Seems the Hotline shirts are sold out, so I bought a hoodie and shirt from Category Six. Love the series, they are astonishingly well done. Smart move to put the sound just on the rider, and the high, stabilized shooting gives the viewer a really good sense of why the rider is making the decisions they do. (I can't believe that, even with stabilization, Terry is able to keep the camera on the rider that consistently.) And I appreciated Erik apologizing to the pedestrians.

This is a really great lesson for me about gearing. I just changed up my first fixed gear from a 48/16 that came stock to 48/19 because there are a ton of hills where I live and I needed the help. My immediate impression was that my acceleration and braking was much faster but my top speed was a bit slower. Ironically, because of the extra speed control it offered me, I actually felt more comfortable riding faster on average. Anyway, when he said he was running 48/18, I thought "oh so he's not going to go as fast as some of the other guys I've seen on this channel". But this dude rips. He definitely uses the fast stopping and acceleration, but he was hauling ass at times when I thought he couldn't. It really is more about how you use it. Thanks for the vid as always Terry
@cirofdo

Yeah it makes a lot of sense, because there are few opportunities to get max speed. In the other hand there are a lot of scenarios when you need to accelerate or brake, specially in my case where I actually stop in most red lights.

Just a comment: dangerous, yet amazing skills, rude to those around him, yet understands how to operate in NYC traffic, reckless yet great foresight, crazy yet looks like so much fun.

Mad skills! That's tops any type of ridding or driving and is the most intense! Can't imagine getting to that level without alot of crashing and broken bones.Thats absolutely the most uncontrolled environment to ride through and come out unscathed!
People say Bear Grylls' cameramen are more skilled than him for doing the same stunts while carrying loads of cameras. This video reminds me of the same, as the focus is on Erik, but the real star is the guy keeping up with him while filming him.

I lived in New York for 49 years work in Manhattan almost all my life I have never seen a bike rider like this you are the flash on wheels.
Thank you. This video reminded me of a late friend who was a courier in Brisbane Australia. Used to ride with him like this every chance I could get. I miss him so much watching this and shed a few tears remembering better times. Thanks so much. Keep up the great vids.
Terry’s riding is the real achievement in these videos.

One of the most dense and sketch NYC hotlines I've seen. Erik Otto rides on the edge of control it seems, but I'm sure he is in control more than it shows on video. Another classic Terry!

I think the reason I like these videos so much is that this is simply the best way to make your way through a big city like New York. What I mean by best is the cheapest and fastest, perhaps also the most impressive. I don't care if you're breaking laws, regardless, you'd be the victim of your own alleged stupidity, in most cases. What I'm trying to say is, I like what you do Terry, keep it up.
Love that we got to hear what gears duder is running. Would love more specs on the bikes and any stories or info about them in future episodes!
Watching these videos always blows my mind how you can get around so fast on a fixed geared track bike and do it with brakes
I like so much the people that say "its not special, is a piece of garbage but... is my piece of garbage" "this bike isn't special but i have it for too long" THAT IS SPECIAL BRO...
Guy's got skills! So does the videographer. Shittin' myself watching this!!
As a pro cyclist,I take my helmet down to honor your amazing skills,you are the best 🥇
It's interesting to see Erik and his lower gear ratio as a follow up cut to Mario. Very cool to see how gearing preference lends itself to different riding styles.
@Jack42Frost

Lower gear ratio!!!! To me that is a high gear ratio. Spin to win.
13:45 you hit that rearview mirror
I really loved the vibe of this video! So calming with the mic on the front rider and all the single NYC sounds. It's like ASMR meets Messenger Bike Racing in really good quality. Really enjoyed the ride. This was pure beauty.
watching these guys i am really impressed. cadence is king. bike handling is off the charts. at about 13:30 in eric almost got impaled by steal rods hanging out the back of the truck. his bike handling again is amazing. he seems a little big for the bike he rides mainly the top tube but he makes it happen alot better than i could. good stuff !

Love this one mate, what I like is this dude knows when to hit it or quit it. Nice one Terry 👍🏻
This was just so sick at so many moments. Erik is one cool dude.
These flow through NYC traffic bike videos are fucking absolutely amazing. Super chill, sound of the traffic, rider just absolutely killing reading everything around him and whoah.. Just fucking beautiful. I love it.
I hope you keep making many of these. Fantastic in every way, and a good sense of work on city streets. I rarely pushed it that hard while working, even with a rush on my back - the odds against you stack up fast, and energy conservation is everything. But it's a blast to do a ride-along with a master rider hepped up on coconut milk.

Not to take away from his skill, but this is the norm for any rider who’s dealt with riding through Manhattan traffic. I tell people all the time how fun, and efficient travel by bike in NYC is. He went from Columbus Circle to lower Manhattan in about 15 minutes (over 50 blocks). Wasn’t even pushing it either.

For approximately 15min20sec of this I was tense af. My Dog!! Erik's riding is frenetic but mesmerising. The gaps he sees (most of the time lol) & the lines he commits to were heart in mouth stuff. Lets be real here. If he followed all the traffic laws, it would be a boring snoose fest video. Nobody would watch a video of him standing with his bike waiting a full minute for the light to change green or him sitting behind a car stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. Right? We watch the "extreme" city bike ride or the mountain bike ride because of the dangerous risks. Risks that we wouldn't take because lack of skill and guts. I don't like zooming by a pedestrian on crosswalk or blowing a red light and just missing a car but I can still appreciate the skills and guts.

@Luis Barrios On the internet, "everyone can ride like him". In reality, you can never ride like him because of the danger and fear factor that would absolutely scare you and limit you. It goes beyond how fast and how long one can pedal. If you think you can just pick up a bike and ride like him with no experience, you are fooling yourself.

@@Watchman47 Cars speed up very very quickly in NYC. And everyone drives EXTREMELY aggressively. I've never cycled there, but I have driven many times, and it's absolutely unlike anything else I've seen in the US or Europe. People slam on the gas when lights turn green, even when they're going to have to stop in 2 blocks. And if you don't drive aggressively yourself, you will get run off the road by other cars. (I'm not exaggerating, you will literally get edged out of your lane by other vehicles until you're stuck behind parked cars unless you drive like an overly aggressive asshole). Honestly, it was hard to even imagine the concept of driving being "difficult" until I drove in NYC. It's just a completely different thing--more similar to like 3rd world city driving I imagine--just due to the density combined with the speed and aggression and the fact that there are people and obstacles EVERYWHERE, etc.
