I cant pick a favorite. As a kid who grew up watching the "I Love Toy Trains" series I love the J3 Hudson as they used it very often (and in 2 of their songs which I still get nostalgia for). As an adult I love 844 as its one of the few surviving steam locos here in America and there's tons of great vids of it. for anyone looking for that hit of nostalgia its "Streamliners" and "Ghosts of the Rails" both by James... something

I love this man by how he listen to his views and try to making his views ideas and make it possible

Its actually not the 844 blowing up its actually (I think not sure) blowing a cylinder head

I think that the UP 844 was the engine that Astrotrain used for his train mode in the G1 cartoon. (please correct me if I'm wrong) It was nice watching this video and catching up on the content. Thank you for such amazing videos Lazer!

Astrotrain was a JNR D51.

While many railroad historians tend favor the Dreyfuss Hudson as the fastest American steamer ever there's speculation that the UP FEF-3s were in reality the fastest not only in America but also the world since it never got properly speed tested.

There's this sense of satisfaction, knowing that the NYC Hudson finally lost. Bravo to you Union Pacific 844!

I prefer the NYC Hudson overall, the New York Central is my favorite Railroad

Laserjet, can you make another polar express where there is the real polar express which is pere Marquette 1225. And side by side union Pacific 844 with union Pacific coaches... The best model of polar express is in trainz but i think you can download it from somewhere for dovtail ts. The polar express coaches are also available with the train.

The fact that the Union Pacific 844 won this race doesn't mean it won fairly, cuz It was running on some type of glitch, cuz in that one video where Lazer jet was testing which American engine was the best or in other words (fastest) all of the engines programmed to go on 110% power soooo yea, I think the NYC Hudson still has to be beaten fairly

@@AdamPTrainz in real life, flying Scotsman hit its highest record of precisely 100mph, the HST accelerates and decelerates quicker with higher speed

Howdy! Think I might be able to answer this question for you. For a bit of background, I live in Utah, used to work the rails for UTA (awful railway, trust me), and I'm a passionate fan of Union Pacific and their steamers. 1: The US Government has no control over rail whatsoever, save Conrail which was formed by an act of the Federal Government. Railways are private enterprises, so the US has no say in how certain engines are or are not used. 2: UP-844 was a passenger engine during her hayday, and she was designed to be a passenger engine. She hauls fast and far, and rides quite smooth compared to other locomotives, but she's not meant to pull freight. Over flat land, she'd be capable of doing so, but you'd be much better off with engines actually designed to do that, such as the UP Challengers. She'd struggle in the mountains, which is why the Big Boys were created. 3: Steam is much more expensive and maintenance intensive than diesel is, not to mention there's nowhere near the same amount of versatility with crews. Keeping all your crews operating on the same machines or very similar ones reduces the amount of retraining needed to get them up to snuff. 4: Why do we need to haul freight fast? Freight rail in the US is usually run from factory to factory, or factory to distribution center (though even that is quite rare unless you're out east). There's no reason for anyone to stress about getting cargo anywhere as fast as humanly possible, provided it arrives within a certain window of its scheduled arrival time, all's well. 5: This is one of the biggest ones here. The majority of US rail is built for freight, and it's not rated for speeds much higher than 60-80mph. 844 makes a great express hauler, but you've gotta have rail that can handle her speeds and weight, especially since steam is typically much heavier than diesel. Until there's a massive need for express rail across the country, there's no reason for that rail to be upgraded. It's just not financially viable. With the insane network of airports across the US, most people would prefer to fly. It's faster, easier, and in many ways, more convenient.
