Thank you so much for a truly excellent guide to installing the C500. It helped tremendously as I installed 2 to the front and rear of my property. I think the cameras are really excellent with 2 reservations. I installed one in a location with wifi strength of 60dB. The response time was ridiculously slow even though the wifi strength was categorised as "good". I was worried that the camera was faulty as the first camera was fine first off. A Tapo wifi range extender solved the problem with wifi strength in mid 40's. The second reservation is the night sensitivity which is so good that rain activates the motion detector and occasionally the person detector, so I need to play around with the settings on wet nights, which are frequent in Ireland. Again thanks for posting a thorough and really excellent video.

I just bought one of these and whilst there are some excellent features I found the motion tracking and zones to not work well. Motion detection is so sensitive that rain and small twigs set it off, even on the lowest settings, so motion tracking means that the camera is often pointing in the wrong direction. The first night it rained my camera was pointed at a wall for most of the night. I have tried setting zones, although it isn't clear how these work on a camera that can track, but it still spots the tiniest movement, even in areas it is supposed to ignore. In the end I turned off motion tracking and gave up. It still does what I wanted, but it is disappointing that it doesn't motion track well as this could have been a real deterrent for anyone coming near my house.

I believe it can be kept on table but that won’t be a good idea. It won’t be firm and might shake on being touched. And also the orientation of video will be upside down. It’s an outdoor camera after all. Go for something like C210 which is an indoor camera with tilt-pan and motion detection.

I have Tapo C310 Bullet Camera. Reboot is a simple restart of the camera.

Bro, thanks a lot for detailed video. If already marked a position and if the EB power is disconnected and comming back, will the camera return to that mark posistion precisely? Have you checked this?

I tested up to 4meters. The voice is clear and audible in the camera if the speaker speaks clear and loud.

I have an Airbnb where the C500 security camera is installed at main entrance. It was working perfectly for many days until it suddenly went black screen, then went disabled, to then offline during an Airbnb guests stay. Is there anyway I can know the cause of this ? Also how do I get it back up and running without the probability of someone possibly disabling it again? Thank you for any help.

You will have to check the camera physically for damage. And then check the video recordings for any mischievous acts of the guests.

Yes, it will turn off. Keep it connected to Home UPS or buy a mini UPS for Camera.

Nope. It can be done manually only. Camera will rotate once and then stop. But no auto rotate feature available.

There’s no sim slot in the camera. You’ll have to use a wifi hotspot.

You can pinch in to zoom in the video or the live feed. But can’t zoom and record a particular view. Camera will continue recording its live view.

It depends on what you are looking for. C310 is a bullet camera and the view cannot be changed remotely. Whereas C500 is a tilt and pan type camera. Both are good.

Can’t say which is the best, but I can suggest you to go for SanDisk which I’m using. It’s been over a year and haven’t faced any issue so far. I have SanDisk 256GB in two cameras. Check it out and go through the reviews. I have a 128 GB Card and it records for upto 40 days. So 64 GB should record for upto 2-3 weeks. But it depends on the amount of recording your camera is doing. My camera is set to record only on motion and there are stray dogs which roam around my home all the time. So you can take idea from there.

It’s pointless to have continuous recording. Why do you wanna record if no motion is taking place? Let’s say some even occurred in front of your camera last week. Would you like to go through entire video footage of a week? It’s time consuming. If your camera is capturing only the motions then it’s very easy to go through the events that occurred infront of camera. But anyways, that’s for me. If you wish to keep it on continuous recording, you can do that. Your camera will continuously write on the memory card which will reduce its lifespan. There’s always a wear and tear with electronic items which depends on the usage. The more the usage the more wear tear.

What bothers me about this camera is that it only captures 15 pictures per second, so the video isn't smooth. ??? Is there a delay in recording a video clip after detecting motion ?? that will prevent me from watching the entire motion from the start?

15 fps is sufficient for a security camera. Video clips are as smooth as they should be given the price of camera. There’s no delay in recording of videos after motion detection.

Check if you have a high speed Class 10 memory card, and make sure internet speed is good at the spot where camera is installed. Then reset your camera and check if it fixes your problem.

You can operate rotation through your phone. Or the Camera will rotate and trace any motion if you have turned on Motion Tracking feature.

Bro it work finely when my mobile connected to same wifi network but when i am away and tried to live view the camera from mobile data in mobile app it doesnt show and tell me to lower the quality even after quality is low it doesnt show any video Why?

Update the app and check if there’s any firmware update available for the camera. If the problem still persists, it’s likely because of the speed of the internet connection.

There is currently no POE-supported model in Tapo camera.

Omg, the screws in the microSD slot are horrible! So difficult the open and close! Maybe they want us to buy their cloud service! 😅

Toooooo long. Had to superfastforrward through it to see if it did what I need it to do, and that is access the video feed through LAN connecting directly to it via a web browser. No installs not nonsens - just a quick and simple check on what it sees. I hate to be bound down to using an app on a spesific device and a poxy *spit* cloud based payment service.

It has night mode just not in colour. The infra-red works amazing, it's that clear I had to walk out and see if the lights had come on.

Yeah you are right bro but not everyone can afford an 8 MP Camera. In addition to that, 8MP Camera will need a bigger memory card to record for a month as well.
