Trail Running Time Trial || 3 Miles Uphill Running
I have been doing a lot of incline running on the treadmill, and I love trail running, so it just made sense to do a hard uphill trail effort. This one put me straight into the pain cave. It was so hard, but I wanted this to be an all out effort so that's good! This workout was on West Side Road in Issaquah, WA. Thank you to everyone on instagram who gave me advice about good trails near me!

What I find crazy is you do a run before your run, for me 2 miles would be my run for the day, just proves how strong and incredible you are.

yeah I realize that's definitely a weird thing to most people, but I really like shaking things out the morning of a hard effort.
I've never heard anyone say she/he is feeling excited about running three miles uphill! You continue to amaze me, Allie O. And love to see how smart you are with your activation and training. You are my hero! That "time trial" run uphill looked incredibly difficult. Your face at the end says it all. "Already want to do it again!" What a champn and Ari is also a champ for accompanying you despite his reserve.

Yes Allie! This video was awesome and so was the TT, although brutal! But very interesting as a fan of yours! I loved the pre-run activation and drills. I’d love to see more of those so I can incorporate them into my own routine. I’m excited for what’s to come for you too! I’m intrigued by your training, your increasing fitness, the brutal TT, and hoping for a race one day :))
I'd love to see your pre-run stretches, drills, and cool down core exercises. Another fun video!!

Great video Allie! I would love to see a video where you show the drills/warmup you do prior to a 5K or steeple chase race. I always wonder how you guys get warmed up for the huge efforts! Keep on improving, you are looking great!
I would love to see your drills. I had drills I did in college and need to do the again but thought I should change them up. Seeing yours will help me reset my drills.
Much more of a steep grade than I imagines. Well done!!!

That's a serious workout, for which I was impressed with your 6 flat for 200 ft. of elevation gain. That was fast, especially for making it up the 11% grade! I think you are getting very strong, and this could be a year where, if it is what you desire, you well may be able to set some PR's. Remember, I have you down for 31:30 in the 10k! If you were ever around Las Vegas, The Bristlecone trail starts at 8700 ft. in Lee Canyon, and goes up to 9400 ft. in 3.3 miles. With the elevation and uphill, a mile takes about 50% longer than normal. If you you were running a 5k around 5 min pace, you might be 7:30 on that trail which is staggering for anybody who has ever run that trail. If you want some amazing hill running, come to Las Vegas and do the Red Rock loop....12.5 miles or so, where it is seemingly better from the back to the front. The starting elevation is about 3600 feet, and there is about a 1200 ft. elevation gain over 7.8 miles, then....fly downhill the rest of the way. Running up and down those hills and for longer distance really makes one strong, and the scenery is breathtaking, as that loop is surrounded by mountains with similar colors that you would see in Sedona, with amazing panoramic views that you can see some of the Vegas Strip. Of course for sheer brutality of a hill run, you are the absolute Queen of Mt. Marathon! Allie O....it is great to see your videos in which I you are running like a champion. Seeing you run motivates me to amp it up a bit....no slacking here, I ran and did spin class today. Lets see if I can avoid the cookies and creme Cliff protein bars for kids that are in my pantry, which are not good for losing weight and getting faster! Have a great day.
Great video!
Another inspiring video 🙂. I need to try that hill workout. I was going to say how healthy it was going with the salad 🥗 instead of the burrito 🌯 but then I got to the end. 😅

Hi Allie, I would really like to see an overview of one week of training-how you structure each day, how you handle recovery, and so on. I’m an evening person, too-it really sucks that everything starts at 8 am. Thumbs up on the Chemex-only the best coffee maker ever. Plus, it has a large capacity which is great when you need that second cup, or third, or . . .

In Hungary we have a race where we go from 300m to 1000m in a 12K run. It is all uphill but has one short downhill section, I kinda wish it wasn't there because it is so hard to go uphill again after that.
The putting green is for hang gliders to run off. If that’s the place I’m thinking of.

I am glad the see that you have entered the National Cross Country Championship at Richmond. I see you could potentially win $4000 from USATF. I am entered in the Men's 60 plus Masters race at 11:30 but I will be there cheering for you in the Women's Open in the afternoon. Don't hold your breath waiting for the prize money, I am still waiting for my money from the 5K X-C last October. And good luck parking! ---------------------Robert Qualls
Allie, tough workout. When I predicted your time I did not know the grade was that steep. I have had that metallic taste in my mouth also after a hard uphill session and I never knew what it was. It is actually the red blood cell leakage in parts of the lungs responsible for air and gas exchange. Best regards....

I've been stuck indoors running on treadmills this winter. Any suggestions for incline sessions on treadmills? And how do you manage doing reps on treadmills -- do you leave it running and jump off between reps?
@allie_ostrander
Жыл бұрын
I do 4% incline for threshold and 8-10% for vo2max intervals. My advice is to grab the handles when the rep is over and keep holding on while you turn the speed down. I also start the rep once the treadmill is up to speed, not while it’s speeding up 😉
