Those 5 people were lost simply due to a delusional man's ego. He thought his self built sub was invincible, just like the builders of the Titanic. Nobody was brave enough to step up and stop him because the money was more important than the safety. RIP everyone on that sub, I hope they didn't suffer and I hope this is a wake up call for better upheld standards when it comes to ocean exploration.

Don't agree. It was mostly because of his ego. And people did stand up to him about it, he refused to listen because he was arrogant. He was told by many people his sub wasn't safe. You should watch a few more documentaries on it.

Yes and no. I always think that the richest people are also the cheapest people always looking for ways to cheapen the experience. The people who died had more than enough money to do a proper dive but instead went the cheapo route of this tour company promoting a unproven and highly criticized craft. They could have very easily bankrolled a expedition just like what James Cameron did who is no where as rich as these dudes who passed.

I think the problem is that they all had money, and it was not that expensive in relative terms for them. So I guess they figure why not if they get to see the titanic which is something not a lot of people get to see. I also feel like research material is not readily available for them to make a wise choice so I think they went down on a unproven craft that's criticized by a lot in that community. Perhaps the people on the craft were aware of the criticism and/or the fact they are in a experimental craft that's unproven for frequent diving. I think there needs to be better vetting of crafts, especially for tourism such as this. It's not just limited to these things too like those duck boat tours but people don't realize the thing is potentially very deadly due to how to roof doesn't detach and yes, it happened a while ago where a lot of people unfortunately passed on an unproven design.

Stockholm Rush was in a rush to do stuff and got people killed, he should have just went alone and used stronger material for the tin can. KZread has done vastly better reporting on this. Many engineers with varied expertise have done excellent jobs explaining it from different points of view with each one adding knowledge. There were at least a dozen points of failure on that craft and the implosion could have been caused by any combination of them or all. Disasters like this are usually years in the making and this one is no different

Naturally, they just had to show DiCaprio and Winslet from the 'big' movie... and then, as if he needed any more publicity, here comes renowned 'expert' James Cameron, to share his reliable input. The submersible imploded due to negligent, boastful attitudes and faulty materials used in its construction. And five human beings perished horribly due to Stockton Rush's complacent pride. If it was just the sub owner who had died most people i think would have looked at it like that. Bringing people who dont know how dangerous and risky the craft is, that is what made this such a big story. Especially since one of the passengers was still a teenager.

@@fintan9218 I do see your point. However each one made the choice to go themselves. Each one knew the risk of death was high doing something like that. Not a surprise the titanic is 12,500 feet down and under extreme pressure. Each one signed a waiver talking about the possible risks. Up to and including death. Each one had 100% control over if they would be on that experimental sub. Each one had 100% control over what they knew about that sub and how it was built. * I was surprised more cries to hold the mother responsible for the kid going did not happen.

@@elmosweed4985 not really the availability is not apparent as there aren’t any source of where you could get reliable info. The craft was billed as safe by the owner and he did dive a few times before so many would assume it is safe and the risk of death was there but small. There are several universities and labs that seem to criticize his material choices and I don’t think the vessel was certified by any large creditable agency. But no where it says that and you had to really dig into it as there aren’t any public information that says this craft failed something because of questionable material and they weren’t sure how many times it could dive before structural problems occur and what sort of problems as they didn’t have enough test data. Point is the only person who knew all this was the owner and the owner as far as I can tell never disclosed that and fired anyone who brought up safety concerns.
