Love the 4Runner videos as I'm going through my 1st gen right now as well! I bought an high-boy truck a few years back and it had a couple really thick (like 3/4" to 1") rubber horse stall mats in the back. I loved having them for protecting the bed and stopping things from sliding around. You can cut them for a custom fit and I think they are pretty inexpensive. Might be a good option for the bed of the 4Runner too.

I know I am late to this video series but wanted to help out with the rear section question about how to prevent damage to any sound deadening or foam. When I had my 89 4Runner, I put down a piece of 1/4 or 3/8 plywood, attaching it to the body and then laying carpet over the top. gave a flat "bed" surface an protected anything underneath.

Looks good! I’m curious how much different it will feel/sound in the cab when driving. Maybe we’ll be able to hear music now! 😂

Foam the bottom and make a template out of wood to remove and add as needed. You can carpet the template and lowes got these awesome rubber mats to toss down over that for easier clean up and wash.

Didn’t feel great! It was trashed though.

Rubber stall mat from tractor supply to protect the rear floor.

@RM Garage would you do anything differently? Looks like you didn’t use the foam on the 80 series.

What about spraying the undercarriage of the truck or car with like 3M rubber sealer? And what about the seals at the top of the doors? And then Noise cancellation tires?

Great job! Just out of curiosity, won’t the entire cabin of the 4runner be covered w/ carpet (including the bed); so how come you think the foam would be destroyed as it would live under the carpet layer?

Yeah it will be. I was just thinking about when I load heavy or awkward objects, even with a carpet it may pierce or tear the deadening underneath. It doesn’t really matter but I didn’t think it was worth it to put the foam in the back. That could change!

How much weight does this add?

How would that hold up to water that might get inside from driving through creeks ?
