Good reviewing style, honest and to the point. Considering the Transit B to front my GK1000 head. I had the original SMX amps and they sounded great.

I still wonder…what if you doubled-down and ran say…a pair of Elf combo’s along with extension cabs’ …if that wouldn’t fill the niche for a full-out stage volume rig?

Possibly. Personally I'm not going to invest any more in the elf gear. I may try running the pre-amp into an FRFR and see how that sounds, but I suspect I'll be lacking some bottom end..

The problem with the elf line is the cabs want more power. I have a 2 stacked 1x10s (300w ea.) and run a Mesa D800 watt head and they eat the watts with ease. Grab a stronger head and you will be surprised what these cabs can do. Thanks for the vid!

The more I use the setup the more I see the shortcomings. It works ok for sound reinforced gigs but for big stages I've stated to take the big rigs out again.

@@Paul-Green-Bass I hear you. I just bought a 3rd one on a sale since sometimes two just isn’t enough. Glad my main amp runs at 2 ohms. (3=2.6 ohms) I could add a forth but, 6db more should do the trick and still not put much strain on the amp. What it your larger rig?

So this preamp sounds close to SMX? I planning to get one for studio recording. I hope it will serve me well.

It's pretty close although obviously you have a 5 band EQ vs the 12 on the SMX so a little less versatile. I think its pretty good. It has a dual band compressor too. Mind you I wouldn't pay retail (About 650 AUD here) I got mine for 350 when a local music store was having a sale..
