Losing the remote start function on the key fob is absolutely BS. Toyota will piss off a lot of people with that move!

I just found out my wife’s Toyota did this. We will never buy another Toyota and will not be paying for this service! Unbelievable how greedy corporations have become. And unbelievable that any consumers pay for these. Just buy a vehicle from a company that doesn’t practice this much greed. I think toyota will lose a lot of repeat customers because of this. They definitely lost one

I just got my 1794 truck in December and it really sucks that you lose the remote start feature on the key fob if you don't renew. I have used both up here in the Poconos and I like them, but to take them BOTH AWAY??? Not cool Toyota.

If enough people refuse to pay for these services then Toyota may wise up and keep the remote start feature intact regardless of subscription. If they don’t, out of principle I’ll simply put in an aftermarket one and Toyota can KMA

I purchased my 2020 platinum in Nov 2019. I got that same letter recently and did just renew the connected services (annual). I don't like paying for what I feel should be included with the vehicle, but I do like and use the remote start occasionally. The other services, nah don't need. Toyota did extend my services for two extra months having notified me via email, so you may get the same.

Literally found this app and service today and linked my new 2021 TRD Pro to it. Started and unlocked my truck from the app. Said to myself I should do a video on this on KZread, hours later I turn on KZread and TundraDude doing the video already😂. I haven’t received a letter or request to pay yet. not cool! And I’ve never had to remote start my truck since I don’t live where it gets really cold. $8 bucks for this, $12 for Netflix, $10 for Imusic, $14 for Disney plus... crap all adds up and high tech sucking our pockets dry while Uncle Sam takes his share too.

Hey Tundra dude...great channel thank you. Just purchase my 2021 1794 in December. I just signed up for Toy connect. I'm doing the trail right now. I honestly don't believe it's worth the money. Remote services work sometimes. Most of the other services I don't use. The only thing I really like is the remote startup, however sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Can you recommend an auto start for us follower. Ps. I could never use my remote to start my truck.

My understanding is that the key fob remote start will work for 10 years. Apparently, 2019 and up can start their vehicles with the key fob without the subscription up to 3 or 10 years based off the audio system that you have. Audio Plus, its 3 years free, after you need the subscription, and premium its 10 years, after you need the subscription.

Hey Mark. I pay for the WiFi hotspot cause it’s nice for the kids on trips. It’s $200/year for unlimited data and I don’t *think* the other fee-based services are required to get it (could be wrong though). For someone without kids, I probably wouldn’t recommend it because the data speed is actually slower than on your phone (4G vs. LTE). For that reason, I don’t let my phone connect to the hotspot-only the kids’ iPads. Hope that helps!

I agree with you Mark , all the services should be free as long as u own your truck and the original buyer imo, as much as we pay for these trucks why wouldn’t it be Toyota come on , that being said I might renew when time comes since I like some but not all the connected services ,and I plan on keeping my 2020 pro for a while since it will be paid for this year , that kinda helps my decision .Great vid Mark as always , stay safe out there !!

Sometimes I think the “Internet of things” has gone too far. The features which are functions of the vehicle should absolutely be included free of charge. Information services like WiFi, “On Star”, satellite radio, and in some cases GPS navigation are justifiable on a subscription basis. Otherwise, it’s just a dirty trick to make people pay for things which normally come standard on a key-fob remote. I certainly would not pay extra for them. 😡

One of the big letdowns when I got my 2021. Cannot believe that they don't offer these services at no charge. I will say however, that the remote lock/start feature will not be much of a loss because it doesn't work worth a $hat. I can rarely get it to work on the first try when using the app. The key fob is not much better unless you're standing right next to the vehicle. With the TFL Video showing only 18.4/MPG highway with the 2022 3.5 V6 and I get 18.1/MPG Highway with the awesome 5.7, why would I change. Aftermarket starters are cheaper and work better. I am a Toyota fan but with the prices they want for the new tundra, then to ask for more per month before any normal person pays off their loan is crazy. It has me really looking at other brands for my next truck

I use the WiFi, I do a lot of work in my truck with a laptop and it’s way faster than my iPhone hotspot. I think I it’s $15 a month unlimited data I think I.

Hey, Just wanted to let everyone know that my "trial" for the Toyota app has expired. Along with it the remote start. Just and FYI when you're not subscribed to the app, remote start won't work even with the key fob.

Mine will expire in October, will not renew because I don't use it. I never even signed up for the free wifi.

The Toyota brochure states that the remote fob should work for 3 years without getting a subscription. My stopped as soon as remote connect stopped..... I talked to Toyota last week they still haven’t gotten back to me yet.

Agreed. It's free with Ford so why should we pay for this? I find the App doesn't work well anyways. Connection issues.

Born analog, points, plugs, condenser, Holley 650 carb, tractor magneto, hand crank wrist breaker. King pins instead of ball joints.Old school. How the hell did we make it without cell phones. Btw still don’t do cell phones. And the best thing NO ONE could track us. Now I have a Tundra 2019. Our gps was a map, never said make a legal “U” turn. Wow 😜

    1. WiFi hot spot, if I traveled extensively, this would be a cool feature especially for the dead spots in rural areas. 2. Remote Connect - I live in SoCal, this is useless for me. 3. Destination Assistance - From my vantage point, this is simply a matter of convenience. I grew up reading maps. 4. Navigation - My TRD has Apple CarPlay so a simple connect of the lightning charger cord fixes this. 5. SOS - I will tell Siri to get hot in emergent situations.

Hi Mark, OnStar is $350.00 per year and Ford Sync is $60.00 per year. Chrysler UConnect is $180.00 per year. If I had a newer Tundra, I would pay the fees. That is just me. Toyota still has to pay for the monitoring infrastructure.

Not renewing either. I came from an 03 Tundra so all this fancy stuff is unnecessary. I think I used the key fob one time and my phone one time to start it just to see how it works. It is crazy the price you pay for these vehicles and they cut this stuff off. X-M radio is not for me either. I would be alright using a key to open the door and putting that same key in the ignition. All this fancy stuff is an expense we will pay for down road possibly.

They extended my service on my 2020 TRD Pro for 60 days. I did not pay for the service and so it was shut off a few weeks ago. It indeed does remove the ability to remote start from the keyfob, utter nonsense. I will replace the toyota remote start with Compustar for under $200. 1 price and done. Janky move by Toyota, removing the fob remote start. Boo! I won't be held hostage by reoccurring charges, no thank you!

I personally pay the $80 a year bcs I enjoy starting my car from the bathroom while I'm getting ready for work when it's cold out and also when it's hot and I'm about to leave work. As far as the hot spot I already have a hot spot on my phone so I don't use that. I also agree with you on the safety connect. There's too many options on today's phones to pay extra for that. I do disagree with Toyota taking away the key fob abilities if you don't have the subscription. That's ridiculous. That should definitely be a free perk just because you purchased their brand.

So you buy a new truck with a remote start, but then you can't use the remote start unless you pay their ransom? Did they disclose this to buyers before they take their hard earned money??
