Yes, when you have a loose connection it will cause a short and arc in the wire nut. Therefore it will not have full power.

thanks for the review - does anyone know what the difference is between the Tapo S505 and the TS15?

Looks like these are the same device and the model is just different depending on the retailer selling it. Best Buy has the TS15 and Amazon has the S505. Really weird and good catch, I'll add that to my description.

The difference is that the TS15 has a dimmer

So what happens when the Internet is down??? Can you still remote control the light???

Since it is still a normal switch, the physical button click will always work. But I think you're asking if it will still work on my local network with no internet. The great thing about Matter is they work without the need of internet. As long as your local network is still online you're good to go, with or without internet.

Do you have to use any tp-link tapo app/software or have to do some kind of registration beforehand? Is it full local? Thx...

Nope, I did this all with Homekit directly since this is a Matter device. No brand specific software was required!

@@bondjw07 would be interesting if it's also working without Apple, Google, Amazon - Clients like that (homekit is also a kind of account in between my device and the hardware, which is required). I wonder if it's working with Home Assistent.

@@niro1960 I am fairly confident that Home Assistant now supports Matter natively. You can find more info on their Matter connectivity on their site: www.home-assistant.io/integrations/matter/

@@bondjw07 I hope so, we will see! 😀 As it is written there: "...without connecting to a vendor-specific cloud. However, some vendors may require you to set up an account before you can enable Matter."🤡

I added my dimmer switch to the Tapo app successfully. When I try to add to HomeKit using the supplied matter code it fails to find the switch. Do you have any suggestions? HomeKit architecture is updated too. I get the error message, "accessory not found"

I just added a new switch this weekend and had the same problem. At the bottom of the switch there are 2 horizontal buttons, one to restart and one to reset. I just held each for like 10 seconds and tried again, totally fixed the problem.

@@bondjw07 yeah JUST figured out there’s a small window that you have to pair to HomeKit by pressing the restart button and then it shows in “nearby accessories” when trying to add. Then you scan the Matter QR code. I wish TP-Link had better documentation on this. Speaking to them on the phone they told me it is not compatible with HomeKit, only adding shortcuts with Siri.

@@EvanDiamond1 Glad you were able to get it working. I'm sure support was confusing it with one of the other switches. I imagine the documentation is still not great on the support end for these.

I recently got these but the pairing process in HomeKit is not working. If I use the app itself it does work. I’ve tried resetting the switches but no luck. I am on iOS 16.6 and my HomeKit is the same. Any ideas?

Have you tried enabling IPV6 on your router and then rebooting all the homekit devices at your house? I know I had to enable IPV6. I didn't have to reboot my homekit devices. I installed a Tapo S505 for the first time today.

Have you upgraded HomeKit to the new Home architecture? If you google "new homekit architecture" you should be able to find an Apple article. I've edited the video description and added the link.

@@bondjw07 Thanks. I've had a tough time linking my Tapo devices to Homekit after the upgrade to the "new homekit architecture" a couple of nights ago. I had to run around and unplug every Apple device I own (2 Apple TVs and about 8 homepod minis) then turn it back on. Even then, one Tapo switch still didn't reconnect. The rest are finally working.

I am on IPv6, I added a new switch closer to my HomePod Mini, it connected immediately. Then I went back upstairs and tried to pair again with the dimmers and they both worked very quickly. So maybe they had to be within range of the Mini?@@joshuaychung
