Toyota RAV4 (2019-2024): How To Jack Up And Do Tire Rotation In The Toyota RAV4?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video, we will show how to jack up the 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 Toyota RAV4 and perform tire rotation.
On the All-Wheel Drive Toyota RAV4 with non-directional, uniform tires the rearward cross pattern is used. It means that the front wheels are moved to opposite sides of the rear axle, while the rear tires are moved to the forward axle. And kept on the same side of the vehicle. This will guarantee even wear and prolong the lifespan of your tires.
Tire rotation should be done every 5000 miles or 8000km.
Wheel Lug Nut Torque - 76 ft-lbf.
Tools Used: 2 Ton Hydraulic Jack, 3 Ton Jack Stands, 21 mm Socket, 1/2-in Drive Torque Wrench, Wheel Blocks.
RECOMMENDED TOOLS:
1. WHEEL CHOCKS - MAXXHAUL 70472 Solid Rubber Heavy Duty Black Wheel Chock 2-Pack, 8" x 4" x 6" - amzn.to/3DTPyDZ.
2. FLOOR JACK - Pittsburgh 3 Tons Aluminum Racing Floor Jack With Rapid Pump - amzn.to/3JHEttC.
3. JACK STANDS - Pittsburgh 3 Ton Light Weight Aluminum Racing Jack Stands, Set of 2 - amzn.to/3RwdS4x.
4. BREAKER BAR - GEARWRENCH 1/2" Drive Flex Handle/Breaker Bar, 24" - amzn.to/3ZJOjQf.
5. 1/2" TEARDROP RATCHET 11" - GEARWRENCH 1/2" Drive 84 Tooth Teardrop Ratchet 11" - amzn.to/3zj1I6I.
6. 1/2" DRIVE TORQUE WRENCH - GEARWRENCH 1/2" Drive Micrometer Torque Wrench, 20-150 ft/lbs. - amzn.to/3I6ja3p.
7. 21MM SOCKET - GEARWRENCH 1/2" Drive 6 Pt. Deep Impact Socket, 21mm - amzn.to/45rUjRE.
After you have rotated the tires you will need to initialize the tire pressure warning system (if equipped).
For vehicles WITHOUT tire inflation pressure display function:
1. Park the vehicle in a safe place and stop the engine.
2. Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified cold tire inflation pressure level (Front - 35 psi, Rear - 35 psi). The tire pressure warning system will operate based on this pressure level.
3. Turn the engine switch to ON.
4. Go to "Vehicle Settings". Select “TPWS” in the vehicle settings. Select "Set Pressure". Then press and hold "OK" button.
5. “Setting Tire Pressure Warning System” will be displayed on the multi-information display and the tire pressure warning light will blink 3 times. When the message disappears, initialization is complete.
For vehicles WITH tire inflation pressure display function:
1. Park the vehicle in a safe place and stop the engine for 20 minutes or more.
2. Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified cold tire inflation pressure level (Front - 35 psi, Rear - 35 psi). The tire pressure warning system will operate based on this pressure level.
3. Start the engine.
A message is displayed on the multi-information display. Also, “--” is displayed for inflation pressure of each tire on the multi-information
display while the tire pressure warning system determines the position.
6. Drive the vehicle at approximately 25mph (40 km/h) or more for approximately 10 to 30 minutes.
When initialization is complete, the inflation pressure of each tire will be displayed on the multi-information display. Even if the vehicle is not driven at approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or more, initialization can be completed by driving for a long time. However, if initialization does not complete after driving for 1 hour or more, park the vehicle in a safe place for approximately 20 minutes and then drive the vehicle again.

This, no kidding, has to be the best tire rotation video for AWD crossovers. It is simple and clear - not an easy task. You did a great job showing the step by step process and gave us very clear video of the jack points, jack stand locations, and everything else. I know it's a simple video, but great work on it!

