Angus reminds me of my Landseer Newfie Ichinojo at that age (he's now 14 months old). His big issue has been mounting - he has a habit of mounting objects, and other dogs and people he meets for the first time (he is intact). Aside from that, Ichinojo's training has gone very well. He comes when called, he understands the meaning of "no," and he's always been very gentle around people, especially young children.

Angus is adorable but not rambunctious! Hoping for help with a 25lbs puppy that plays with by lunging and snapping at you; legs, arms, hands, face, hair. He's playing but it's not at all fun for me and it's hard to get away when he starts.

Maybe try playing more rigorous games with him like fetch or you could even set up an agility course in your backyard that he could run around a couple times so that he's too tired to do all of those things. Zak also has videos on jumping and biting that could help you out too. :)

Teach them to "Go settle" troops! So, get a mat or blanket & place it in the corner of your day room for eg. Walk the pup over to the mat; ask them to lie down (give a treat) ask them to stay (give a treat.) Increase the length of time of "stay" & the distance of yourself from them, always THEN intermittently reinforcing the stays with treats. Walk the pup over & instruct until he/she gets it. Soon you'll be able to point & say "Go settle" & they will, no matter how "rambunctious" a state they're in. This only took me a few days & is far more effective than simply trying to stop a behaviour. Redirect them to a new 1. Best wishes with your furry friends🙏🏻😙

Late reply, but here's two different suggestions: 1. Feed Sheerio in a separate room with a closed door, sometimes management can replace and/or enhance training. 2. When Onyx has matured and gotten some training, use Sheerio's mealtime to practice Onyx's down stay.

We just got a puppy she’s a German Shepard ( Nova )and we live in an apartment on the third floor which is rough when taking her out every hour or so we have puppy pads but she’s not interested in them and doesn’t use them we do take her and for the most part she both of her jobs but when we’re inside she pees like every minute it feels like... it’s like she doesn’t know how to hold it to where she really has to go pee like every moment she has pee she lets out and it’s just very very little she’s also very hyper and energetic I ty to train with little bites of a treat like I see you do but she wants play and bite my hands, and one other thing we have a chihuahua.... (Papi)and he’s a boy. He doesn’t seem to care about her but however everytime she comes near him or try’s to play he will snap at her, he minds for the most part like I tell him to be nice or to stop and he will but he’ll just run away, I know he probably just needs time to get use to it and realize that she bigger than him maybe he’ll accept her because it’s only been 2 days since we’ve had her.... kinda need some help or any advice, Nova is 7 weeks old and Papi is almost 8 years old he’s also really use to being the baby and the only one.

I have a 14 month Standard Poodle and we just got a new puppy. It is in fact her sister (same parents). The older dog and puppy plays together, somewhat rough, and I fear everytime I see Charlotte pin her down, and her mouth go around the puppy's neck. The first week it was like she was playing "soft" but now the puppy barks and pull her ears, so she gets rougher. I've never had a big dog and puppy together and not sure if it is normal. Sometimes I think the puppy is in distress/panic but as soon as they stop, the puppy goes back in. Should I be worried?

How do you get your male puppy/ young adult to stop marking around the house. Even after walks in the yard my schnauzer still wants to mark his spot at home.

So, I just (by just I mean a month ago) got a 4 month (now 5 month) old Schnoodle female from a puppymill and she has 0 socialization skills, terrified of everyone (except me and is now somewhat opening up to my sister that I live with) and when I try to get her around people, she freaks out. Like those stray dogs that people try to capture, kind of freak out. And I give the people treats to give her, but she will not take anything from them. And I do have another dog, a 2 year old miniature schnauzer, who is VERY smart and I taught him so many tricks, that took him like 2 days or less to learn each one, and I'm trying to teach the schnoodle shake and stay, and it's been 2 weeks of trying to teach her these and it's not clicking. Like at all. Is she being stubborn, or does she have a slight mental handicap? Cause just certain things she does makes me think she might be the latter. Like if I go downstairs to my room, and she sees me go downstairs, she thinks I'm upstairs and runs up the stairs, then starts crying while pacing and looking for me. Or like if I put her food down, she stares at it like she doesn't know if she can eat it or not. Idk, she just seems a little slow. So any help or advice would be great. She is my second dog and I have no clue.

To anyone who sees this- I have a four month old Aussie who we sent away to a 3-week training camp where she boards in a kennel with other dogs and she is assigned one trainer who she works with the whole time. She has already learned sit, down, stay, sit stay, down stay, and three different ways to heel. They have also been working on housebreaking her. We only had her for about a month before we sent her away. At this point she has about 1 week left. Was this a good idea? We can’t go back now, but what are the downsides of this training method? Thanks

You obviously want the best for your dog and a lot of people choose that route. My puppy was easy to train so we didn't send him away.He had masterd basic commands and was potty trained by 12 weeks using the bells. Most of those intensive training camp places use the shock collar which some people (me too) think is cruel ...but it works. You probably paid a lot of money for this training camp and they want to make sure that they have accomplished a lot. The trainer will have to make sure that your family is educated on the methods he used so you can be consistent following up when you get your puppy back.

Lauren G We trained our other dog at the same place, except not the same method. We would go with him once a week for two months and train with him for an hour. They do not use shock collars, but they do require the metal collars that pinch when they are tugged(I do not know what they are called). We call her trainer every once and a while and she says that she has improved on her aggression to strangers(especially little kids) and other dogs. They do spend an hour with our family at the end of training to teach us how to work with her, and we must continue training her. We also meet with the trainer after a certain amount of time after she leaves to see if we have been being consistent and she has not forgotten anything. Is there anything negative that could come after this?
