Quiet zone is not about not talking. One should'nt use the cellphone there or hear music loudly.

If you manage to have a quiet conversation then that's fine, but I choose the quiet zone specifically not to have children and obnoxious, loud people bother me. In the video it sounds like the whole carriage was talking, what's the point of sitting in the quiet zone then? Go to the restaurant and have a beer while you chat.

The Railjet Quiet zone is one of these things, up until about 1 year ago it was only indicated by little pictograms and did not work at all, the new green signage (as seen on this carriage), combined with the dedicated family Zone at the end has actually helped a LOT (at least on the domestic routes that i frequently travel) Even still it is very much dependent on the individual trip, sometimes you get to have peace and quiet even in the family car and other times it's like in this video. In my experience these days it actually works quite well when the train is at normal load since people have a choice on where to sit and there is not really a stigma to pointing the quiet zone out, however, when the train is at full load like at long weekends or during peak travel season when there are also a lot of tourists it tends to break down simply because people take whatever seat they can get their hands on. One thing I would like to criticize is that with the introduction of the Railjets they did away with the classic 6 Seat Compartments and opted for purely open plan coaches, hopefully, they will rectify that with the upcoming Railjet 2 and the coinciding refurbishment of the first generation Railjets. Until then: packing a pair of ANC headphones certainly does not hurt!

Their trains are really comfortable. The only thing I didn't like a lot was the restaurant prices! Really expensive!

No suelo viajar mucho en tren, pero diría que es por el diseño del Railjet, pues viaje en él otra vez la semana pasada desde Bratislava a Praga (en el Railjet de Ceske Drahy) y era igual de silencioso. Un auténtico placer. Muy pronto tendremos ese vídeo! Saludos! :)

I took RJ63 Railjet from Munich to Budapest, via Salzburg and Vienna in November 2016, travelled in 1st and was a really comfortable, well laid out train, with a very smooth quiet ride. I paid about 100 Euro for the 7 hour trip, then hoped on the Ister overnight to Bucharest. Loved Keleti Station, but was freezing when I got in about 16:20 and wasn't until about 1800, about an hour before leaving for Bucharest, I realised there is a small cozy 1st Class lounge at Keleti! Also Baross Etterem restuarant, near the front exit to station but inside, that made great goulash and coffee. So train and station get the the thumbs up from me. Thanks for video.

@@OnBoardHD Conscious choice to take the train, was an all train trip, Eurostar to Paris, Paris to Munich on both TGV and DB ICE, overnight Munich then the trains I mentioned. I actually live and work in Bucharest so was a change. I also took the Prietenia in February this year overnight to Chisinau in Moldova and back, now that is worth doing if you want the old soviet era experience. Look forward to your future vids.

Wow! Looks like a really nice trip! Im starting to book some trains together with planes. People seem to like the train trip reports, and I really enjoy recording them as well, so good for everybody 😅 I would like to make a trip on the TGV! Is it expensive?

@@OnBoardHD I did a few trips on TGV but Paris to Stuttgart cost me €69 first class one way.. Roughly three hours so for me good value..no meal included but they do take orders and deliver to seat and 2 to 1 seating not 2 to 2..so you can get your own seat.

@daveo At least on the east coast the population density should be high enough even in Australia. Yes, you have very little people for the overall area of your country, but almost everybody lives aroud only a few large cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane have double the population of the whole country of Austria in just 4 metropolitan areas).

Excellent work once again Lucas! The railjet….ah, one of my favourite trains and am lucky to be travelling on it on Saturday 31st from Munich down to Innsbruck. Strangely the OEBB only use the old Eurocity trains for the return journey, but never mind. I shall make the most of the outbound journey. Have paid first class supplement so will enjoy the luxury! As I will have eaten lunch in Munich I think from your menu the topfenknoedl with apricot sauce looks very tasty! Whilst in the Austrian Tyrol anyone can purchase a weekly travel ticket for 45 euro which gives unlimited travel, any time of day, on all buses, trams and trains - including the high speed railjets. Excellent value for those who are sightseeing. I intend to make the most of mine!

