The fact that DP and NYA trust you to repair that lift shows the measure of respect they have for you. They may not admit it but they know you have skills and figure things out.

Well Mike, there may be better ways to do cylinders but it just wouldn't be the same. lol I like your way and they didn't leak. Job well done. Keep Smilin and keep doin things your way....
Good on you for having a go at it . The only thing that I would do is to get DP to sign off the repairs,I would check public liability cover ,this is a machine that may be used by third parties and since it involves lifting people into the air above the standard safe zone . Something to take seriously,as one can't say "it will be fine " I would probably clamp the long Ram housing to a bench with timber blocks along it's length, eliminate any chance of damage to the cylinder. When disassembling parts, try to have a container set aside so the old part stay separated from the new parts , especially with o-rings . Think and work like an aircraft engineer is a good work ethic ,and all this is only suggestion, not saying you did it wrong . Best part was seeing work being done in the DP workshop and in most it was a peaceful moment, your ear wasn't getting chewed or teased by someone lol. Let's hope the machine gets checked over ,full service and that Ram that is slightly leaking ,gets repaired sooner than later ,again it's lifting people .
You approached it in a logical manner and got the results desired. So, you did fine.
You are a genius... Do not know how you are able to figure all of this stuff out and make it work without injuring yourself.
"I'm just a guy tryin' to survive" That should have been printed on the back of your t-shirt😊😊😊

You have such a sweet way of saying thanks but no thanks, I’m still gonna do it the way I want to anyway. I have been in the repair industry for 45 plus years and it still comes down to, do it the way the circumstances allow you to do it, but be sure it functions the way it is suppose to, safely, which you accomplish young man. Having the collective wisdom to let a sleeping dog lie with that stuck cylinder pin.........is the kind of knowledge that usually has a great story to go along with it.....😅😅😅
Nice long episode Captain. I'm sure Mike appreciated you getting those cylinders rebuit so he could work on other equipment or contract work. Just a bit of advice. I've rebuild hydrolic cylinders back when I was in charge of Coast Guard Airstation Miami's ground support shop. My CPO I worked under taught me to alway put a light coating of seal lube on the piston inner seals as the inside/first seal that slides on the shaft wipes the oil off so there's no lubrication for the piston inner and end seals. It only takes a speck of dust ot dirt to damage those seals as you're sliding the piston on. One thing I learned early on when I was originally stationed at Coast Guard Airstation Traverse City Michigan and assigned to the fixed wing shop (Grumman HU16e Albatross seaplanes) as a Flight Mechanic was to listen carefully to the old guys senior to me when they were explaining what and why I was doing maintenance on equipment. I also learned right away cleaning the Shop CPO's coffee mug was a really numbnuts action. He seriously wasn't happy. Got stuck chipping ice from the huge 2 ton WW II hanger doors for two months. That was usually done by non-rated personnel.had to be at the hanger 5 am to do it and there was 4 doors, 2 per side of the hanger. Never did that again.
It’s so good to see you Captain
Hello Mike. You always say, in this type of video, that you are not a mechanic OR this is not a How-To video, but you always get the job done and things work as expected. If you clean out your truck, you will need what you took out. I once took a trip around the country in a 1981 Honda Civic Hatchback and pulled an eight-foot trailer. I took everything I thought I might need just in case I needed it. It was about 10,000 miles in two weeks with the final 2,000 miles in two days. (You may be thinking, A person cannot do that. I did not sleep those two days and only ate when I got gas.) Have good days!
Can’t wait to see the yacht project getting underway again.
I always chuckle when you start with your "disclaimers". I don't read too many of the comments to your vids. But, boy - o - boy, you must sure get some doozy comments based on your disclaimer!! Love ya Man!!

