The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is a role-playing video game developed by Nihon Falcom. Also known as Trails in the Sky First Chapter, the game is the first in a trilogy, which also includes Trails in the Sky SC and Trails in the Sky the 3rd.
Upon the Orbal Revolution, people's lives have become significantly more productive from the mechanical gadget unit called the Orbment, and the mysterious energy it generates. From onward, the everyday lives of people have transcended beyond normal progress from the construction of Orbalships and other innovations that follow. But great prosperity can lead to new conflicts, whereas many nations have other uses for the Orbment by engineering them for weapons development.
In the proud and independent Liberl Kingdom, the cheerful siblings Estelle Bright and Joshua Bright left their hometown to become official Bracers, individual combat specialists of investigation skills who help those around with various problems. What challenges awaits the two upon their adventures, as the feelings of those around unfold a new generation.
Trails in the Sky was first released in Japan for Microsoft Windows in 2004, and later ported to the PlayStation Portable in 2006. North American video game publisher XSeed Games acquired the rights from Falcom, but did not release it until 2011 due to the game's large amount of text necessary to translate and localize. An high-definition port to the PlayStation 3 was released in Japan in 2012 as part of Sony's PSP Remaster line of games, while a remaster for the PlayStation Vita was released in 2015; both Japanese-only releases.
In Trails in the Sky, the player controls a cast of characters, embarking on a number of quests to progress the story. There are two different type of maps when navigating in the overworld of the game: field maps and town maps. In field maps, enemies roam around and a battle ensues if the player comes in contact with one. In town maps, the player can visit various shops to purchase items, replenish health at an inn and, for the major cities, take on and report quests to the local guild. In addition, the player can interact with numerous non-playable characters (NPCs) in the game; a unique aspect in Trails in the Sky is that each NPC's dialogue changes as the game advances, allowing the player to follow along sidestories that accompany the NPCs throughout the game.
Combat in Trails in the Sky takes place on a grid and is turn-based. The character's turn order is determined by a tracker called the AT Bar. During the character's turn, the player can move or make an attack. In addition to the normal attack, each character also have three other methods available for action: Arts, Crafts, and S-Crafts. Arts are magic spells that characters can use to attack opponents or support teammates but must take an additional turn to cast. Crafts are character-specific abilities that are similar to Arts but can be used in the same turn; however, they utilize a special gauge called "Craft Points" (CP) for the cost to perform. S-Crafts are powered-up Crafts that can be performed once a character has over 100CP but completely depletes the CP gauge upon using it. Further extending S-Crafts are S-Breaks which allows characters to immediately perform an S-Craft regardless of when their turn order is.
An additional component in combat is AT Bonuses which grant bonus effects at certain turns throughout the battle, visible on the AT Bar.
If the player loses a battle, the game is over. The player is then allowed to continuously retry the battle and subsequently lower the difficulty of the battle for each retry; should the player not want the difficulty to be lowered, they can turn it off in the settings menu.

I have over 600 hours in Trails in the Sky trilogy... And it easily goes over 1000 hours including first two cold steel games. I honestly feel like I know more about life of NPCs in this game than some of my family members... Then again, NPCs in trails series can be really interesting.

I have over 1000 hours in Sky trilogy, 554h in 1st 351h in 2nd and 202h in 3rd, and I am finishing my first playthrough in 3rd , I have first Cold Steel game on 189h and second on 201h. Honstly liked first two sky games best, the only thing I didnt like was battle song Sophisticated fight ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/pJyhysOfaNu6ccY.html ), it started to annoy me during second playthrough of Sky FC.
I remember watching your what is falcom video back in 2021 and now on 2023 I'm playing trails for the first time and loving it
I haven't played the game in a while, but the Whereabouts of Light theme still hits me right in the chest whenever I hear it.
Just wanted to say I greatly appreciate the effort you put into the VA in your playthrough (s). It reminds me of when I used to VA all of my JRPGs before my voice got wrecked, now I just sound like somebody gargling with gravel lol.

