Training a German Shepherd that Chases Other Dogs!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This lovely girl Sheba joined our trainer Aleks on the Behaviour Modification Programme at Royvon Merthyr. Sheba would chase other dogs, particularly small ones which didn't make life easy for her owners! During her stay they worked on management techniques, improving her recall and developing her social skills. Check out our video to see how she got on and even see a little bit of her owners departure lesson!

I have a German shepherd who herds other dogs and barks whenever she’s off lead and allowed to free play; would this same training help with that issue? Working on heel, recall and leave it?

Just wondering how long this dog was with you guys and what the schedule was like for each days training? Amazing work! 😊

Do you know a controlled place to desensitize my GSD of other dogs? The place that you’re at in the video looks perfect. My dog is bigger than me so it’s hard to do it in a place where there’s no separation between my dog and other dogs.

I did all of this with my shepherd but now my shepherd is "ball aggresive" and only wants the ball and wont play fair with other dogs. without a ball he's fine. But i want him to just play fair with the ball. I'm afraid that if i train him to "leave it" (the ball) and reward him with a treat he will then just get possesive ovber the treat

My German Shepherd Max is over enthusiastic greeting dogs, he is 11 months and his training now has gone out the window...he would usually come back if called now he will see another dog across the park and run to say hi, which is not what I want him to do because they dont know my dog, i dont know theirs and its becoming an issue (some people have complained at me). I now keep him on leash but he is not really getting the exercise he needs, which is a good run. This is mainly because he is not toy driven, he does not like toys that much and I do have a long leash. So my question is how can I do this training technique without toys? I want him focused on me, to obey my commands and be a safe dog (on leash he is perfect), at the moment if I let him of the leash he becomes a nuisance and he wont listen at all, he also runs away from me if I try to grab him, turning it into a game.

I’m not a trainer, but I’ve found that my GSD only makes it a game when I chase her. As long as she’s not chasing anyone I usually try to get her to come to me
