@@stevelitton I can't see my custom event under the Event section, except for the realtime section preview. Any idea where can I preview my outbound event clicks for a longer period of time?

@@armendbajrami1796 If you have just enabled it then you won't have any historical data as it doesn't work retrospectively. After 24-48 hours it should start showing in the standard reports starting from the day you enabled it.

@@stevelitton I see, I'll be waiting then for 48 and hope it works. Thanks for the fast reply 🔥

No problem. I am going to do a video soon about how to create outbound link reports which you might find helpful.

Didn't work for me - the event didn't show up in the Realtime section after I created the event and tested it in Incognito mode. Does it take a while to start showing up there? I know there's a delay as to when it'll show up in the actual reports, but it isn't registering anywhere for me. Triple checked everything - no typos, enhanced metrics are on, everything looks correct. Edit: it worked - it takes some time for the event to register and show up in your Realtime stats. It won't show up right away.

Give it a bit of time and it should start showing in your reports.

Very informative video, thank you! I have questions, with an external link that not put anywhere on my website, is it still trackable with Google Analytics? Because I tried with your method, but it didn't show the event name in the event table. Thank you in advance!

Thank you, glad you found it useful. If the link is not on your website it will not be trackable as you need to record the click.

Hey there, this worked like a charm! I was curious, is there a way to set up a single custom event to track link clicks to multiple different URLs? I know in Event setup, it has to match all parameters, but I might be missing something. Maybe more doable in google tag manager? Thank you!

Glad you got it working 👍 For more complex events I tend to either use Tag Manager or use Javascript to fire them direct from the page.

@@stevelitton Awesome good to know! Tag manager sounds like the move then, client wants to know when anyone clicks on a list of like 800 links from a dealer locator page. Think that would be the move then in Tag Manager?

I guess it depends what information you need. If you just want the number of clicks for each link then it might be that a custom report is better suited. I will make a video on how you can do that.

@@stevelitton The goal would be to make it a trackable conversion in Google Ads, so we can also do attribution for the ads technically. Quite a niche question I know, but it's a company who has a bunch of dealers who want to know how well the ads are driving people to their dealer's pages. Once they find a retailer they usually don't come back to the site

@@EliSingh-pw3uz You could find out how many clicks each dealership has had from ads using a report like that. But it wouldn't really work as an ads conversion, as they tend to be much more generic. Another way you could track it is to send UTM data through the link but then you would be relying on them to track what is coming in through their own Analytics.
