    I use same exact set up for 5 yrs except I buried the ammo box wrapped up in small garbage bag a ft below ground behind tree. I don’t use Solar panels just swap out battery every 2 months in UP of Mich. I use foam insulation inside box so battery’s last longer in Winter!

    @@TripleRwoods Half inch foam rubber insulation makes the long 12V 7amphr last 2 months taking 75-100 pics a day on feeder! With Snow about 2’ deep an zero Temps we Burris in ground helps. Wrap in garbage bag so box isn’t full of Sand or dirt! We have 3 on private ground that have a 5 gallon bucket with lid an put batteries in insulated soft side coolers!

    good info and set up. only thing that i would change, id get some strain relief connectors so you can keep the extra cable in the box so its adjustable and dont have to re-silicon the hole back if you need to extend the cable

    Are you running these is direct sun or are they in the woods and shaded? I’d really like to add solar to my camera but the spot doesn’t get direct sunlight until real late in the day.

    Most of mine are in the woods. Obviously works best if you can catch more sunlight but it works great in the woods too.

    Is it possible that the solar panel will overcharge the battery ?

    I'm wanting to build some of these but hadnt planned on using a solar panel to charge the battery. I dont use cellular cameras but have mine set to video. I use several sets of 8 batteries per year so I was hoping one of rhese batteries would last most of a year without charging. Thoughts?

    If your just using them in a standard trail camera then I would imagine it would last all year. I run about 35 cheap tasco cams on video and they last a long time. On a 12 v I bet they last forever. Whatever camera you use you might wanna do some research on what plug is required. Good luck.

    Good evening, I have watched your video several times and I want to do the same with those batteries. I wanted to ask you something: how long do those batteries last when charged with that solar panel? Thank you and blessings.

    I’ve got some that have been out since June and still say 100%. It really depends on your settings and how many pic/video it takes. If it’s on a feeder you might have to change it after 6months or so when there isn’t much sun during the winter months. But most of mine will stay out all year until I take them down and never need to be taken down and charged.

    What type of batteries do you use in the camera itself? Regular or rechargeable? Do I need to use batteries in camera?

    Yes use batteries in your camera. They are a backup if Solar ever goes dead. I’ve started switching to the Tactacam lipo pack. They are awesome. Last a long time and I recharge them and swap them out. I’m getting a couple months out of each lipo pack. If I use AA batteries I use cheap amazon batteries.

    What are you using so you do not over charge? Thanks.

    The small Wild game solar panels would have that included in them I would assume. It is just a trickle charge so it would take a lot to overcharge. I’ve had no issues. Have 8 out right now.

    Do you know how to convert a camera that doesn't have a plug for external power? Also, do you NOT need any sort of voltage regulator so that the solar panel isn't overcharging the battery?

  • @TripleRwoods

    @TripleRwoods

    The solar panel already has a voltage regulator installed. All reveal cams should have a port under the battery pack.

    I don't have Reveal cams. I have various cams that don't have a port. Wasn't sure if you knew how to convert like that or not. There aren't many videos out there on it.
