My parents had one these types of heaters manufactured by Monitor which ran on kerosene which has continually gone up in price, you may be better off getting a propane heater. For the cost of one of these big vented heaters you can get a wall mounted propane heater and 79 refills of a 40 pound propane tank.

That all depends on where you live. Propane is an unregulated commodity. It varies in price around the country. I've seen it in the mid west for a little over a dollar a gallon, but in Alaska it can run five dollars and up. I converted from Propane to Toyo stoves and have saved a bundle over the past two winters.

Is it possible to route the heat to a small 64cu ft sauna via flexible tubing? Similarly, can the exhaust be vented thru flexible rubber tubing to the outside? I know some furnaces have trouble with back pressure, and not able to push hot-air into such a confined space.

You can definitely install the heater on an inside wall. Toyotomi sells vent kits, extension tubes, and elbows to run to an outside wall. We would NOT recommend venting into a crawl space - its best for the vent to be fully outside, both for intake and exhaust purposes. Here is a link to the Laser 531/532 owner's manual (the middle size heater). It shows 10 feet as the max vent pipe run with up to 3 bends. It also has an installation section that goes into greater detail towards the end of the manual. toyotomiusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Laser-531-and-532_Type-AEnglish.pdf Thanks for your question!

The size of the exhaust hole running outside is the same between a Toyotomi and Monitor so no need to drill a new hole. However there have been many changes over the years to the heaters and the exhaust line from the heaters may not be the same. Toyotomi makes a flexible exhaust line as an accessory in case you need to change the heights between units.

The Toyotomi unit will run on either fuel as long as the heating oil is ultra low sulphur (less than 15ppm). A lot of states have already mandated that for their heating oil. Jon - great question! Toyotomi units run on 120 Volts AC, 60 Hz which is what most standard houses have in their walls. There are two wattage numbers for when it is running - Preheat which uses 240 Watts and burning which uses 48 Watts. This is very little electricity. It could definitely be ran for some time on a battery backup (maybe 1-2 hours of continuous use for a standard 900 watt UPS device). If you have a generator, even a small suitcase generator you could run this device indefinitely. Hope this helps!
