Toyota Coaster School Bus Conversion - Water Tank and Water Filler Installation

Toyota Coaster School Bus Conversion - In this video we install our custom Toyota Coaster water tanks as well as our water filler.
We install two tanks for fresh water, under the bus behind the rear wheels on either side of the bus and install an inlet for each.

Your music is HEAPS louder than your talking voices. I have to turn it right up to hear your voices then the music blasts my ears.

Were you have installed yr hoses from your tank up into the cabin , you have cut the hole for the hose. When you drive over a period of time, little vibration will cut it. You need to place a cover over the hose were it goes through the metal hole. A plumbers elbow will do it, fit hose inside it and hose clamp and fill pipe with silicon in between elbow and water hose....at 10.21

Thanks David, yeah we know 😅 we siliconed some of the holes but definitely didn't do all of them. It was on the list of things to get around to but we ended leaving before getting a chance. Bad of us we know!

Very informative vid. Are you able to point me in the direction of where to purchase these tanks and the fittings?

I think you will need to put rubber between the tanks and metal straps holding them as over time it will wear through. Also a metal stone guard covering the bottom of all your tanks is a good idea. Keep up the great videos.

Thanks! We definitely bought rubber to go between the tanks and the straps but we have been slack and haven't installed it yet. A stone guard is something we also want to look at doing but haven't worked out the best way for us. Lifting the bus is also on the list to give us a bit more clearance. So many things on the list 😂

Haha it certainly wasn't easy! We were originally going to have 2 grey water tanks but left it at one after Shane couldn't be bothered installing another tank

Good luck! We were going to do 2 grey water tanks but Shane hated installing the tanks so much that we ended up only installing one haha! There will be a video soon. Even though our grey water system works, it isn't amazing so we weren't going to put the video up until we got it sorted, that way we could give people info on what works. Hit us up on Facebook or Instagram with any questions and we can try and help out in the absence of our video.

Hey guys, just wondering if you have had any trouble with your tanks being that low? Iv put some in #gusdebus and they also sit about 100mm below the body panel..I havnt been anywere with them yet,but have been worried about them bottoming out on the road somewhere...any issues you guys have run into ?

Hi Benny, We have definitely bottomed out a few times! The main spots are coming in and out of service stations where it dips. We have to take them on an angle rather than straight on. We have also stayed in a bush camp and got a little stuck in a rut where they bottomed out. Ours got quite a few scrapes, but never any issues beyond that. We just try to be mindful. Hope that helps!

Hugos tanks were not a fun install. First time I tried metal strapping as recommended. But then tried aluminium strapping 50x 3mm was able to attach one end with high tensile bolts the slide the tank into position and bend the aluminium up into position. Drill a whole for a long bolt big washers then tighten the bolt strap cane up tight against the tank may have even deformed it slightly.

The build is progressing well. However I do feel that you need to review your water tank placement. You have compromised your approach and departure angles. You will be going off road at some time and when you climb an inclination (approach angle) your rear end could drag on the floor (departure angle) this could easily scrape your tanks and could possible tear them out. www.offroaddiscovery.com/off-road-driver.../geometric-limitations-of-vehicle . Check out this site for a more detailed view point. Also try out ...Snail Trail 4x4 Feb 13 2018 (youtube) for another explanation. I could not find the angles for the Coaster but the same principles apply for any vehicle. Many vehicle which are low to the ground can have problems leaving their own driveway. For this reason I have placed my tanks inside under the bed at the rear. My gene is mounted underneath and behind the rear wheels but at the same height as the body line, so as not to compromise the angles on Costa Ricas back roads which are similar to Aussie off roads. As a guide nothing should be lower than the original body line of the bus. I hope this will help you. Best wishes to you both.

Haha you are certainly right! We have found being on the road for a couple of months now that there are definitely times we have been worried with the water tanks. We have scraped them once coming out of a petrol station, and another time going over some large grassy bumps too close together! I think in saying that though, the petrol station taught us to be a lot more mindful, and the grass bumps we knew we shouldn't have gone over but did it anyways! Besides that we have had no issues. We will one day look at getting the suspension redone which will hopefully raise the rear a little too. We will definitely have a read of the link you sent us as well, see what other options there are. We always knew it was going to be an issue, but we decided to prioritize storage inside the bus instead. For now but, being mindful has definitely helped 😊