I’ve never had the time to sit down and enjoy trails in the sky. I played and completed cold steel 1 and 2 on a whim and loved them to bits and really want to play sky. Thanks for the video :)

When I reach Cold Steel 4 (Currently I'm on the first chapter of Ao no Kiseki) I'm planning to let's play the entire franchise so that I can translate the dialogue to spanish and bring this wonderful saga to more people who maybe can't read english. Your videos made the final push for me to get into this series, so thank you so much!

Thank you for uploading this. As somebody who hasn't had the opportunity to play through these games before it's nice being able to watch this whenever I can. Especially since I played through CS 1 and 2 and had no idea these games even existed until I saw one of your other videos

This has left a good impression on me, I came from a Trails of Cold steel let’s play and when I found out it wasn’t the first in the Trails series I decided too go back and watch the entire series through

Dude! I played CS1,2,3 and a little confused about some characters and im planning to play the other trails game but don't have the time to do it. And i saw this video. Tnx dude! For this. I can finally play CS4 afther this.

Keep up the hard work! I'll soon do a Nightmare playthrough myself once I get a few other videos finished. Oh hey, I wanted to ask. Are you planning on doing a playthrough for Ao no Kiseki and Zero no Kiseki? They both currently have good English patches available, so I was curious if you would play through those series. ---------------- I'll continue trying to support you, because you have an awesome channel. Haven't seen many others who have as much devotion for this series as you. That's all I have to ask/say Scott. Oh, one more thing. Loving that Cassius voice.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) I was torn between that or a Thanos "Fine, I'll do it myself" meme :P (not to discredit everyone else's work on Ao, of course, this is just funny to me in context)
I had a different reaction from the boy if you go fast through the text (unintentional as I forgot to save first time I played and wanted to go fast through the intro), I was completely stunned by the level of details, if this is predictive of what the game holds, I believe this game will exceed all my expectations.

I'm so conflicted if I wanna actually finish this game or watch this! I'm not lazy, just always lose my saves for whatever reason everytime and I don't know if I can make it through the first 2 chapters again. 😭

Just a question on the difference between the PC version and the PSP version. I’ve played the PSP version and on some of the equip descriptions as well as in the book “The 100 Day War”, the company was called “Reinhold” and I know from playing Cold Steel, that it should be “Reinford”. My question is, in the PC version, is it still called Reinhold, or was that corrected to Reinford?

Hey umm... since I'm already here, perhaps someone could help me with something.... I'm going nuts trying to find translations for a few things in trails from zero. I'm looking for the dialogue for the cooking, the battle dialogue, and Lloyd's fishing dialogue. I looked in trails in the database but couldn't find the sections mentioned above. I just want to know like, what Randy say when he cooks something (I'm going to butcher the spelling here) but the one I'm looking for in particular sounds like "chioi choi" And what Tio says when she uses her analyze craft. Or when combat starts and everything the group is saying. I'm so sorry for writing so much, I would have done this on a more appropriate platform but I don't really know much about discords and I have never made a twitter account. If anybody can help me find this I would be eternally grateful, and you would be helping a full fledged dedicated Trails fanboy.

Hey I’m not sure if you’re interested in knowing anymore, and I can’t really help you out, however I did want to let you know that they officially released the game in English so if you’re still interested in the series I would consider getting that
My favorite video-game (maybe fictional, period) world to date! In terms of everything non-graphics, it makes just about every other RPG look downright lazy. I'm so in the habit of talking to every NPC multiple times that when characters in other games just say the same thing, I feel disappointed. Falcom set the bar too high. Is your first playthrough still available to view, by the way? Would love to see your blind reactions.

Unfortunately not, but it wasn't blind anyway. I'd been through FC once before but hadn't completed all of the arc by then.

I understand when you host a playthrough you're going to read all the text dialog, but unless you're like a near professional old bbc voice acting children storyteller, I think its best to just speak all dialogue in the same tone. I know the intentions are in the right place, but ...

He was a developer Nihon Falcom in Japan? so he was one of what I'm guessing was very few north American devs there? Cuz I've seen a lot of interviews and docs of falcon both in thw actual office and had never seen any Caucasians, though they def wouldn't have been very recent I don't think, so is he a professional voice actor, was just wondering cuz you had mentioned he was a professional in response to my comment about the dialog but then said he was a developer

He’s credited in a few of the games and they patched a few condolences in them. He is my brother in law and loved the series very much.
