Train Fast As Lightning Flies Around RR Shoo-Fly, 2 Miles Long W/3 DPUs, Richwood Kentucky Trains
Ойын-сауық
5 Locomotives On A 2 Mile Long Train Books Over The Railroad Shoo-Fly In Richwood, Kentucky! The new main line is almost complete and the temporary track is seeing the last trains. Listen to how hard the 3 DPUs are working on the first Norfolk Southern train! It is literally 2 trains in one! The second train has a hard working DPU also. We see a northbound train with tank cars and covered hopper cars at the north end of the railroad construction zone. After a close look at the track we see the progress being made on the new road and the new railroad overpass that eliminates dangerous railroad crossings. Then we see a southbound train with DPU and horn blowing as it crosses a railroad crossing at the north end of the temporary track ( Shoo-fly ). All kinds of freight was on that train. They emptied the yard son! These tracks are pretty busy. I estimate a train about every hour or less during the day with less trains at night. I have stayed in motels with a view of the tracks and night time is a lot slower than day time. Best frequency for road freights is 160.950 and 452.9375 for End Of Train device or EOT.
How fast do you estimate the first train was going? How many cars are on these trains? Please leave a comment below. Filmed in 4K on June 6, 2022
Don't forget about Chessie and Norfie at the end of the video and please leave a comment!
Thanks for watching! If you have time, please watch another video of mine to help keep my channel going. Every view helps support my channel. Viewing time helps pay for gas, motels, rental cars etc. I have a list of places that I plan on filming so watch another video of mine if you have the time.

Wow awesome job 👍
Shoo-Fly pie and apple pan dowdy! STN probably stands for Steelton, Pa where they still do make rail.

Wow I'm shocked. I didn't think we made anything rail related in this country. The Steelers football team is really going to have to consider a name change someday.
ONCE AGAIN ANOTHER EXCELLENT VIDEO FROM "MR. SHO-FLY"

Your videos make one feel "at home": and Norfie + Chessie (et al) are the dessert.
Now that was a train!~A couple of miles of freight with a bunch of horsepower - very cool! And another train with a DPU. They emptied the yards as you say :)
I think the first train was a tanker train and a grain train tracked together to save on crews ? Sign of the times in this now uncertain world we have !! Still having fun and great videos from the shoo-fly -all courtesy of Jawtooth !! Regards

Some good shoo fly action. Thanks for sharing!
Great job they almost completed so much safer for everyone 👏...enjoy weekend JT....what a grunt by dpu s 😀
That seems like a hot line. I suppose they will need to shut it down for a day or two just to re-connect the new section. Sure getting close to that day!
@beeble2003

Shouldn't take that long. In the UK, they'd do the reconnection overnight and the trains the next day would be going straight through. The only reason to take longer would be if they don't care about having the line out of action.
Great catch’s jaw and third and like the new update I can’t wait for it to be finished

I would say "The Fly" has less that 2 weeks left. Wondering if they will connect the road back that went over the siding to that customer. Excellent video as usual. Appreciate your hard work and dedication to giving us updates. With gas prices so high and locations so far, you might have to trade your truck in for a motorcycle with a side car for the wife and dog. 😁😁😁

Great excellent video, mr Jaw Tooth. Thanks for the update about the shoo-fly. But much wind is blowing a dust devil. See in the beginning of this video. When the tankrailcars/grainrailcars passing you see the dustdevil stronger. Nice to see. The shoo-fly is ready for use through NS about two weeks i guess. Next video over the shoo-fly when he is ready? Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands.
Love seeing such length of the train.

That first train was a definite monster tanker/grain combo with 3 DPUs awesome, and absolutely bookin. The other train was just as long but one DPU, boy they are emptying the yards on these trains, they are getting bigger every day. Looks like the shoo-fly won’t be around for long. That looks really cool leaning into the curve with the dust flying. That train was clearly two trains put together; half tank cars and half covered hoppers
Great railfan video. Love the fast NS tank/grain big train on the Soo Fly. Also loved the local commentary, rail info (got to research “STN), and the construction tour. Great NS train #2 with 2 lead units and a single DPU. Your “Emptying the yard” comment was right on. Thank you for your patience to capture the second train.

The wind raises a lot of dust in the area where the new track begins, added to that linked to the passage of the high-speed train. It may well be the wind that precedes the storm if we observe the large cauliflower-shaped clouds in the sky. Beautiful pictures for sure!

Thank you very much! yes, Indiana Railroad has some trains with only one person. Other lines are going that way also
Thanks for the video.
Watching a KZread with your transportation board where a yard master was stating that they maybe saving on crews, but it’s taking three times as long when the train gets to a yard, as they have to split the consist over three tracks just to fit the yard. Following trains have to wait causing the crew to run out of hours, also reducing availability of locos.
@2themoon863
2 жыл бұрын
and thst is because the yard tracks aren't as long as the trains are?
@2themoon863
2 жыл бұрын
You qoukd think given the longer trains we are seeing--two to three miles even with distributed power-that adding a caboose with a rear conductor might make some sense. Why on earth does a rail company have to make a conductor go back 1-2 miles, set a switch or something, then force them to either walk or catch a ride back to the front of the train…where a rear conductor working out of a caboose could do that and seemingly save time, by not having to do 1-2 miles to a switch and back?
IIRC, the new bridge they built has space for a siding. I wonder if they will build a siding there in the future. I doubt it, since every train you’ve shown us here is VERY long, but it’s interesting to think about. Great video, as always.
@JawTooth

That would be cool! Maybe someday they could double track the main a little way. They use to have a siding right there but they relocated it to the south by a quarter mile

Jt's got a groupie! Love the shoo-fly. But I'm not seeing the flies unless it's the flying trains. I would think the DPUs push against the front, maybe 5-10%, of the train which would make them work harder.

Of course not, because it's working, shoo-ing away the flies.
Quite possible that within a month this will be the straight as an arrow. Manyof the supplies that were up there are now installed and lots of construction equipment removed. That first train had an odd mix of tank cars but the bulk appeared to be empty ethanol cars while the covered hoppers had numerous ADM marks. Both are probably bound for the Decatur IL area and hence travel together. The shoo fly with ice & snow than numbing cold. Recently pouring rain and then the winds. JT conquers it all!0