I enjoy working on equipment, at my leisure... Wouldn't be able to do it as a career! Less than a year ago, I was helping out a friend and worked on a few pieces of his equipment! I ended up buying a large set of Sunex metric wrenches and a complete set of deep 1/2" milwaukee sockets. The only reason I went with them was because they didn't skip any sizes. They stay in my truckbox for that exact reason, when you need the right one, it's there. They have saved me so many times
Another episode of making it up as you go along and run watcha brung! I think its great to be able to adapt and overcome and actually get things done in a way that it works when you finish. Great job and I'm looking forward to the next episode of "Run Watcha Brung."
Nice job Mike. Always fun, so to speak to take on a project for the first time. The good new, you will probably not have to do this project again. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Mike for bringing us along on another very non-educal video, as just an average man I appreciate your down to earth way of doing things, I remember my fathers saying of Jack of all trades, Master of none, and maybe that is what they mean now a days with multi tasking, appears we were ahead of our time, so thank you again you made an old man happy.
Thanks for another awesome video Captain. DP and NYA will be happy little campers now. Ready for NYA to take to his castle. From kiwi land.
Thanks for another interesting video.
We saw a lot of the KZreadr’s were walking around with boxes just like that tumbler box at the Perry County Fair meet and greet. We did buy a tumbler but we did stop by the Derby Market and prepaid for some ice cream for a fella’s family and some treats for a pup named Charlotte.
You shouldn't have been so good at rebuilding your 555, I think DP saw you doing that and thought I know a good man for dealing with my seals. 🤗👍 Like your ethos about not clearing out your truck, my car boot and trailer are exactly the same. 😂
My hats off to ya! I hate working on seals!
Hey Mike, When they say this is the way you should do it; just turn around and show them the back of your shirt “ I do what I want to” 😂

Great Video Mike, Hey, Dirt Perfect used one of those 3 finger seal installers on the Jake Brake rebuild on the Mack. I think that's where he introduced the tool. SOOOoooo.... Yep, he did have one at one time. I liked the reason you wouldn't give out the torque spec. I laughed out loud on that one. Have a great day.

Hi Mike. I think half the battle with mechanic work is setting your mind to doing it. Once you've decided you're ready to tackle that job it either goes smooth or not and you learn something. You might learn that you just lost some tiny, irreplaceable part which launched itself into some deep dark corner but that almost never happens, right? Nice job on the cylinders. The barter system works pretty well. Nice to not have to pay out of pocket to use equipment you need but don't have. Thanks for the video! -mike

That inner seal Tool isn't that costly and of course good ole Amazon sells them. Sure makes resealing cylinders ablot easier. I had to reseal a 10' long cylinder on my old Rollback and it was sooo much fun 😊.. Loved the content, video.
There is not many people that would try and May I say succeed in the things you do but hats off to you bud for the can do attitude. You will go far in life just keep it up . 👍🏻 37:55

Many years ago a very wise elderly gentleman told/taught me never to turn down the advice of others because they just might know something that you will be able to use now or in the future. When I asked him how do you know if the advice given was good to wit he replied that is up to you to determine but it never hurts you to take the time to listen because while the advice you have determined not to be helpful still might have a lesson to be learned. Case in point the good Captain told people that he doesn’t need people to give advice in the comment section but isn’t an active comment section part of the KZread analytics measurement strategy/standards? Therefore him telling viewers he doesn’t need people’s advice is telling people don’t bother to comment which in turn can/will hurt his channel

Hi Mike, London calling… hoping you have a great day.
I've rebuilt plenty of cylinders in my years of wrenching. The best advice I can give you for the next ones you do, soak the new seals in warm oil or warm water. It makes them more pliable and easier to install. Thanks again for the great content. Keep working!

Hey Cap!! If you had a way to apply vacuum to the hydraulic system would help get the air out. Like when DP and Clint added the rear hydraulics to the 850J. Great job as always.
Hey Cap. I'm not thinking you have a lot of time for watching your tube, but I would point you to Cutting Edge Engineering. He is a guy in Australia who works on the big mining equipment. Does a lot of rods. Very good channel. But you and I are much alike in the whole getting it done cause it needs doing. Afterwords do we find a better way to get it done, more then likely, but we get it done.
Yah when DP put wheels on that bench I made a comment about that same issue , unless you can raise the wheels you have eliminated half of the uses of the bench .
We need to get you to 100K subscribers. Thanks for the video.
