Ойындар

Hello and welcome back to another episode of Train Simulator 2021!
In this video we'll be back in the enhanced Class 455 EMU, however this is Volume 2 of the Armstrong Powerhouse enhancement packs for the Class 455. This replicates a more modern era for the Class 455 utilising South West Trains liveries as well as the modern Southern livery.
The scenario we'll be doing takes the Class 455 from London Waterloo to Hampton Court on a stopping service, set sometime in the Stagecoach South West Trains era.

The 57xx series units had the ex-508 trailer coach, the 58xx and 59xx don't have them they had their own coaches. The 508's were used at 4 cars on the south western region and when the 455's were built the 57xx sub class were only built with 3 coach's to make use of the coaches not require when the 508's were transferred to Mersey rail.

The 455's were never fitted with signal bells as they were originally designed to be DOO so the return to the Guard is the cab-to-cab call button hench why it's a higher-pitched 'beep' but I agree there is a lot missing from the pack

Ahhh that’s really interesting to know! I wasn’t aware of that but it’s a good way of working around the lack of buttons hahaha

@@JoeDobsongaming I drive them so I should know 😂 but when I first started I was a bit stumped as to where the signal bell was. My Driving Instructor took great pleasure watching me struggle to find it, then he told me there isn't one just use the call button on the Cab-to-Cab and let's get going!

The AC Traction Motors do not require AC Catenary or a Pantograph to work as long as the New Traction Package has DC-AC Converter then they'll work just fine! ALL Modern Units have AC Traction Motors over DC because they are much lighter! Also remember the 455s came out in the early 1980s and traditionally on the Southern it was "Ding Ding" from the Guard and the Driver would "Buzz Buzz" Back! Also the 508 TSOs are NOT ex MerseyRail they are from 508s but remember the Southern Region had the 508s FIRST they were reduced to 3 cars BEFORE transfer to Merseyside the spare TSO vehicles were stored somewhere on the SW network!

Im no expert either, but Basically the AC motors operate in a way meaning they have alternating currents. Where as DC means direct fed current. AC basically does a bunch of stuff DC doesent, basically making them faster In general . They were upgraded to be faster than their old DC traction motors. They dont jolt like the old 455s but have a smooth takeoff now. But tbh idk if the company did enough to refurbish them ,because their still not too fast . Whereas the 321s had a similar upgrade and are much faster than they used to be. ..weird how 321s improvement worked alot better than the 455s improvement. And it was the same company that upgraded both those trains from DC motors to AC motors to begin with.

It was more a case of if the units are running on 750v DC how do they use AC traction motors haha, AC with 25Kv overheads makes sense to me, same as DC with 750v DC haha

@@JoeDobsongaming well the motors are AC now , thags at least what people would say. Like tubes for example alot are AC but all run on a DC power source. I was confused too, but I guess theres the power source which is DC and AC based, and the motor, which is either DC or AC. Tbh I'm still kinda confused with how it works but I guess that's how it is ?🤣🤣

The Class 321 is an AC unit. The 455s are on the DC network (regardless of their traction motors being AC - that's just a converter). That explains the performance difference. Trains on the AC networks will always have dramatically better acceleration than those on DC networks.

@@BobC250 thats half true i think. Remember, the motors got upgraded o. the 455s to 300kw TSA AC motors. And the system also. The problem with 455s is they likely only take up the same exact power as they did before refirbishment. That means the traction system on board only allowes for the same uptake of power as the prior systems. Additionally it may also be limited by the contact shoes only taking up the same power also. In other words, SWR only got them replaced for the purpose of long life and efficiency and likely effective refirbishment. Because the old motors were likely more expensive to maintain due to how old they were . Swr likely didnt care as much for better power output. Hypothetically the 455s could use the same power as a 465, which isnt likely that much more. And would accelerate better as a result. Even on DC system. Its also likely a class 321 renatus on DC would accelerate the same as a 5 car electrostar on DC. Because it has the capability of its software allowing it to accelerate better. I remember using GPS app on my phone and timing them. They were pretty much an improvement to the older 321s. But 455s? Not different at all really.
