Thank you for this video sir. I replaced the water pump and then learn the bearing was shot. Checked the markings line it all up and it was late so I came back the next day and rechecked the torque before putting the cam cover and everything else back on. Long story short the car is now slightly knocking not too loud but it's there and it kind of goes away and then comes back. At this point I really don't know what to do at this point. Any good advice I would appreciate it. Thank you

Was the belt cover warped at all? If the timing belt is hitting it from the inside it could be from a warped cover.

This job should be 3-4 if you’re fast, 5-6 if you’re careful, a novice should still be able to do it in a day

And I believe my front cam rolled a counter clockwise. Should I expect any valve damage? I got it done a week ago. Everything is fine had to buy two kits. First kit was poorly made. Had only one timing mark re-ordered aftermarket Toyota kit with all three marks everything went smooth no problems.

Most V-6 engines are interference, I think this one is but haven’t seen one with damage yet.

Are you sure you didn’t dislodge the air tube on the other end of the engine?

Nicely done. Thank God you used Time Lapse! And did I hear correctly at 19:34 ?? "Lift the engine up to get the bracket in? Did you use OEM belt for replace? Any brand water pump better than others? Lastly, you said got to have patience for this job...where do we order that? 😗

Yes a lot of the time you have to lift that end of the engine to get things in and out, I usually use Gates belts and at the moment we’re using Import Direct water pumps on these, that’s always subject to change as companies get bought and sold and their products change quality.

Yes I use them as well, ironically I was told they were called “bulldog clips”. Lol

So hey there are two small black grounds near the engine mount that you have to remove. One is connected to the engine and we can't seem to find where the other goes. It has a right angle connector on the one end. Any clue where it is supposed to connect to?

I don’t remember, but they usually have ground straps that go from one side of the mount to the other, often bolting to the strut tower

How can you remember where every bolt and nut goes when re-assembling everything?

Usually, most of the time it’s something that you figure out using common sense and process of elimination. I often group bolts by what they hold to help.

How many valleys are in the timing belt in between the two top cam gear marks I was aligning the crank to get my cam marks on spot when the belt broke my belt have no marks

I’ve never counted teeth, new belts usually come with marks as well as having the marks on the cover

Im like a timing belt. I try to get off to but the old lady refuses me. In all seriousness we bought a 2005 toyota highlander with the 3.3 and i plan on doing all this work

I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander bought new in 2006 (wife’s car) and only has 31,000 miles. What di you think, dies the timing belt need to be changed because of age.

As a preventive yes, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one break due to dry rot that wasn’t close to mileage. I think you’ll see leakage out the water pump due to age before the belt would be in danger and they would get serviced as a set anyway.

Is there a way to inspect the timing belt? I just recently purchased a 2017 with 66k miles but im worried about the age of the belt

Yes, but often by the time you get to the point that you can see it you’re halfway to replacing it. If it’s a question on age then I would recommend replacement.

What’s the purpose removing the cam gears? To replace the seals?

Yea, anything deeper than what I did here, I believe you’re supposed to pull them in order to remove that rear cover but I was able to wiggle the pump out without being that invasive.

What’s a decent price for this repair on this exact vehicle?
