michele lambertselston Irma will have 2 legacies. First it will destroy some place on the gulf coast between Texas and the Florida panhandle. Second, it will cause weathermen to be paying attention to atmospheric conditions and not historical tracks for prediction models. There was never an atmospheric vector push to suddenly turn to the north.

This isn't our first Rodeo or Hurricane you know

so if you have an electric car and it runs out of charge on the crowded highway. how do you get it recharged? how long will it take to recharge while the storm is barreling down on you? and if the storm knocks out the power for several days, how do you charge the car? guess it's better to have an old reliable gas guzzler

Here in Puerto Rico (EAST) just the 100mph wind gust that Irma produce, did alot of damage.it took out electrical poles,trees,..900,000 people without electricity...this is a very severe hurricane.god help the ones that are caught in the eye of that hurricane.

If it is strong enough it could go inland It's just rare depends on the Jet Stream honestly nobody knows where this thing will go it can go north south idk most likely North but right now the jet stream is pushing down on Irma which is forcing it down in Florida going inland will be a recipe for disaster either way it's going just don't know what side welcome the world of the east and northeast coast we get hurricanes and Tropical Storms all the time it's just I haven't seen anything this evil since Sandy

What if it skips Miami and slams right into Texas

After the NWS model on Harvey proved problematic, look at the UKM [also known as UKMET] model. It has consistently shown a flatter track then the new model being used by US government weather agencies. I guess Obama had them add some odd "bias" adjustment to make projections less reliable, but haven't dug into methodology yet - just observe a much larger error on their part. UKM model did at first show it tracking on Cuba's southern coast, but the northern coast is not far from the same threat: IRMA is going to peek its head into the Gulf, and the only question is how it exits. Sad thing is, most of the gasoline has been sucked out of the state by the east coaster exodus, and Gulf side residents could be in a very big bind indeed.

Im watching and hoping it hits Cuba and breaks up a bit in the mountains before it turns northward... a couple hundred miles offshore. A cat 3 will be no big deal, tons of rain and wind but SW Florida has had than many times. I'm optimistic, I live in Fort Myers so I am hoping. I still can't believe this thing traveled 1700 miles and its on a direct hit path exactly where I live... and its not an easy thing for a hurricane to direct hit a lower/inner SW Florida coast... oh brother.
