Must one sit in the cross legged pose for one? I find if i do that too long, my legs fall asleep and i have heard these are usually 4 hours long. This is a serious question as i would one day like to attend one of these tea ceremonies

John Xaler Have you felt ASMR? You can feel it with the sounds of deliberate movement and relaxing sounds. Doesn't matter what ASMR is you can feel the sensation in bits of the video.

It's stronger than ASMR. It involves a ritual with deep cultural and spiritual mean

I once had such an experience and I can say, it is not only because of the fantastic and different taste of the tea - it is the whole ceremony that intends to take you away from anything else going on around you. think of it, when do you really take your tea or coffee and enjoy every minute of making it plus enjoying the taste in silence and focus? really love it!

Serving beer like this would solve quite a few alcohol problems :-)

Actually I would agree, if it was treated with more love of the ceremony and ritual of pouring the drink, sipping slow to take in the flavor with deep analysis etc, rather than the love of the quantity and excess feeling, I imagine it would. Especially with harder liquors.

Why there is two water container? Because one is cold water on your left hand side. On the right hand side the the hot water. The cold water is for cool down the hot water temperature

So glad that Im not the only one who found that scene in Samurai Jack to be so calming and theraputic, that I had to watch it irl. They did a fantastic job recreating the process

If you decompose each gesture, if every move has a meaning, a purpose, then every action is dense in time and quality. Basically everything you undertake is quality. It lower your anger, your deception, your fear. It's a daily discipline, you don't rush for greed or your own pleasure, because in the hard work of processing life with this philosophy, you won't need anything else than the very essential. Now look at the exact opposite : rich and famous people. They seem to have reach for "everything a man could need" in our society. But how many end up drug addict ? How many of them are just looking back for the essentials ? :)

This made me so relaxed! Japanese people sure know how to enjoy tea and drain away all panic and stress at the same time. :)

The hand movements on the whisk and on the red cloth give me a sensation that is so pleasing and endorphin releasing. Very strange how relaxing this is to watch. Thank you for the upload.

Beautiful. After reading descriptions of Japanese Tea Ceremony in fiction and nonfiction, this illuminates it in my mind. I'm more of a fan of Victorian Tea Time myself, but I definitely wish to view the Japanese verison in person in the future.

I have heard the same thing about getting what you pay for with matcha (although I've never bought any). Personally, I have experienced the same with Argentine Yerba (their kind of tea leaves). You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to that product.

Yerba mate is made from leaves of the Ilex paraguariensis, or Paraguay holly. Definitely worth the price, especially when consumed the traditional South American way. The same can be said of Yaupon tea, made from the leaves of the Ilex vomitoria, or American Yaupon holly. (Don't be fooled by the scientific name; it doesn't induce vomiting at all.) Yaupon is almost identical to yerba mate, but it's slightly sweeter in taste.

If you want matcha for drinking only, look for ceremonial grade matcha. Culinary grade can provide an OK matcha for drinking, but it's made more for use as a food ingredient and is not as flavorful as the ceremonial grade stuff when consumed directly.

I wonder if there is a general brand of matcha that is used in most traditional tea ceremonies. I've tried a few different brands and have noticed that you definitely get what you paid for.

So cool, but also so absolutely formal, that definetly would not work very well here in Brazil, formality is somenthing that we dont like that much, but, still a very stunning and a very cool ceremony!

Almost as relaxing as Samurai Jack making tea.

it takes years to do it this well, maybe a short time to learn the elements, but years to master it to the point you can do it with an empty mind or reach a zen like state, and do it with out wasted motion, and even longer a whole life in fact to the other arts like flower arranging and calligraphy and so on that go along with this type of tea service, not to mention the tea is usually matcha which is very high grade tea and shaded for 5 weeks to bring down the bitterness and astringency or rather thats what it does, it is then ground steams and all and it is consumed like this in many cases, but the lesser grades of matcha are used in cooking for deserts and latte art for example.

Is anyone else watching this just to see how accurately it was done in episode 7 of Samurai Jack (season 5)?

Such a beautiful ceremony. Just had matcha for the first time 2 weeks ago at Starbucks and fell in love. (In SW Arizona US 🇺🇸) I know not the best first taste, however I knew of the ceremony and always loved the tradition. Ordered my first set and made my first cup today. Lovely but I am still perfecting the frothing with the Chasen. This video has helped so thank you for the video and also for such a beautiful relaxing video.

The tea master had never held a sword in his life, so he went to a sword saint to teach him something that might save his life. The sword saint asked the tea master to perform the tea ceremony. When he had finished, the sword saint said, "Go to your duel knowing you are going to die. But accept your death with the same mindset that you just performed the tea ceremony with." The tea master showed up to the duel knowing he was going to die. It's said that the samurai took one look into his eyes and turned around and walked away.
