These engines are really great engines. We have more issues with these engines in the States, other countries with these engine hardly ever have leaks or issues, the main reason is the CAFE regulation we have with the thin oil recommendations. Over in Dubai the LC200 have well over 400k with zero issues and LC over there are as common as honda civics here. They use a 5w40 and even 20w50 oil in these engines. The biggest killer to these engines is the 0w20 oil recommendations here in the US. I have a LC 200 and I use 5w40 and I have yet to have a leak of any sort.

That's really good to know and it makes sense. Zach, the guy I helped with the job, asked me my opinion on whether he should continue to use the 0w-20 grade oil. I asked him if his engine consumed any oil and his answer was No. So, I said he should keep running the 0w-20 grade oil. I'm going to share what you said with Zach. Thanks for taking the time to comment and share this information with us and our viewers.

Your welcome. I would definitely run at a minimum 5w30. If he is in southern California area or where he doesn’t experience temps below freezing 10w30 would be even better. These engines are very capable of getting over 500k miles.

silicone grease those little O rings under valve cover help them stay put during cover insertion

  • @TimmyTheToolman

That's a smart idea. However, I wasn't too worried about displacing them during the valve cover installation because before you get close to those o-rings coming in contact with the valve cover, you first have to get all the spark plug tubes aligned with the spark plug tube gaskets. Once you get those aligned and you press the valve cover down, that's when the valve cover comes close to touching those o-rings. It's my guess the valve cover doesn't really start to contact the o-rings with any amount of force until you start cinching the bolts down bringing the valve cover in firm contact with the head surface. But, depending on how the person comes in with the valve cover, maybe they could displace those o-rings. We dove the back end in first, and I'm assuming most people will do the same since that's the logical thing to do with the firewall, wiring harness and heater hoses in the way on the back side of the engine.

@@patrickthomas6170 Yep, freaking hose clamps did a number on my left forearm reaching in to get to those back bolts near the firewall. I went through probably 7-10 pairs of gloves and I use fairly thick ones from Harbor Freight. I kept snagging them on sharp objects.

I've beeve n watching your channel for a couple of years now. Thanks for the detailed instructions. I've completed many DIY projects thanks to your channel. Recently, I decided to replace the Valve cover gaskets on my 06 tundra That I purchased in 09 with 34,000 miles. I started on the pasenger side. The top bolts and the one end bolt were verry loose. However, all four of the bottom bolts the head sheared off. All four! I've been putting PB Blaster on them twice a day and trying vice grips as well as the double nut method. Even a map torch for heat. Nothing! Wondering if you might have a sugestion? East Tennessee Truck. Thanks

I would continue to use heat and penetrant. Heat around the broken off bolt, not the bolt itself. You're trying to expand the metal around the bolt so it's easier to remove. Once you've got it pretty hot, and you've applied penetrant, grab onto the broken bolt with a stud extractor, like this one: amzn.to/3vDTOGU and hope you can get it free. I wouldn't go too crazy with the heat because the heads are aluminum. Use moderate force. If it doesn't budge, use more heat and penetrant. You don't want to break the bolt off in the head, because then you'll be forced to drill and retap the threads. I hope this helps.
