Tracking Hurricane Ian: Landfall Wednesday in southwest Florida
As of Wednesday morning, Hurricane Ian is expected to make landfall in southwest Florida, most likely north of Fort Myers, meaning that area will be on the right side of the eye and face high storm surge levels.
FOX 13's meteorologist Dave Osterberg breaks down the forecast path and impacts from Tampa Bay to Fort Myers to Polk County.

*Wow! This guy is such a HAM! He's loving this hurricane so he can get ATTENTION on TV!*
Thank you for the objective reporting!
This guy is a pro.
This time yesterday all the reports were that it would make landfall just north of or right at Clearwater… 12 hours later, it was Fort Meyers… not long before, it was the panhandle. These storms must be very, very tricky to forecast. If it is so difficult, I would very much like to hear much less confidence in reporting by the reporters. They speak as if they know what is going to happen (with occasional caveats) but it seems like they were, in this case, just spitballing. I had an offer from someone in Fort Myers, at 7:00 yesterday morning to evacuate there… this was the thinking based on the coverage. This person, probably not alone, was offering to help because Fort Myers was not in the discussion. Maybe this sort of localized phenomenon is too difficult to forecast over 24 hour periods and I should listen, rather, to the reporting about global weather events over the next 25 to 100 years as such seem much easier to forecast and the reporters seam zealous, maybe religious, in the certainty of their reporting. Hurricanes are good for ratings though…

I live in Melbourne so I have been through many hurricanes and many predictions. This is not an exact science. They can only go off of the information they have, and the observed behavior with past hurricanes. Youre being way too cynical.
@gingrai00
Жыл бұрын
@@Ryattt81 what I am suggesting is that it is highly unpredictable but their reportage does not make this clear. The example I gave should provide adequate context to demonstrate this… our relative in Fort Myers, just yesterday at 7:00 AM felt comfortable enough, based on the reportage, to invite us to take refuge in Fort Myers where the storm seems now to be approaching landfall. Were the reporters more careful and more realistic, they would not have provided such an impression. Because it is not an exact science (not really even close when you figure the time, severity and location differences between yesterday at 7:00 AM and today at the same time) there should be appropriate humility and context provided so that people in Fort Myers feel appropriately at risk and so that people in Tampa aren’t certain. It’s not cynicism… it’s a semi-colorful appeal for candor and accuracy. Some of my comment was aimed at a diagnosis of the cause for the lack of candor and accuracy… ratings = money and short term > long term in todays media culture.

It was not a 3 inland. No one on the ground witnessed 150 mph winds…. Strictly a storm surge/water event storm. Tropical storm almost immediately.
No insights about how high the storm surge is bringing onto the coastal areas.? The 85 degree water temperature is the fuel for this storms engine.
