Tractor driving in America - The Ferguson 35! LMM Drives Episode 17.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hello good people of the internet,
Today we return to America, as I managed to track down a little tractor, which looked rather similar to my own, and the owner told me to take it out and have a play!
A video featuring
Lawrie - all on his own in the wilds of America, but just so happy to be on a tractor!
A big thank you to Jim for the hospitality and letting me have an afternoon of just being a general nuisance.
A video edited by Geffers.
I've got an Instagram! Keep track of what I'm up to with Lawries_Mechanical_Marvels

There's something about these old tractors you can't explaine to people, they are just magic. Back in the 70s when I was just 6 living on a farm, I learnt to drive the Ferguson TE20 (old grey) and if I had the room now, would love one again.

Nice video pal, reminds me of me and my mate and his dad helping out on the dads mates farm and he had a 35 but cant remember if it was the MF or just F. The dad also had a t20 on the back garden with a whole story attached to it, unfortunately with the passing of mates dad a few year ago he decided he couldn't do anything with it and sold it to a guy who now uses it on his garden so at least it's running around again, keep it up LMM.

as a kid on the farm we had a ford 8n, and a 9n with a front loader. mr. ferguson had a huge impact on tractor design for decades. mostly because of his patents on the three point hitch. every manufacturer wanted to use it. it was so perfect, it is on every tractor made today, unless they, and their implements are so huge, they can only use a drawbar.

The first vehicle I ever drove was a Massey-Ferguson 35, on my uncle's croft up in Scotland. He had a couple of newer tractors too but the old Massey was still in regular use, and often a more reliable cold starter in the viciously cold winters up there. It would also handle the deep snow they often got up there better than the newer ones...

Hellow Lawrie. My stepdad recently bought a TEA 20 wreck, I mean restoration project. 1949. A lot smaller than the 35 in the video but other than size there doesn't seem much difference. By wreck, I mean, it was a wreck. Rotten rear mudguards, three knackered tyres (one was missing altogether) three knackered wheels, no bonnet, no fuel tank, no seat, no distributer, no ignition coil, knackered manifold, no exhaust, no battery, half the electrics missing, no oil gauge, knackered water gauge, no starter motor. So, we have had to buy many many parts for the engine first so we can see if it will run. Hmm....Maybe I should have listed what was right with it, would have been a shorter list. To throw more fun into it, neither I or my stepdad know wtf we are doing lol. But if you don;t jump in and try, how will you learn?

I watched the other two I found cause of time to burn and I do like tractors. You were too goofy in the head for before but this time more adult and much more enjoyable. I hope this is the trend. Buying tractors because you can is reason enough for me as I did race cars. Bad to the bone cobras and other muscle cars that the tack was the only thing I paid attention to as speed was my need. Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels what I’ve been told is that all three companies made a UK and a US version one of the versions hade a four speed gearbox and the front mounted headlights I was told it was the UK version and people from my side of the puddle got wind of the better looking four-speed and started sending letters too Massey and Ferguson and that results in them shipping many of the UK versions on this side of the puddle hell my Uncle even owned one when he was a kid and it’s now he’s dream tractor. Ford tried to do this not knowing how many people would like to buy the American step brother and they shipped the first 100 to Japan or China then they were sent to the UK (I don’t know why) they quickly realized the US wanted these hobby tractors for these farms and Ford got more cash out of it because no chicken tax and no shipping. So up here in Canada we can get them for a dime a dozen.
