Track Record Attempt in Alastaro | Audi R8 1:1 Time Attack Run

In this video, the R8 1:1 team starts their European track record tour. During 2022 and 2023 we will break 10 track records around the continent. The first one is our home track Alastaro. For this event, we brought a special guest driver to make sure we take the record home.
Follow the professional amateurs as we seek for that one magical record lap. As usual for Time Attack, it's not all smooth sailing through the day...

You might have ”driven” this one already in its previous form as it is included in the Grid game. 😁 Now with roughly 3 times the downforce compared to that evolution. Thanks for the follow!

Depending on the ECU, you could lower the boost in the lower gears, to help with traction. It also looks like a bit oversteery on turn in, but nothing huge you could tweak out.

Good comment. We did actually move towards a more rear grippy setup during and after this test. And this was the first time with good grip and all available power so we took the option to check how much the rears can take.

Could listen to that all day. After the traction control was turned down and it was breaking traction on the exits it sounded absolutely immense! Amazing build

You can tell straight away that traction control could be dialled in to let it go more everywhere in the gear change and throttle inputs , so cool 😎🤙

I have no clue why boost by gear is not more used.. the 2-3 gear out of control while flooring it case could be solved, making the car more reliable and making stuff easyier for the driver.

Yep. We have never seen the traction potential of this package and have been using more and more boost on evwry gear so sometimes especially with talented hand and feet behind the wheel its the best learning experience to turn everything off and see what happens.

Whoah that is a seriously cool piece of equipment! But on Alastaro circuit’s website the fastest lap is marked as 1 minute 9 seconds and then some. What does the 1 minute 13 seconds and some refer to as a record? A record for a car of that type?

For the new layout there is no list for lap times. The layout and surface changed 2018 or so. Not by much but a different layout anyway. This is the best time by non-open wheeled car so far.
Bring it to Quick 60 at Mallory Park next year. It would be perfect there

Good option! A bit of a stretch for a sub-minute lap time to get everything there but if we end up doing something else on that corner of the world then why not.

Most likely not next year but it is not ruled out for future. We do need a bit more development to be competitive enough there and the tire spec is a bit of a challenge for us.
Every time I see a build like this I just think poor tires
If the driver can't get the times I'm sure he could walk into a modelling career the next day

We laugh at the Japanese Bosozoku-style cars but here there are, in time attack. Perhaps some reasonable limits on body mods are in order.

Joo toi nykyinen GoPro setup on ongelmallinen kun se on järjettömän herkkä valo-olosuhteille. Siihen on tulossa erilainen ratkaisu.

Gear referenced boost i think is the best way to go. I hate elctronic traction control. Just a personal bias though. I'm sure it can be tuned to be better/faster buuuut i just dislike electronic driver aids/interference.

Maybe the interior camera needs to be a bit closer to the windshield? All the black around it blows out the track completely. Also whaaaaat the fuck is that car? That aero makes Pikes Peak look tame.

Yep a known issue. New cam layout coming but did not make it to this run. The car is built to World Time Attack Challenge competition rules. Not many limits there.

We actually never been to Ahvenisto with this car. There might be an issue to fit the front through the pit-in gate…😅

Joo siellä ollaan käyty useamman kerran jo ajamassa mutta mitään järkevää aikaa ei ole saatu aikaiseksi vielä. Rataprofiili sopii tällaiselle autolle kyllä hyvin. Koitetaan ensi keväänä päästä vetämään!

1360 is wheel horsepower and it is roughly 1500 from the crank.

@@r8_1_1 That makes no sense at all. Bugatti Veyron had 1001 hp but at the wheels had around 987hp. Only losing 14hp so 1500hp engine doesn't lose 140 hp at the wheels...

@@tim69_smcv What kind of car loses 140hp through the transmission, etc.? That would be an extremely badly shape car. That kind of horse power is the equivalent of 2 small normal cars. That would mean that a small normal car would have to have 200hp+ just to have 60hp in the wheels... Lmao This is the most ridiculous claim I've heard about cars.

@@HeavenlyWarrior Some guys in Las Vegas put a Veyron on a dyno in 2020 and the measured 897whp. Just Google the „15% rule“… 1500hp-15% = 1350hp > Almost exactly what they are showing in the video. Drivetrain loss is proportional to the engine power. Got it?
