Hi there Jun!! My husband and I are troubled by the wheel spacers on your tires. (We are residents of the US) There is a reason why they are illegal in certain countries. Those guys at Redspring should have known better than to offer the spacers as a solution to your offset issues. Please please please go back to Redspring and have them offer the correct rim offset for your tires and take the spacers off ompletely. It is their fiduciary responsibility to ensure your safety. It is very unsafe to have those spacers as they may cause your wheels to fall off & disengage. Be well & stay safe my friend ....

Hi there, thank you so much for your kindness and valuable insight. I really appreciate it :)
A word of advice from someone who lives in a country full of Toyota landcruisers. Wheel spacers are illegal in Australia for a reason. I don’t know if they explained to you that they will alter your steering and put extra pressure on your wheel bearings. I would be changing the rims for a deeper offset. The problem with getting rims from the United States is that they don’t have any experience with landcruisers at all. Australia, on the other hand has been the testing ground for the land cruiser for a very long time. There are several businesses here with all the right equipment that you need. 38 mm spacers are way too thick. Trust me you need to change the rims.

Thank you so much for taking the time. I appreciate your valuable insight :)
That's the first thing I noticed from your choice of wheels, it needed more negative offset. The wheels you had where too inboard and did not fill out the guards enough. In Australia, spacers are illegal. Plus if using them, they put more stress on your wheel bearings - wearing them out faster. It would have been best to choose a wheel which has the required correct negative offset for your vehicle (ie. -20 at least).

Those spacers should be fine but yes, a set of more negative offset wheels would be better.

Red Springs could have advised you with the correct offset rims suitable for your car. You can also check the offset in your old rim. Spacer whilst it overcome the issue but not the best long term solution.
The truck looks great. Great choice of wheels. I would have addressed the wheel bearing issue by replacing both front bearings. The bigger wheels and tires, plus the spacers, will accelerate the bearing issue.
@JunOutdoors
Күн бұрын
Thanks for your insight. Yes, I have gotten both the front bearings changed and serviced :)
Your vehicle (and mine) is a rare breed so not everyone knows how to service them. If you look under the front of the vehicle, behind the wheel where it meets the axle, you will see a square plug. It is a service plug for adding grease to the front bearings to stop what has happened to your LC. A 14mm 12 point socket will normal get them undone if you don't have the correct square socket. I use a cheap icing bag to get the grease into the hubs. I would also recommend having new wheel bearing both sides and while they have the axle apart, tell them to fit king pin bearings and an axle oil seal, (Genuine Toyota only for oil seals.) Ask if you need any help
Its not good to have spacer at your wheels...you should change the rim that have an offset....theres a lot of rim in the market that suit your LC perfectly without using a spacer

Thank you so much for your input and insight :)
Jun, as pointed out by many experience 4x4 owners. It’s not good to use thick spacer. If Redspring is professional in 4x4, they should have warn you about the wheelset offset when fitting the 285/70/17. You should complain to them that they are not selling you the correct offset wheelset since you are purchasing both wheelset and tyres from them. Typically, we are mostly using 15-16inch rim for our Land Cruiser, and maxxis tyres are value for money here in Malaysia. And I don’t use such big tires for my LC2, it slower, heavier and more stress other than it’s great aesthetic look… 😅

After having added the 38mm thick spacers, please insist for another wheel alignment check. Keep a copy of the printout for future reference ( in case,your tyres suffer any abnormal/premature wear due to the 4 spacers. Pls note.

Never use spacers, just get a set of wheels with more negative offset. The shop should have advised accordingly.

Another great video and really enjoy your content. The new shoes look fantastic but I need to mention spacers can be dangerous especially on a 4WD. If Redsprings did the right thing they would have ensured you had the correct negative rim offset which would eliminate the need and extra cost for wheel spacers.

Wow! That's a lot of weights to put on a single wheel to balance it. In my experience, having that much weight means something is not right. Either there is a manufacturing fault on the tyres (or not well made) or on the wheel itself. Let's hope I'm wrong.
@omegabulldog5001

That's pretty normal for most MT and AT tires. That's probably due to the agressive tread patterns.

Since getting my 80 series, I've had 4 sets of tyres fitted to it (all ATs), and I've never once had needed that much weight on a single wheel. I guess, I've been very lucky with the choice of AT tyres I've made.

That is a lot of balance weights for a new rim and tire.
almost 33 inch tires, that's pretty big but of course it's a Landcruiser so no big deal. Although you may find your fuel economy be affected some what. Honestly, unless you are going to do really hardcore offroading you don't need anything larger than 31 inch tires. Note about the bearing;- Better get it change quick, in my opinion. Those spacers that rest on the hub should be ok since the weight of the vehicle is not resting on only the nuts.

When you are on a set big wheels, it is also good to invest on spare wheel carriers as huge wheels on the rear door will add stress to the door hinges in long term.

Always here to support... Regret to say, that's not the best rim you've choosen. The shop should've more expertise to advise customers, it's like they don't even inspect your vehicle and recommend you accordingly. Well what to recommend without the skills and knowledge it seems. I don't recommend spacers for 4wd especially if you're going for moderate off road that sometimes can stumble into heavy ones. Those balancing weight on the rim seems a bit too much, especially for the new rim. Anyway.. Cheers from kg Buayan, Sabah offroaders.

Hello sir, thank you so much for your valuable insight. I really appreciate your concerns and sharing of knowledge :)
The wheels and tyre shop should advise you on the correct wheel offsets and also ensure there are no rubbings before they even allow you to leave the workshop. After mounting the new wheels happily on the car, it is sad to see you need to compensate such huge wheel spacers to accommodate the huge difference in wheel offsets.

Your changed out black wheels for black wheels
How is it that after installing they realise that ‘oh its scraping against ur suspension’ Are they not aware (or experienced enough) when they were installing the wheels? So much hassle to assemble all 4 wheels only to realise later on that ‘oh its scraping is it?’ Also a wider wheels would hv better patch contact on the road.

70 kinda too thick if u not gonna do offroad, 65 probly better (bigger making more noise), but if u using 275, mayb would have solve ur spacer needed problem (i'm using 285/60/r18 which shorter then urs in total, but 60 need to avoid rough driving to avoid hitting my cosmic rim.....which i did hit once😢 ). i'm using TOYO AT japan imported only RM680 each, which cost lot cheaper then this brand and BF. adding spacer and without wider ur fender and wider mud guard, u will face tones of dirt that splashed up from ur front and rear tyres, over ur side door, side window, even the inner part of ur door handle. 1 lastthing, when u doing alignment, thre's a very little space that they can adjust ur front wheel forward or backward, which u need to remind them, for my case, i need to find the same worker to do the alignment for me, he knows my problem, i need exactly the wheel position on balance to avoid scrubbing the "banana skin".
