Train your ears for mixing and mastering!
Музыка
Becoming familiar with the frequency spectrum is the foundation for developing a great ear. Crucial for producers, mixing and mastering engineers, but also anyone involved in the creation of recordings as well as live sound. More ear training exercises available on Patreon (this month's patron reward).

In this video, we begin by breaking down the full expanse of human hearing (20hz - 20khz) into seven broad areas: sub-bass (20hz - 60hz), bass (60hz - 250hz), low-mids (250hz - 500hz), midrange (500hz - 2khz), upper-mids (2khz - 4khz), presence (4khz - 6khz) and brilliance (6khz-20khz).
You'll also discover that frequency spectrum based ear training will seriously enhance your experience of music, allowing you to process what you're hearing in more detail. Songwriters, composers and orchestrators will benefit deeply from understanding the tapestry of frequencies that's woven by the instruments in an arrangement and, in many ways, it lays bare the underlying forces of orchestration principles. And all musicians will develop a finer degree of resolution for things like shaping tone and timbre.
Ready to take your ear to the next level? Let's get started!
Coming up in the series, we introduce additional ear training exercises as well as techniques that apply this knowledge. Any questions, just ask!

So nice to find a calm delivery that doesn't start with "HEY GUYS! WHAAAAT'S UPPPP".
Best teacher ever!
I always wanted to know what makes things sound 'distant' or 'close'. You just explained that with the concept of 'Presence'. Thank you so much!

If creating or understanding distance or closeness is something that interests you then checkout how reverb, transients, and volume effects distance as well! Presence is one small item in the list of many things that effect the perceived distance of a sound! I'm sure a simple youtube search would bring up plenty of good stuff!
I am blown away by this. brilliant very well done

What a cool video!!
Thanks a bunch.
Thank You 😊
So good video ...very important for all I think . ...
Definitely one I'll be needing more practice on - I tend to focus more on individual instruments rather than frequency bands, because while I found the sub-bass to be the easiest to pick up on, the others proved to be more difficult. if not couldn't find them at all. May even just be the headphones I was wearing, though (Sennheiser HD201).
Amazing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
😍good stuff

Hey... Something I like to use to practice hearing frequencies is a mobile app called hearEQ. It let's you use any music you want an isolates different frequencies for you to hear and quizzes you on them.
Thanks bro
