I just came into owning a 2001 100 series LC, with 'only' 160k on the odometer. It was the only truck I could find in the whole state of Georgia that didn't have upwards of 275k miles, so I snatched it as quickly as I could. "Here dealer, take my money". I used to own a '02 LR Discovery II, and as charming and capable as that rig is, I like knowing I can beat on my Toyota without it crying and popping a T-case gear. (or leaving me stranded on a mountain, still sore about that one) Great review. As mentioned here in the comments, the value of a $90k Land Cruiser is only realized 25 years down the road when you've been driving the same vehicle day in day out and she still runs like a champ.

I've owned most of the various generations of Land cruisers, and the 200 series is by far my favorite for an everyday driver while still being very off-road capable. Apart from that, at the top of my list are the legendary 80 series and I've always loved the iron pig. Great video by the way, very well put together

Nice video! I enjoyed it. I have a 2018 4Runner TRD Pro (Cav Blue) that I've taken out on the dirt...would love to see how much more/less I'd get with a 200 series LC Heritage. I'm tempted to get one just because it's the last year in No America.

98-99 had lockers on 100 series, a 97 is a 80 series. Another interesting tidbit on the 100 is the hydraulic suspension goes up 50mm in high mode, everyone knows that part, but it also goes up an additional 20mm in low range after sensing slippage. Read that in the manual.

Great video!!! You referenced a $13 blue tooth adapter for the 100 series. Can you share the product specifics? Does it allow you to play music through the speakers? I’m looking to do the same on an 06’ LX470 that only had phone BT capabilities. Thank you!

I live in the north west and let me tell you LC 100 is impossible to find under $10k and if you find one it will be above 300k mileage. If you were too picky and start looking for year 2006-2007 you are going to pay above $20k so there you guys this is the reality talk. If you only paid $5k for that 2000, consider yourself extremely lucky 🍀

It’s hard to determine that a new 200 series is worth 91 grand in a video like this. You need to come back in 25 years when it’s still running great and still super reliable and then you can determine that it was worth 91 grand.

Haha well it's worth $91k to only allow 1500 people per year... The Lexus version sells for more than that but sells about 3x that per year in the US. I've got a 2013 LC that I got for less than $40k with 110k miles and it's been 100% worth what I paid - like you said, the thing just runs and never has issues.

I think the 200 series is a much finer tune 100's but if I where to pick it's more about style, I prefer the 100's body style over the 200's.

Damn my '01 just hit 107,000 miles so I guess by 2042 if will finally be broken in !! Losing the running boards on any truck usually makes it look higher up. That's typically the first mod I do. I think I'm going to get me a 200 if I can find one that fits my criteria. A 4-5 year old with 50K or less would be about perfect. CarMax actually has one like that right now but I'm not ready to buy anything quite yet. Nice review btw !!

‘05 and up 100-series landcruisers came with a revised version of the 4.7 with VVT-i that made about 278HP and came with a 5-speed transmission that replaced the 4-speed they had before. They are the ones to go for. Would have been a more fair comparison to put that model against a 200. It still doesn’t make them fast cars but that extra almost 50HP and one extra gear does make a big difference, both on road and off it. Regarding the diff locks, that’s a strictly US problem. In other parts of the world such as Europe, Middle East and Australia, 100-series were offered with diff locks and other features such as auxiliary fuel tanks and dual batteries. Oh yea...and V8 diesel engines. Also what you said about the 200 series effectively having 16 gears with the low range engaged is not true. You are speed limited while using low range so generally the box won’t shift when in low range. It’s just an extra reduction gear for ultra low speed operations requiring all the torque the engine has. You’re confusing it with the kind of transmission that 18 wheeler tucks have but that’s a whole different kind of application.
