Track Saw Crosscut Table

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Track saws are equally at home in the workshop and on the job site. Ben Strano shows how to build a table that will make the track saw your go-to tool for crosscutting panels that are too big for your tablesaw.

    Ben this is excellent. I am new to track saws but not wood and have been using my track saw a great deal over the last few months. I now realise I hardly ever use my table saw and having now seen how simple you made the build of this jig I can't wait to make one. Thank you so much.

    That's exactly what I need at home! I don't have room for stationary working bench, but I have a track and a plunge saw, and this is a simple, cheap yet adequately precise solution that can help me cut pieces out of plywood sheets easily and quickly. Thanks for the idea!!!

    Thanks!! I don't have a track saw (yet), but the same technique will work for using a straight edge and a circular saw too, so I might as well make one!

    The UPS truck just delivered my Makita track saw yesterday. After a couple test cuts, I immediately made this crosscut jig.

    Makita make great tools as well just not to the same level of finish that Festool offers and not as flexible in their applications either. Still a good quality saw and probably perfect for the right buyer.

    I think, this way it will be hard to repeat same size many times - need a stopper. Also it will be hard to cut small peaces. I have Bosch saw and guides, and also thinking about crosscut table construction, but have no yet ideas of how to overcome above issues.

    I would be simple to add a stop to the fence, or just clamp a stop block onto the fence. As for small pieces, a spacer block matching the thickness of the stock put under the guide rail, would work. -Ben

    This was a real good video, and thanks for posting it. I've just made a job-site version of it, screwing the guide rail directly to my table, which is nothing but a sheet of plywood on sawhorses. But I've used the same principals. Just wondered, how do you know a sheet of Plexiglas is square? Not starting an argument, but 3-4-5 is really hard apply on things that small, at least for me! I use it to square concrete slab forms. But this is precision work. Do most Plexiglas squares come perfectly square? Thanks again, Steve

    something is square if 1. all sides are equal, and 2. both diagonals are equal. so measure the diagonals from corner to corner. if they are the same, it's square. if not, it's a parallelogram.

    Here another square check method is explained. As for me, it much more usefull, than 3-4-5: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqhtl9CYd5ubnJM.html

    +Thephiloctopus Measuring square is only as accurate as the measuring tools being used. Being out by a fraction of a millimeter may not seem like much but it most certainly will get exposed when being used as a standard for a tool.

    Yup... I'm pretty sure once you cut the guide strip it wouldn't line up for a festool saw but if you ever switched to a festool you could just install a new guide strip.

    You can buy an accessory that fits in your guiderail making it like a square. I woul like to add a stop to this thing so you can cut the same piece over and over.

  • @aml25
    @aml25 Жыл бұрын

    Silly question, but are you cutting into your table top every time you make a cut? How do you sustain this or lift up your cut piece so you don't cut into the table?

  • @filldev

    @filldev

    Жыл бұрын

    Not silly at all. Cutting directly into the table seems to be the norm for track saw crosscut jigs. But it’s in the same spot every time, so there’s only the first cut, and it should be shallow if setting the cut depth properly.

  • @FineWoodworking

    No. That extra little lip is the only difference between the two tracks. Considering I've never once cut a bevel with it the saw it isn't a big deal to me. It'll work fine when I do. If I cut bevels every day it would be a nice feature to have.

    Most of these types of jigs are Almost square. I made one too, so thanks for the video! But mine was off a tad. A few test cuts later, one stop is now shimmed out by three strips of blue tape... But the jig is perfect.

    It maybe perfect for what you need it for but it may not actually be perfectly square. The craftsman has to judge for him or her self in terms of accuracy.

    If it's 48" wide and you stuck a 1" strip as a "fence" you won't be able to lay a full size board to crosscut. May I suggest adding the strip perpendicular to the edge along the outside edge?
