Okay but can we take a moment to talk about how great this guy’s English is? Consider his apparent age and the fact that most Japanese people are far better at reading and writing English than they are at speaking it, and this video becomes even more impressive.

1:45 ahhh, the rare "pointing ASMR" felt even with no sound.
@slaveNo-4028

I seriously wonder about all this ASMR stuff. Do you really, actually FEEL something when you hear sounds like that? It's a shame not everyone can experience that, I wonder what that feels like.
@iamzafkiel
3 жыл бұрын
@@slaveNo-4028 It's not the sound, it's the motion in proximity. I can mute the system and feel the tingles right away. It's so rare that in decades of internet, I've found 5, 6 videos with it. It's not the same sensation, but try to aproximate something to your fave with the eyes close, there is a strange sesation of proximity, far from a pleasant tingle, but there is a hint there.
@slaveNo-4028
3 жыл бұрын
@@iamzafkiel hmm I've tried it, but I don't really know if I am doing it right or know exactly what you mean. (Like, when approximating something to my face, esp. with eyes closed all I notice is the "sound of the air" changing. And with ASMR in general I unfortunately never got any sensations either) It's very interesting though, thanks for explaining. People who can feel these things must have really finetuned senses I imagine, no? Maybe one can "train" it, or try it in a very relaxed state, or maybe some people just can't feel it at all, I fear.
@iamzafkiel

@@slaveNo-4028 I have read about some shaman pratices years ago and the book mentioned some kind of trances that they induce themselves with the help of sounds like drum beatings, beads etc. The movement and proximity ASMR is indeed a rare one, but there are many people who feels tingles with soft touchings too, not to mention fish in aquariums etc. The more, the merrier, after all :D
Watching this doesn't just make me relax it makes me feel very happy and warm on the inside. I'm lay in bed smiling to this
2:38 Is the best part imo. Creaky wood as he pushes down using his finger and rocks back and forth. You got the satisfying visual of the emboss happening.The audible "snap" of the paper when he lifts it off the block. *Chefs kiss*

A master of his artwork. This is both soothing and beautiful!
My all time favorite. Not only insanely calming and peaceful, but also very interesting.
Do we know if he has to re-prep the board after each print or if the board lasts for a few prints? Suffice to say, this is truly an art-form from a different era and it's fascinating to see it. I have great admiration for the Japanese who ensure individuals are trained in these ancestral arts and the knowledge is passed down for future generations and is never lost--and, yah, it's extremely relaxing. too!

I am so grateful for this man and the video. His commitment and sincerity + humble attitude is super humbling and inspiring. I was so deeply moved and I hope he reads my comments and suggestion to open a school / start a business to teach this printing technique and keep alive this tradition. This guy’s attitude should be an example for young people all over the world. P.S. I have personally been working on myself to become this kind of person by practicing Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism and by being a member of Soka Gakkai International. Great video and great man! I’ve taken a workshop at Penland with Shinohara sensei, and Dean Fletcher and engiefox are correct: he is lubricating the barren slightly with animperceptible amount of oil from his face.

@SMSCOOBY71

I was under the impression it was to discharge any static from the barren so when it was placed on the paper it doesn't lift the paper. Try for yourself and place a piece of A4 flat on a table, then put your hand down over it until your practically touching it and the paper will lift, then do it again but grab a metal piece of cutlery right beforehand and the paper won't lift because you'll have discharged the static. I can't imagine even an "imperceptible" amount of oil would be tolerated with that type of parchment paper.
Superb. Really masterful. Very pleasant to watch something so peaceful in what is now mostly such a busy world.
I love this guy! He is the best
I don't know what the heck this man is doing, and I don't care. fJust want him to keep on doing it. Bring on Japanese Printmaking parts 3-20.
For some time now; decades, in fact, I have experienced some amazing unintentional ASMR, but I told nobody because I was scared that it might mean there's something wrong with me medically. Also, I literally had no idea what to call the tingles in question. This one time, I panicked because I smelled burnt hair and/or bread at the same time on top of getting the tingles. I bet some of you have similar origins. I hope.
That was great. Thanks.
*Very Chill*
I couldn't understand why he was putting the glue on. But afterwards it was a beautiful result. I always amazes me the things people think up. Each step was perfected by someone who had a lot of patience.

Anyone know why he rubs the brush thing against his face when hes rubbing the paper over the block?

Honorable Oscar Travis, I’m positive that Kharn526 was not implying your assumption of Master Keiji’s “ habit “ with his baren ... was in anyway an attempt to throw shade in your direction. I personally, have been scouring the comments for more understanding of what that “ gesture” denoted? We are privileged to have many thousands of years of guarded history laid bare to our eager minds and senses....... we thank humble ones as Kharns526 for their enlightenment, and wish all a peaceful spirit attained through this most rare blessed observation. By the way..... your attention to detail is ..... masterful.
