Tracing your Irish Ancestors

Australian filmmaker Mark Shea tries to trace his Irish ancestors (O'Shea) by meeting up with Cork local Brian O'Shea.
Brian informs me of how DNA tests can now determine where your ancestors came from in Ireland.
Mark's great, great Grandfather left Ireland as a 16 year old just after the potato famine. He first went to America and then on to Australia.

as an O'Shee-O'Fallon descendant I trace my roots to Kerry (Iveragh), region from which my ancestors left for Euskadi (spanish basque country) in the late 17th century, later my direct relative (serving as officer in the spanish Armada) passed to the Philipines, and finally ended as provincial governor in the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata... my other irish ancestors left Euskadi in the late 18th's for Chile, where both branches met... and now I am back in Europe: "Identity" can mean many things

My Grandmother was Johanna O'Callaghan (born O'Shea in 1853), she had a sister May O'Shea. I have that she lived near Blennerville, near Tralee, Co.Kerry. Who knows maybe we're related.

The population statistics are given incorrectly in this video. It is the population for the whole island of Ireland that is given, for before the famine, whereas only the population of the Republic of Ireland is given for the present day. Northern Ireland has a population of 1.8 million and the Republic 4.6 million. That makes 6.4 million, as compared with the grossly underestimated eight million pre-famine.

Government officials of the Southern Irish state consider Ireland's Northeast region as a natural, integral and permanent part of Great Britain. However, Ireland fields ONE team when competing internationally in rugby, hockey and cricket.

My last name is Parks, my father tells me that my ancestor, great-great-great grandfather, came from Ireland. I have tried to trace this but have come to a block. It is possible that he could have been a prisoner and taken to the state of Georgia, USA. Is it possible to trace where he came from?
