I have watched him blossom with you. I am too old and really don't need another dog, but damn if I wouldn't like to have him! He reminds me of a dog we imported some 20 some odd years ago that had chewed up several handlers in Germany. We came to an understanding in the 6 months we had him and I loved that damn dog. He was clear headed but a truly dominant dog (so rare) but sweet as can be if he liked and respected you (and you didn't do stupid stuff) We sold him to a guy in Australia whom he chewed up and was put down less than a month after he got there. I was heart-broken. Please make sure the new owner is worthy of him.

I've had and trained Shepherds for almost thirty years. I've had East German, West German and Czech dogs. I now have a Czech dog and they very high drive dogs. You have to be firm when training these dogs but once you establish who the boss is they just love to learn and please. My current dog has high drive and will be very good in the protection work.

I wish you would breed mace or store semen from him. I think it would be really a nice cross with Axa from hardcore K9. Mace definitely has working German Shepherd in his pedigree that head and more bone compliment the Dutchie well. I would love to see him crossed with Malinois and then also with Mal working line German Shepherd

Mace really shows me the capability of the breed. We rescued our most likely Dutch shepherd Admiral 6 months ago when he was abandoned at our local dog park. We took him into the vet and immediately started working on obedience and house training because at 6 months old he had previously received apparently no training/abuse. I would never have purposely sought out the breed but I am retired and I could see that he needs an owner that he can be with 24/7 and after the last 6 months of living with us I could never find the right place for him that I felt could give him the proper care and have become too attached. Now I just want to step up his training as I know he is going to be with me for his lifetime now.

Totally agree with all your assessments- my husband and i have had german shepherds for almost 40 years, our fur baby is half dutch and half german shep. We had gotten other shepherds from our friend who does search and rescue, this guy is absolutely a Dutchie in temperment. We did not realize they are such a high prey drive, extremely protective of us, and we tried and tried to socialize him and he will accept grooming and boarding with the gals at the kennel but thats it. Ignores children, tolerates women, but will not accept males, including our grown sons. On the flip side at home with us he is the biggest goofball like a great dane. Absolutely adores my husband and is his heart dog. (Loves me too). We feel he has a good life with us and can run around our half acre (6ft fence), and as we live offgrid in a national forest, i can walk him for miles. Of course on a leash. I totally agree they are not a good breed for most owners. It is true what they say, i thought we were getting a g shepherd but we got a velociraptor!🤣 i really enjoy your channel and have found your training techniques to be very useful and humane. Hope Mace finds a forever home and job, he deserves it.

Don’t get too excited dude, a real bad guy, a serious threat ain’t gonna be put off by a dog, your thinking an adult brain can’t work around a dog with the intelligence of a small child? Will scare off a malnourished, crackhead mugger for sure, but professional criminal would neutralise that dog in an instance, Haz is a genius with dogs but dogs can only do so much, they’re only dogs, shepherds are good for apprehension etc but for man stopping power your better of with mastiff type dogs, but again, against a human threat that’s pre planned, no dog is gonna stop it, guess they give a sense of security & for those with the means that’s worth the money, but for serious criminals they’re not bothered if you own a $100,000 elite level protection dog or a rescue dog from the shelter, it wouldn’t make any difference on they’re ability to target you.

@Umar Khatab We are all aware something like, for ex, a gun would stop a protection dog, "dude". Many dogs can work as deterrent and what not, many can't. For a while I stopped commenting also bc of annoying know it alls like yourself. BUT I like to support this channel so take this 🧻 for the 💩you talk.

@@thejindoman7471 you don’t need a gun, a bite suit & some pepper spray will do the job, a net even, I’m not talking about deterring your average lowlife opportunist, my point was aimed at those who pay the price of an apartment for a protection dog thinking it will help the them in the event of a planned attack, which is usually the case when criminals target the wealthy, my point being that a dog (no matter how well trained) is the least of the problems they face when carrying out they’re plan. I’ve have a friend whose house was broken into by 3 burglars, he suffered multiple stab wounds whilst trying to evade the intruders, his trained dog attacked one of the intruders, they all fled the house but the dog was stabbed in the chest multiple times, thankfully survived after spending over 20 days in hospital, now these were opportunist low level thieves, & the dog deterred them from continuing, but serious criminals, who plan & have no fear, no dog will do any good for you if they chose to target you, hence my point that spending $50-100k+ on a protection dog is pointless, buying 2-3 decently bred German shepherds or better still Rottweilers/Mastiff breeds with basic protection training is a far, far better choice, way more of a deterrent & much harder to neutralise/plan around than a single high level dog, in my opinion that $100k+ dog is nothing more than a status symbol. I’ve owned dogs almost all my life, currently have 2 shepherds, 1 Czech/1 German Shepherd, believe me if I was to target someone a dog wouldn’t deter me in the slightest, the dumbest human is smarter than the smartest dog. Everyone should support this channel, Haz helps a lot of people , he knows his stuff, my comment has nothing to do with his work, it’s just a realistic understanding of the capabilities of a dog & the unrealistic expectations that some people have of they’re abilities in a real serious situation

@Umar Khatab I got what you were saying the first time around. I too had dogs my whole life, been in the animal industry most of my adult life. I understand the benefits and the limitations of a dog. I' m not some overzealous, clueless person wearing rose colored glasses. I however no longer have it in me to get into convos on this cursed site, with people trying to lecture me on things I am perfectly aware of. Seriously, my health has not been the same and keeps getting worse. It doesn't take much to choke a dog to death (happened to a police k9 killed by a teenager some years back) or even break its back. It's nonsensical to think a dog can prevail in every situation, but I'm sure there are people with that mentality out there. Oh well... I can't speak for all the reasons people get protection dogs, it is what it is. Haz does a great job at selecting and training k9s and finding them situations (family, PDs) where their skills are needed.

  • @umarkhatab1700

@@thejindoman7471 totally agree, my comment wasn’t aimed at persons such as yourself, I have lots of ignorant people who approach me when I’m out with the dogs & one of the things they keep asking about is “are they protection trained” or they tell me “you should protection train them”, I have never in my 40+ years of life needed a dog to protect me, due to the risk of serious injury/harm to the dogs neither would I want to put my dogs in the line of fire during a situation, I just hate it when ignorant owners see they’re dogs as weapons to defend against reprisals caused maybe by they’re own actions, I believe most situations can be prevented by ones own actions/attitude & respect for others. Like you said, protection dogs have they’re uses, I just believe having a really expensive, trained dog serves any purpose to a wealthy person other than as a status symbol to show they’re friends/associates as those that would target such high net worth individuals would not be you average lowlife, & anyone with half a brain can remove a dog from the equation with little trouble. Hope your health improves, never lose hope.
