On the morning of my first full day in Dominica, I headed out on a fun and diverse Dominican breakfast food tour of Portsmouth!
U&H LOCAL KITCHEN: After watching the cook, Ursula, work in the kitchen, we tried her saltfish (codfish) with salad and roasted breadfruit. The saltfish was tender and flavorful, while the roasted breadfruit was starchy and had a bit of sweetness. We also enjoyed a passionfruit, pineapple, and soursop smoothie, which had a tropical feel and helped wake me up!
BAKE AND CHEESE: Our driver Bongo stopped at a local convenience store for a bake and cheese, which is crispy on the outside but fluffy, doughy, and cheese on the inside. It smells a lot like a Brazilian pao de queijo!
LOCAL MARKET: We briefly stopped at a local market and saw some vendors selling produce and honey. The market was pretty quiet at the moment, but it becomes very lively on Saturdays, which is Market Day. Past it is a fish market and a pier overlooking the Caribbean.
GREEN LIGHT RESTAURANT AND BAR: Here, I got a saltfish bake, which had a crispy exterior and a soft, doughy interior. The salty, briny saltfish was perfect. Adding hot sauce gave it a kick-it was definitely spicy!
CONVENIENCE STORE: Inside, I met a Guyanese man who gave me a hat before we ended our tour!

Well "roast" breadfruit, stewed salt fish (most times cod) or smoked herring and some cucumber salad with homemade vinegrette and a drink of cocoa tea is the ultimate Dominican breakfast but this salad works as well. I'm glad you enjoyed Dominica. I enjoyed the content especially since it featured my home town. Do come again and bring your friends.
It seems Dominican women aren't ashamed to be seen on the streets with natural hair. Kudos to those ladies. The breakfast looks really yummy.

I am so proud to be a Dominican. We are a loving, kind and giving people.
Dominica and Grenada 🇬🇩 looks alike, we eat the same fruits and vegetables.
Breakfast food all looked delicious. So similar to Trinidad. The island looks so laid back and the locals seem extremely friendly. David you rocked that push up challenge. You and Nath looked very islandish...in your hats and am sure it help with the midday island sun. Safe travels.

I am Guyanese and I don’t like breadfruit no matter how it’s prepared but my family love it. The elders. Mum, aunts etc. You’ve experienced so many foods in your travels worldwide I would never eat. But enjoy watching you and got me curious about some. Look at this fella rolling his 6-pack. Love the push up challenge. You and your pepper sauce David. Those are no joke. Love that you eat from the locals in your travels. True authentic foods. Not the tourist Bougie restaurant versions.

Haha that moment was wild! To be fair he could absolutely handle his pushups. We saw him a few more times on the trip too lol. I like breadfruit but I totally can see why you don't like it. That makes two of us I hated that since I was a kid...we had the trees in our yard...my family prepared it in every way that you could think of and I hated it all along with it's cousin bread-nut..never like those either..

Roasted breadfruit/saltfish...very filling....and with salads even better....and soursop smoothie...nice......Ursula is very kind and generous like most Caribbean peoples. The pier...mountains ..sea..volcanoes...Dominica is just a beautiful island to visit . Also the guy who gave the hats...generous too. This was another beautiful video...looking forward to the others. Hola David. Island life is very relaxed and easy going. Love Ursula. Very nice and friendly lady. Her breakfast is so good but you needed some pepper sauce and a cup of hot cocoa tea (not hot chocolate) to go with it. Isn't that better than the traditional North American breakfast that we are accustomed to? Anywhere you go in the Caribbean you will find similar dishes: breadfruit, salted fish, like buljol, fried bake and salt fish (the way we say it in Trinidad). Even the smoothies and juices are made from fresh fruits. Hot fried bakes with the cheese mixture are very good too. Now as to the hats, you and Nathan looked like Asian men in the he rice paddies 😂😂😂. Nice of you and Bongo to remind visitors of the hurricane season. David, you have visited quite a few Caribbean islands now and you are yet to take a dip in the Caribbean Sea/Atlantic ocean. Still waiting for you to do it.🤗 Anyway, this was very nice. Hahah there will be a video of me dipping myself in the ocean very soon! I promise. Its because I don't get as much relaxation time on my trips as I probably should. I'm always out filming not enough time to chill at the beach as I should. On the next trip I'll take an afternoon at the beach though! Blessings to you Judy!!

Ursala is sweet kind lady :) and love her cooking. Salted fish really keep seeing this and want to try it one day. Lovely town. Town feels relaxing . Love all the fresh juices and fish. HII!!! Great to see you as always! It was an airbnb and it was absolutely awesome. I might consider another option depending on your budget. I stayed in a hotel for a brief moment which was the Intercontinental Hotel in Portsmouth. There are some other luxury accommodations depending on what you are looking for! The AirBnB we stayed at was very very nice although I think you'd have to decide if you wanted a more city, local experience or more of a hotel resort with nature and more exclusivity. Huge ❤️ to you and hoping you are having a beautiful Florida weekend!

Just to be fair english is my second language, I'm actually a native spanish speaker so Dominica tripped me up pronunciation wise. Trust me when I say that I've now mastered the way to say it lol.
