Rivnuts work great for fastening brackets to the plastic.

if the rigidity was an issue you could always double stack the stuff for each side help with rigidity

You could use that rubber fairing trim to finish the circumference. Nice work.

Awesome! Thank you. I just had trouble spending $3-400 for one that weren’t made for my rig (too old). This will be perfect. I’ll put my blackout behind them to keep it cooler for my dogs. They can look out the 2nd row or back window.

This is really a great idea! You're so right, why are molle panels so expensive for the simplicity of what they are!? Your idea will help a lot, thank you so much!!

Totally doing this on my FJ and if I can get a big enough piece, I might put it on the back rack of my mini truck.

I just spent over $400 on two panels for my 4th gen. I don't understand the price tag when you consider the simplicity of the item other than their serious weight and strength. But who hangs more than 50lbs on these? Glad to see you got creative. I will use your attempts to apply to my 3rd gen. ❤

You should attempt a shelving system in the future

Agreed! I hang the basics on mine. A shelf system is something I thought of. Maybe a winter project next season!

I'm share the same mentality as you, I use Digico consoles and rather spend all my money on audio gear. Also have to make everything for my 4runner on a budget because of that! thanks for the vid you just saved me some money!

FWIW, they make silver sharpies. Acetone will take off excess marks.

What’s the long term review of this project? We used PVC landscaping lattice for, of all things, landscaping. The expansion and contraction based on temperature was alarming. I really would like for this to be something that works; I’m just having questions given my experience with the product. I’m guessing that using aluminum angle iron across the top and bottom instead of brackets would stiffen the whole assembly.

Holding up great! Zero complaints. Haven’t noticed any issues over time or temperature differences. Aluminum angle iron would absolutely stiffen it up though, great idea!