Sounds exciting. Will look forward to seeing those travel reports! Yes, Vienna to Innsbruck by railjet is a superb 4.5 hour trip and you can fly back with Austrian in an hour. I think they are replacing the Dash 8s with A320s on this route soon. Whilst in Innsbruck, be sure to schedule enough time to take a trip on the Stubaitalbahn from Inns hbf to Fulpmes and return. Its a spectacular line with stunning views. If you want a taster then watch Nicu Cristi You Tube video 'Cab view Line STB: Fupmes to Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof'. Its definitely worth watching - and then, doing, especially in deep snow like this!!!!!@@OnBoardHD

Hi Lucas . Enjoyed the video. It's great that you can travel by train and in a few hrs be in another country. And the train is a much more relaxed way to travel. Less security , easier boarding, and dining etc. Something great to travelling through the countryside. At the end of your video exiting the station in Budapest that big Burger king sign on the top of that beautiful old building looked so out of place. Shame really. Just looked odd. I'd love to see more train reviews..Cheers, gerard

Yep, as you've said, travelling by train has some advantages, especially the boarding process and that usually the stations are located in the city centre. Also, except you are travelling in business class, the food quality is far better in the trains (well, not all the trains, for example, Spanish cafeteria service is worse than on a plane...). I do agree with you about that Burger King sign, it's just horrible in that place. Completely disgusting. Tomorrow I'm travelling on the Ceske Drahy Railjet, from Bratislava to Prague. a 4h trip that, for sure, I will be recording! :) Once in Prague, I will go to the airport to take an Iberia flight to Madrid. ¡El Railjet mi tren preferido europeo! magnifica alternativa austriaca a la costosa construcción de lineas de A.V. y al aprovechamiento del material convencional compuesto por una magnifica locomotora Taurus-Siemens multicorriente que le permite circular por diferentes redes europeas, remolcando coches de pasajeros con una suspensión magnifica apta para 250 kms/h con el coche extremo con cabina, tipo push/pull.

2:01 : I think that Cityshuttle was just being shunted to the other side of the main station. On both sides are sort of yards were coaches and wagons are standing. they probably needed them over there.

@@OnBoardHD así es mi amigo, coloque distraídamente la mochila un poco más atrás de mi asiento ya que no había lugar arriba del mío, cuando me fui a bajar ya no estaba. Hice la denuncia a la policía en Keleti pero fue en vano. El problema que si bien no llevaba dinero en ella, llevaba mi medicación. Son cosas que pueden pasar en cualquier parte, fue mi culpa por descuidado. El año pasado volví a Budapest pero en avión para cambiar el mal sabor de boca. Pero todo bárbaro. El tren super recomendable, un abrazo

Nice trip report :) Short after the first release of the Railjet I travelled "Vienna - Munich" in the Premium Class. It was amazing, free food and drinks (they removed this service later) I don't drink alcohol so i didn't know if the free drink service was also in beer or wine. Vienna: Innsbruck: Second Class: was really nice - I always take a seat with a table. I travelled back in the First Class - I love the First Class because it is very quiet there, and you can order your food to the table. I don'T like it leaving my suitcase alone. Thanks so much, Sandra! :) I've been hesitating if travelling or not the Railjet business class. I think I will try it next time. How much does it take the trip from Vienna to Munich by Railjet? Innsbruck is definitely another place that I want to visit! One way by train and the way back by plane! :)

@@OnBoardHD The Journey from Vienna to Munich takes exactly 4 Hours. For Business class you pay an additional 86€ on Top of The usual 2nd class price. Reservation is included of course. Hope i could help. Greetings from Munich

ButterkeksHD 85€ Upgrade only for first class? WTF? last week traveled from Bregenz to Vienna. Almost the longest distance you can ride in Austria. Booked 3 days in advance. Would have paid 45€ for 2nd class. Upgrade for first class was 15€ and paid up another 15€ for Business class (the seats are almost comparable to Premium Eco seats in long haul aircraft). The ride was 7hrs but the upgrade were worth it.

