Traditional Scottish Tablet Recipe & Cook With Me! :)
Hey guys :) Today I'm making traditional Scottish tablet!
Welcome back to What’s for tea….If this is your first time stopping by…Hello and welcome…. I hope you’re all having a wonderful day!
Today I’m making Traditional Scottish Tablet.
The only thing I can compare this to would be fudge but unlike fudge it’s not chewy and quite crumbly.
Kids love this and it’s extremely sweet! But you would usually just have wee chunk and not handfuls of the stuff….or you’d be absolutely vibrating!
So this is what you’re going to need if you want to give it a go….

Oh my this stuff was my favorite as a child. My grandparents spent most of their retirement in Scotland and they’d bring back a bar for me and my siblings every time. I’d take it to my room and try to savor each piece because it was the only treat I ever got but probably covered my entire sugar allowance for the year.
Loving "What's for Tea" have been exiled in West Yorkshire for last 9yrs!! Have made lorne sausage, millionaire's shortbread, shortbread and tomorrow am making tablet,(my wee granddaughter will be swinging fae the lampshade😂) Loving the way you explain each step of the recipe, thank you and you have got this 63yr old back into baking and enjoying it👍💕
I grew up on this stuff in Paisley...tablet was my all time fav...mom n dad use to make it on Sundays for us ...im amazed that i have all my teeth and not a diabetic!
As a pal of mine said "Only could the Scots invent something sweeter than sugar" :)
The first time I was served tablet in Scotland I had no idea what that wee cube was. Coming from Canada I thought it was a raw sugar cube served with the coffee. But then I saw the sugar pot and was even more confused. Well when I took a wee nibble I was so surprised at the lovely sugary graininess of it. If you ever head up to Fife, down in the harbour in Crail is a wonderful tea shop set in a very old stone cottage. On a nice day you can sit in the courtyard in the back and look over the sea and the chickens. A chicken laid a blue egg right in front of me!
OMG! I am a great lover of Scottish tablet and I've had none since my return to America. Now I can make my own woot woot!! :-) I would describe Scottish tablet as more like a thin sugar cube held together with butter and vanilla. It is sold like a candy bar but I have to be careful because if I make this I am inclined not to be too disciplined with it.
I used to make this all the time for the bairns when they were small. One of them just asked me to make it and i couldnt remember it clearly so Thank you and im going to make it today
I used to love when my great aunt would visit us in Canada from Scotland and bring some tablet and Edinburgh rock. So good. I got a recipe from my English father in law’s Scottish mother. She called it fudge but I know it’s tablet. I didn’t know I could beat it with my stand mixer, but I had my nephew do it which saved my tired arms.
This is what I miss so much about my dad, a through and through Scotsman. Also Cullen Skink, although he never called it that. Me I am English although I consider myself half Scottish. I don't like porridge though, my dad made me eat it with salt so even the smell makes me sick now. Sigh even as a 51 year old man, I still miss him.
I love tablet and have very fond memories of buying it on holidays in Scotland as a young girl.
I absolutely love Scottish Tablet. I've had traditional and malt whiskey...I can eat the entire tin if I let myself...Delicious
You use your mum's method, I use my gran's. It doesn't matter it tastes delicious anyway. I love the fact that you don't use a thermometer and look for the craters forming. I do the same. I love your recipes and calm style of explaining everything.
Thanks for the video! I cannot wait to try this recipe! I love Scottish tablet!
Had this on my 2nd trip to Scotland and LOVED it!
I love your tablet recipe, your sponge cake recipe and your steak pie recipe. You are very talented at what you do! Thanks so much for sharing these recipes, it's a great taste of home! I will be checking out all of your other recipes.
scottish tablet was a favourite of mine when visiting family in Dunfermline and my great aunt always got a large amount just for me. i'm very proud to be the granddaughter of a scotsman
I'm Scottish and was brought up on wonderful home cooked food. My mum made tablet all the time and there was no £200 mixer! I make it myself without a mixer too and it's delicious!
Wow!
