Toyota "Tough Times" 1991 TV commercial (Australia)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In tough economic times, you need a tough truck to survive. 1991 was the worst recession in Australia's history (not counting the Great Depression), but it actually worked in Toyota's favour. While most consumers stopped buying new cars, businesses still had to, and Toyota took advantage of this with it's wide range of trucks and vans. Ford and Holden lacked the products to compete. As a result, Toyota became the number 1 selling brand in Australia in 1991 for the first time ever, and has to this day held the number 1 spot. This ad aired in March 1991. Toyota trucks - you can get them in any colour as long as it's white!

Bet all those cars in this ad are still registered and being used and still worth money, decent 80 series, Hilux, 75 series still fetching decent money.

It sounds like the mojo singers in this ad. I have a funny feeling it could be them. Famous for c'mon Aussie c'mon and other jingles. Also responsible for the jingle made for John laws, actually there were two of them. One of them was c'mon lawsy c'mon. The other was lawsy's talking to me. One of the mojo singers is sadly no longer with us.
The land cruiser it is probably worth as much today as it was new in 91!!!
You'll notice that the ad has a *lot* of Ford products. Toyota was obviously taking direct aim at Ford here, who at the time, were selling the Falcon ute and panel van (XF), Courier ute, F-150 pickup (it's final year in Australia), Louisville/L-series trucks, and Econovans. Holden (GM) were really a non-entity in the commercial market at this stage, though the ad does show a Chevy truck (these were sold through Holden/Isuzu truck dealers back in the 80s). These days, car advertisements are very different in Australia - competitor's vehicles are almost never shown. Today, Ford in Australia have far fewer options. The F-series is no longer sold, Econovan has disappeared, and so has the Falcon. This leaves just the Ranger and the Transit as the only commercial vehicle options. Toyota, on the other hand, has also withdrawn from the medium/heavy truck market (though Hino trucks is owned by Toyota), but all other Toyotas shown here are still available.

Andy B Not sure on the Urvan, we never got those here in the U.S. The truck at 0:26 is definitely a Nissan, here in the USA it was called the 720, not sure what they called it in Oz.

Always wondered why Ford didn't continue with their econovans. I always thought they were well built vans that had good reliability.

@@esso0527 Ford wants to consolidate their line to force people into buying trucks so they only need 1 factory open making 1 thing. Notice GMC still sells the Savana van, but Ford cancelled the Econoline. The company CEO and their shit decisions is to blame.

They didn’t sell the F-150 there, did they? Because I know that the F-150 is an American-built truck and was only available in America.

Great ad. Sounds like the ad is voiced by mojo. The same guys responsible for the famous c'mon Aussie c'mon jingle used in promoting world series cricket in the 70s. I think you'll know who im talking about @CheesyTV.

Why is there a 1980-1986 Ford F-150, a 1973-1979 Ford F-100, and a 1973-1991 Chevrolet box truck in Australia? They shouldn’t be in Australia.
