My first train set! A clockwork mechanical set made by Marx Toys! Low cost alternative back then to Lionel and American Flyer.

Marx made great toys and great train sets as well! I run o scale marx trains, and love my marx wind ups! The ones I have all have sparkers on them. there is something about a tin wind up train that the electrics just don't have. Thanks for sharing, and best of luck!

I had the 1960 +- version of the "Wind-Up Train." I had a glossy black metal loco. My tender and caboose were "Pennsylvania," and the caboose was red, not sure what color my gondola was. The track worked with O-27 cars. The damned thing was FAST!!! Sometimes, I took the loco apart and just ran the "works" around the track!!! Thanks!!!

I got this set for Christmas 1968 ( Lost the key....). There are several Christmas Home Movies on You Tube ( mid-60s to early 70s ) that show this set!

Man. That thing is fast! Beautiful pressed tin. Old toys are so awesome. We picked up some old steel Tonka and Nylint trucks for my son a few years ago, because new toys aren't nearly as nice as the old ones.

I feel out of place in the marx community cause I collect marx tin plate, 1935 through around the mid to late 50s, I don't like the plastic stuff they made later on, but I'm only 17 which is kinda weird in my opinion
