training me and 10% training the dog 😂

reminds me soo much of my late sable short-haired german shepherd Jake, Looks the same, and sure as hell acted the same with the whipping his head around when he has the toy hes fighting for control of. Good video though and instructive about the pinch collar sensitization.

The way I train it is like this, after a little while of playing i make the game boring (no movement or interaction), when the puppy lets go he gets the out command and then as a reward the game starts again and is fun. Eventually he learns that an out leads to a fun rebite and the rest is easy. Edited to add, I only have very highly prey driven dogs.

He doesn't do that because it'll mess up the dog if he trying to train it for protection. The dog will learn to let go of the target if it stays still and that release could be very dangerous.

@@dennistoledo465 My dogs are security dogs, I very rarely out them from a man I choke them off to build frustration and because I think it's safer. That's just how I train young pups the basic command, if the pup starts coming off the bite prematurely just back tie it, wait for it to let go and take the toy/wedge away, next time he'll be a lot more possessive. He should know he only gets the rebite after the out command. Though that's never happened to a dog ive trained.

“I want him to out, but I don’t want him to out”😂. Maybe you should say, “I want him to be confused about the out so he looks like he has more desire for the object and won’t let go”. Yes frustration can build drive. Frustration for out creates frantic behavior, dirty outs, and confusion! Carry on!

Thats the rope is for to lessen the tension between them. He said it at the start .

Love your videos but you didn’t show HOW you taught the puppy to release the ball.

This is not a dog that didn't do the out before :-)

Graubears Grizzly Outs + frustration =frantic confusion and a life of addressing the issue of “frantic behavior” while constantly correcting for barking and outing rather than accomplishing more constructive exercises. Just look what Belgian Ring and French Ring dogs can accomplish in a 45 minute routine without all this nonsense at 2 years old. This is what macho guys “think is power”, but experienced trainers know it is trained and just makes for a life time of frustration for the owner to move onto more complicated activities.

So you train the dog to have dirty outs. You are not training him to be strong, you are training him to desensitize to prong, no you are literally training him to have dirty outs and look good to sell. You will be able to show a client look his outs are dirty because his drive is just so high. No, he has these issues because you trained him. These will be life long issues that aren’t needed. To each his own

I taught my 1 year old to let go with no corrections, no lead and collar... I just made it boring and she let go.... now she does it every time I ask and only grads it when I tell her. The reward was play and there is no need for punishment.