Another great video. I have “ Summer “ rims and winter rims so doing one end of the vehicle at a time is the way I do it. I have marked the All Season Summer use tires / rims with the position they were on when I put the winter rims on. I believe someone else has the correct pattern for an AWD as 2 Toyota sites said on an AWD to move the tires to the opposite side and front to back, back to front. I won’t have the ability to do this with the winter tires as they are a directional tread pattern so next Fall I will just move the front rims and tires to the back and back ones to the front on the s@me side. The Toyota AWD system is one where the vehicle is usually in front wheel drive and when needed the rear wheels are powered as well. Some AWDs are full time AWD so both ends receive power all the time. I’m not sure if this would affect the tire rotation pattern. My Summer Allseasons on the OEM rims are cleaned, tire pressure checked, rubber cleaned and shined, a coating of protectant on the inside ( back ) of the rims to protect against brake dust etc and the front side is cleaned an waxed. Should be nice and shiny for about a week or two as it rains here quite a lot.

I would like to add that for snow tires, we should do it a little differently. Since each snow tire has its rotation direction, they should always stay on the same side of the vehicle -- so "rotation" for snow tires is actually switching front and rear tires on the SAME side of the vehicle.

I went to mavis for tire rotation on my 2012 lexus rx350 all wheel drive, they said its not worth doing a tire rotation because my tires are uneven. That i would need new tires. Should i still do the tire rotation on the uneven tires anyways? They did only a wheel alignment and my lexus still pulls to the right and left?

  • @endl3sdrmzz
    @endl3sdrmzz Жыл бұрын

Everything in this video is done correctly, but the rotation is done partially incorrect. For AWD and 4WD, you're suppose to rotate it cross pattern like an X. Fronts move to the rear of the opposite side and Rears move to the front on the opposite side. I was a tire tech for a couple of years, I did this on a daily basis, and of course, some other tire work. Other than that, great video.

  • @endl3sdrmzz

    @endl3sdrmzz

    Жыл бұрын

@Paul Not sure where you got this info but I rather do the rotation properly- even if it is heavily on the front end. It's called AWD for a reason since all wheels are still all utilized and you would want the treads for all tires to be worn evenly. Ask any tire tech and they would perform the rotation just as I had mentioned.

After you have rotated the tires you will need to initialize the tire pressure warning system (if equipped). For vehicles WITHOUT tire inflation pressure display function: 1. For vehicles WITH tire inflation pressure display function: 1. 3.

The torque wrench is calibrated and set to measure precise torque numbers and not designed to do heavy duty work. So you will mess up the calibration in time and worse case damage the torque wrench and have to buy a new one or even worse case screw up the calibration(not knowingly) and not get precise numbers which defeats the entire process of doing everything to spec. So use a cheaper breaker bar or a plain old tire wrench to loosen the lug nuts and hopefully not have to ever replace the more expensive torque wrench. Also setting it to zero in storage does the same as it relieves pressure on the internal mechanism which essentially prolongs the longevity and accuracy of the tool.

@@b0yd07 nah that was a mistake on my end for not doing enough research, FWD use the same square setup as AWD/4WD and only RWD use a staggered setup.

In another car years ago, my rotors were warped at around 30K and I think it was improper lugnut torque which did it. Morons.

No need to jack all 4 wheels up. Just do the back two forst and then change the front two tires. Or vice versa

    A) is it cheaper to have it done for you just once a year than to buy all the jacks / wrenches? B)Now you have worn your tires evenly you will have to replace all 4 at once, which is a much bigger financial hit that just 2 at a time. C) nice video, otherwise!

Should always replace four at once. If you only do 2 for example, the old 2 will be smaller than the 2 new ones due to wear. This will cause issues with wheel speed sensors as the 2 older ones will be making more revolutions per minute then the 2 new ones that are bigger.

    (A) The cost of jack / stands is a small cost but if you buy a good one like the ones sold at HF, you keep them for years and get way more in the long run. Plus you will be more on top of the condition of your car and will budget for 4 new tires way in advance if you are more engaged in the process. (B) Last time I replaced my tires (about 2 years ago), I was lucky that all 4 needed to be replaced so I did that. I now realize the aesthetic and ride benefits of getting all new tires together.

First and foremost, owning your own jack, stands, and wrenches will allow you to complete other very simple, but very expensive jobs like brakes as well. Go to the dealer for brakes / rotors, you're going to spend $500 - $1000+ easily. Do it yourself, spend $250. Also, you can often get great deals on a set of 4 tires versus a set of 2. If you're minimally handy with a wrench, you can save thousands of dollars over the life of the vehicle.
