@@STORMWARRIOR686 If you think that ‘all he did was put him on the ground’, we have very different opinions about how to train an equine. I can ride my horse or have him lie on the ground and it doesn’t look anything like this. Although, that doesn’t count. He is trained. Let’s just say that this is not how my horse was started. It is nothing like how I teach him to do anything new. Pretty sure this guy getting on their back is also done in an antiquated thuggish way. Can I get my horse to do something completely new in a day? Nope. Because I don’t think the equine version of waterboarding to get immediate compliance is the way to go. That’s pretty much this guy’s gig. He understands very little about how they think. And there is no excuse for being so unknowledgeable today. If you are into horses/mules, like this guy. If you aren’t, that’s different. Like you. I hope you are just trolling around the internet seeing what there is to see, and just haven’t seen enough to know this is way, way extreme these days. It’s cruel. And if you are actually a horse/mule owner and you think this guy’s methods are fine, we will never be on the same page. Hell, we aren’t even in the same library😆

You all have lost your minds. This guy is super professional, and very very effective (and yes, that's why people pay him.....he knows what he's doing). Real horsemen deal with real problems, and this was perfectly fine. Many many veterinarian techniques for procedures are done exactly like this. Absolutely nothing was even kind of out of bounds. It was done very well in fact. He even explains older techniques that were instituted as a pain mechanism which he doesn't do. You're dealing with an animal big enough to cause you serious damage, you don't fool around with them and just hope it gets better. I would venture to say that none of the people who have a problem with this are either owners or daily riders, but keyboard cowboys. Real life is messy and dangerous and requires actual action and teaching. This guy did a fantastic job.

If I hobbled him like that, there's a good chance I'd never get to touch his legs again either. Your gentle little jenny is trying hard to understand what you want and it seems you can't figure out how to tell her. She stays calm and looks to you inquisitively, what a good natured girl. There is no need to dominate a mule like this. I hope folks watching it don't get the idea that they should try it themselves. It's not problem solving.

So many of you know nothing of training fine mules. Max trains and sells some of the finest mules in the world. They’re well adjusted and not vindictive. What you need to understand is when you use terms like dominate you’re giving a negative connotation to a natural thing. Man does have dominion over the animals. But when you say leader it’s the same thing with less negative connotation. Mules absolutely must see you as leader, it is the only way to have a safe and good relationship with your mule. What he’s teaching his mule is priceless!! What might seem cruel on the outside is teaching multiple lessons that are life-saving. People want lol switch to clipping bridles or avoid the vice instead of facing it, and then one day your mule gets something on his ears while you’re riding and you end up in a horrible wreck. You’re also teaching him to stay calm in a wreck or when he is bound, and wait for you to help him or direct him. THIS instills trust and respect, and it will save your life. The mule is never in pain. He is calm and methodical and the mules respect him, they do not fear him. The mule respects he who makes him think and learn. This is not cruel, it’s lifesaving. Those of you who think being your mule’s best friend is the goal are going to get killed. Like a child, your first course is to establish trust and respect, and the friend relationship comes with time later after that’s established. Im currently working with a drastically ear shy mule. Im making progress, but the mule is stronger and bigger than the human and she always is about to keep her head high and get away from me, establishing she is untrusting of my and is the leader. I’m floored to try this because it will be a much safer way to work on this with my girl and increase our trusting bond too. We should all be so lucky to afford a Max Bishop mule! Keep it up Max!

I tried this method after months of trying to go slow and do it the “soft” way with nothing to show for it except a bruised thigh from where she kicked me and a mule who thought she was God. I have only done it once but I’ve already seen a significant improvement. It was to where I couldn’t even put a halter on her without her loosing her shit. This has helped me beyond belief, people who’ve never had to deal with one who would just as soon kick your brains out as stand tied doesn’t know or even understand that sometimes being gentle doesn’t get you anywhere but hurt. All these keyboard warriors just need to shut up and sit down bc they don’t know nothin about nothin.

Those hobbles should only be used if you want them for a lead horse and are letting them in a no fence zone to graze so they don’t run away. What he’s doing can and will break your horse’s leg/legs and you’ll have to put them down. This is abuse and can seriously injure your horse do not do this

And they’re put on wrong they should be loose around the top of the coronet band on the front legs and should only be used in a no fence zone what he’s doing is breaking the trust of the mule and will have late issues with it

Max absolutely knows what he is doing. He kept himself safe and the mule was never in pain or danger. These negative comments claiming abuse are anthropomorphic, attributing human emotions and intelligence to a mule. Max speaks mule. How do you think mules and horses treat one another as they establish dominance? It’s not with tenderness.

  • @rejectedpretzel4888

Ah, yes. Let’s become dominant by working the animals to the point of falling down, and why not break their legs while we’re at it! 🤡

  • @thegoatkid5388

a mule is a) not a horse b) you can not dominate mules in the long run. One day as soon as they catch you off guard they will kick your head in on purpose since they now hate you. The mule in the video hasn't learned a thing but is in shock and confused. you have to teach a mule by explaining things to it, but this guy lacks the ability to communicate what he wants so he forces it. I will be happy once the mule gets its revenge

It's really funny you say that considering the fact "methods" like this aren't only harmful for the animal, it's also incredibly dangerous for the person. Which speaks volumes about what's going on inside your head if you really think this is a legit way to gain an animal's trust and cooperation. The moment someone uses the word "dominance" when speaking about anything related to training horses, I cringe so hard I shrivel up like a f/cking raisin. People like you end up six feet under or disabled for the rest of their life because they got kicked in the head, and then the animal gets euthanized because it's "dangerous" and "aggressive." Tale as old as time.

What sense do you have, clearly the mule dose not like you touching him like that that’s why he is pushing you alway listen to the mules body language. And what type of trainer are you from putting leather on the mules legs and expecting for him to sand on his knees.you can not be doing this it is abuse.

The reason why she's fighting you is because you are hurting her maybe if you know how to be a real trainer and know how to do things right then she would trust you but you don't earn horses or mules trust because of your abusive training methods. How do you expect your methods to be so perfect when you're just hurting an animal oatney opening I think a local rescue League should get involved in this because you are legitimately hurting up animal and you're not even admitting it you're such a horrible person you don't even deserve to have animals if you're just going to abuse them and hurt them just for fun and you call this training this ain't even training this is more like how to hurt your horse or mule into trusting you