@Benji. Zug well its kinda complicated but lets just say that i dont have enought money to go to Budapest and then switch to Vienna or Berlin or Frankfurt.

In front or back of you in seat, (or next to it :P) they are spoke Hungarian. And yess, Budapest, my country :P And yes, there can be more train trip reports, but I think the rate is 30% train trip reports, and 70% flight trip reports.

Haha YEs, the family that was in front of me was speaking Hungarian all the time! Actually, the kid was speaking really loud!! I had to edit a lot the sound to minimise his voice! lol I will continue to upload some train videos. People seem to like them, but of course, the plane ones will continue to be the main ones! :)

La estación de Viena (al igual que la de Praga) es como un pequeño centro comercial en donde, además, hay trenes jaja Están adaptando el modelo de los aeropuerto a las grandes estaciones de tren, y la verdad es que parece que funciona muy bien. El otro día grabé un vídeo yendo de Bratislava a Praga. En la próxima semanas lo subiré! :) Saludos!

Nice tripreport, as always! And of course I want to see more train tripreports here as well, I love them just as much as the tripreports by plane :) Is it possible to recline the seat in Economy on the ÖBB Railjet? Because on the ČD one you can’t. I was a bit disappointed, as I’m used to be able to do that on ICE’s and other long distance trains. (I like that on such trains if you recline the seats they actually move forward, so it does not impact the leg space for other passengers but only for yourself. Would be nice on planes, as I hate it if the passenger in front of me reclines their seat lol)

@OnBoardHD - Flight Experience I guess the railway companies were surprised that borders opened so suddenly again. But how do passengers get tickets for international routes then? Or are some routes still not in operation at all? I could book my Berlin-Prague tickets easily online on the ČD website.

@@OnBoardHD If I remeber right they often have that when actually shunting wagons with a ÖBB Hector locomotives. My guess is that the Hector may not have any door controls and thats why the doors are probably open. (Thats why you never see hectors on a normal route just to shunt.)

I agree with you! Speed, for me, is not the most important on a train. If I want the fastest transport I will take the train. I think some trains companies are losing perspective on that: just focusing on speed and not in comfort and the "train experience".

I opted for a Hungary-Austria mini-vacation at the Christmas markets in Budapest and Vienna. We chose to fly to Budapest and from there to travel by train to Vienna, hoping for an interesting trip. Disappointment related to the express trains from Budapest to Vienna and back was at its highest. OBB's RailJet trains are not an alternative to the plane, in fact they are not an alternative to any other means of transport. If you can opt for another means of transport, whatever it may be, do it. The tickets were extremely expensive for the services offered, the seats were dirty and scratched, there were no tables to be able to work on the laptop, musty smell, etc. In addition, for an express train, it had too many stops and the total time is extremely long for a high-speed train. In fact, these trains have nothing special compared to a daily commuter train apart from the name.

I like the Railjet train. It's quiet and smooth. We will take that in April but from Salzburg to Budapest in FC. I spotted our seats. We will have another one from Vienna to Prague. We will try Hungarian train from Budapest to Vienna. Budapest Keleti is beautiful but I didn't see the escalator. Is there a lift going down to the metro?Thanks.

Glad that you've enjoyed it! Yes, I think there are elevators. However, if you go outside the station, you'll find some escalators. Enjoy your trip! It sounds amazing! 😊

I hate the ÖBB railjet, the seat is very uncomfortable :| When travelling on the Budapest-Vienna line, I choose EC or IC or the CFR. Nice video

I've never travelled in those other trains. Actually, this was my first trip from Vienna to Budapest. I'm always travelling from Bratislava to Budapest. What I didn't like from the OBB are its restaurant prices. I found them ridiculously high! Very expensive! Greetings!

Are you planning to take the Nightjet at some point? Ive seen that you even made a video about the REX going between Vienna and Bratislava and I think you could really enjoy the Nightjet trains as many reviwers online say its pretty comfy :)

No es un tren de alta velocidad propiamente dicho, pero por vías adecuadas llega a los 230 km/h, lo cual no está nada mal! Eso sí, es comodísimo y super-silencioso! :) Saludos!
