Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had remarked: "Coorg has given great generals to the Indian Army. It is noted for its choicest coffee and if I am permitted to add one more to these specialties, I can mention that Coorg is famous for its beautiful and comely women." Huge respect for our kodava brothers from Tamilnadu

Hema Latha Nehru also banned sadhus from entering Nagaland and purposefully allowed missionaries to convert them. Today 88 % nagas are converted to christianity.

Your culture is bit similar to us, your problem is bit similar to us, your faith is bit similar to us. Your customs are exotic as ours. We both belong to micro community but Kodavas are educationally and financially forward than us and we are politically stronger than Kodavas as we govern ourselves under 6th scheduled of Indian constitution(Dima Hasao Autonomous Council /Future Dima Hasao Autonomous Territory.

Nishitha karumbaiah, the video made me so happy and made me watch again and again, but the end is really a painful truth, that our future generation, will read about kodavas only as a history. And for sure, they may not feel bad for this, because the present generation is not bothered about the danger that is towards our community. Hope very soon we all open our eyes, and save kodavaame. Lovely article.

It is heartening to know that the Kodava population is getting decreased at a faster rate. Kodava is a tribe of sacrifice. The traditions are highly appreciablare The documentaryThe language seems to be a mix of mainly Kannada and Tamil Their contribution to Indian defence is highly memorable. I strongly feel bad about the decreasing population of Kodavas The documentary is really an eye opener thank you

The current situation of Coorg or Kodagu has been nicely depicted. It will serve as an eye opener for many of us Kodavas who are trying to settle down outside Kodagu while others are making it their abode! I hope the youth of Kodagu realise the importance of being in Kodagu and bragging about being a Kodava, rather than bragging about it while showing pics/videos of the weddings they attended! Great work Nishitha!

Wonderful job Madam! The valour of Kodava soldiers need no introduction atleast in the Armed Forces. Being such a miniscule community, the Kodavas have given India a Field Marshal, a General and thousands of bravehearts who are guarding the Indian borders including KC Cariappa, the valiant son of Field Marshall KM Cariappa. I'll do my best as an Indian to forward this movie to as many contacts I can. The threat of extinction loomed over Kodavas once in the 18th century as per my knowledge of history but the resilient community came back greater than before. The community will stand the test of time again and will definitely rise again. I end this note saluting the valiant community.

I surely dint agree with that fairer / taller part but thats fine .. everyone has there opinion now you cant expect everything to be perfect ! but again saying all this i wish the coorgi community though they re very close to my heart not to forget their roots and follow the tradition ** Remember - Coorgi is not just drinking and eating pork !

The Kodavas have always impressed me, what with their martial culture, their arts, cuisine, mountainous landscape and lovely people, specially the women who are so beautiful! This documentary was quite limited in its ambit in depicting and describing Coorg and Kodavas. I pray a sequel should be in the coming, showing in certain details in motion photography the sartorial and culinary aspects as well as a detailed listing of weaponry and styles of martial arts. This should act as an archival source for future researchers and culture enthusiasts like me. Pretty good job, try making it even better next time. Thank you!

The horrible land slides and torrential rains had caused massive damage to Coorg a couple years ago. This phenomenon stands in stark irony against what Retd. Lecturer said 5 years ago. Mrs Kaveri Ponnappa seems to be more comfortable and happy not to be in the fold of Hindu identity. This shows certain reticence on their connection with Hinduism. Lt.Gen Nannayya should have spoken in Kodava language and held the tradition aloft as he expects it from others. Kodava achievements are great and unique. Let this race live on and enrich the culture of this country in their own way.

Hindu isn't a particular religious group but a tagg given to all indigenous faith followers of Indian Indian subcontinent. We also do nature worship, ancestral worship. Hindus also do nature worship(river, trees, mountains etc located in their region ). Kodavas also worship Kaveri a river because they live along Kaveri. People of Uttarakhand also worship river(Ganga) because they live along Ganga river. We Dimasa people worship Kopili river because we live beside the Kopili.

Kodava people should demand a separate state or 5th or 6th schedule Autonomous Councils which govern Hilly regions of Assam and BTR in lower Assam. So that kadavas can preserve their culture, language and community. Don't let much outsiders to settle permanently in Coorg. Micro ethnic community required some kind of safeguard.

When they speak, sound a lot like malayalam dialect of kannur. We even celebrate 'puthari' in kannur. Also give respect to ancestors in theyyam festival, dowry is not a common practice.

Kodava people are like Dimasa people of Assam, exotic people. Who follow clan system and wedding between the same clan isn't allowed. We have no dowry culture too. We have fixed 42 Male clans and 40 female clans. Wedding between the common clans isn't allowed culturally. Kodava people are facing the same problem as us. Kodagu deserve semi autonomous status within Karnataka.

The couple in the video is worried of extinction. Pls instil in the minds of newer generations the significance of ur culture n how is it different from others. N even if the intercaste marriages happen, propagate ur culture to the new comer. Bcoz I feel coorgi culture is a way of living n is not limited to any casteism.

Dear Manmohan Vishwanath, If a certain set of people are fairer, the darker section aren't weaker or any less attractive, sir, please understand that and don't be so insecure about your colour. Also Mrs. Nanjamma in her quote says, "we tend to be fairer and walk with a certain dignity" she DOES NOT say, "gives us a right to walk with dignity". Manmohan Vishwanath, please watch and listen carefully the next time, before commenting anything and trying to act cool. Thank you.

Kodavas are from Kodagu and have been at Kodagu since time immemorial. We predate the Kaveri purana era. Pandi yarchi/pork meat is the prasad given to us by our Lord Mahadeva, which is refered to in our BAALOPAAT, which is our history of pur clan taught to us through folk songs. The Kodava who dont believe in the above facts are western buffoons and not Kodavas
