Lyrics:
Staring at the dark again, you left your silhouette upon my pillow - hey, hey
Right inside the night, I'm waiting for the light, seems like I'm in the middle - hey, hey
Workin for something that I can't touch and sometimes can't even believe in - woh, woh
Cradled by the hands of fate the faith that sometimes wraps around too tight - so tight
They call me free
But I call me a fool - hey, hey
They call me free
But I call me a fool - hey, hey
Well I look back at April, but she won't look back at me - Oh, no, no, no
So I pray in May for June to stay, but she just came to wash into the sea - away
And they call me free
But I call me a fool - hey, hey
They call me free
But I call me a fool - heyah, heyah, heyah, heyah, heyah, heyah, hey
Slipped down to Mexico, started messin with her yellow afro
Slipped down behind the sheets, started talkin bout Pistol Pete, well
Slipped down to the African, started talkin bout what she can do
Well here we are again, back where we started
Slipped down to the dark again, you left your silhouette on my pillow - yeah, yeah
Well I'm right inside the night, I'm waitin for the light
Seems like I'm in the, seems like I'm always in the middle
They call me free
They call me free
Free
But I call me a...

These guys are just bad ass. First heard anything from them (besides top forty stuff) was a Skiing video. Had to watch the credits to see who it was. Unbelievably versatile band.

I remember one of my first concerts was in Pittsburgh seeing Train had to have been 99 or 2000. Their opener was Jude (Jude Christodal) and I believe his opener was Jeremy Toback. I really went to see Jude, and his show was fantastic. Had never really heard Train before, but we stayed for them and the show blew me away. This song always stuck with me as my favorite Train song, and the live version I heard was way more rock and longer than this one, but still amazing! Always a fan of all 3 acts.

Saw them perform this song in Charlotte, NC when they just started out. It was in a club. We were at the bar and when they started playing it I grabbed my drink and went running into the room they were playing and went right up front. Good memory.

To be there during that era would've been incredible to hear/see. The club tour in 2004 would've been the closest thing to that era since those late 90's days. They still had three of the original members, but would go very deep into their catalog with B-sides, unreleases, etc from the first two albums. Most of the locations they would play multiple nights so each night was mixed up with completely different set lists with so many of the rare songs, covers, and even some raw new material. It was an incredible tour. Each show also had two set lists and the crew would hand out CDs from that nights first set after the show was over. Some fans on their Facebook pages, etc have them and will share them if you find the right person That same tour was also used to record their only live album, Alive at Last, that came out right after the tour. Awesome era, but still probably not nearly as awesome as seeing them in the true early days that you're taking about in the 90's..

Anybody else get some Allman Brothers Band vibes from the guitarist's tone? Maybe it's just me.

This was such an incredible treat to absorb. I remember the first time I heard this song, I couldn't get my hands on the album fast enough. Then every song on it captivated me nearly the same way. I was like oh these are the guys that do Meet Virginia.... Cool 👍 Little did I know they would be the only band that would ever come close to affecting me like Matchbox20 & Rob Thomas does in the way that each member possess their own individual genius but collaboratively the band is also genius. So damn many good songs rich with inconceivable depth. Many props Train ✌
