I am 77-yeard old and live alone with my 86 pound female German Shepard, named Ruby. However, Ruby is now an amazing 13-14 years old. She is still alert, but sleeps day and night, except for a 1/2 mile walk daily. Yes, she does have a little arthritis in her back legs (Vet gives her pain meds), but she still can walk very well. She also is a diabetic that started to drink a lot of water, but on Vet meds to control that too. And, just recently went 100% death (no cure). Since she is a very smart dog, I now use hand signals with her. To see her, you would think, "Wow, what a beautiful healthy dog." Unfortunately, at her age she will not be with me much longer. So, I am preparing for this heartbreak, and researching a small dog under 12 lbs. that I can carry every place I go. I have researched many dogs that are low-maintenance (short-haired), and this video convinced me the Toy Fox Terrier is perfect for me. At my age, I can not handle a large, or even medium size dog anymore. And, most places will not allow a large dog, unless it is a Service Dog. So, this little dog will go everyplace I go. And, it is not welcome, then I am not welcome, and I will take my business someplace else. Thank you for the video. Tom, retired in Orlando Florida.

Yes they are a Wonderful breed! I have owned 3 in my life and all 3 were easy to train, understands commands, loving, playful, funny and great companion. Correct not good with small children ONLY because kids have a tendency to pick a dog up frm under front leggs and walk around, this is how the TFT can get hurt.

Some of them can be born naturally bobbed, but it is definitely not a normal thing. Their tails are docked. And if they are nippy, that's bad breeding. My family raised these dogs for like thirty years, and while some personalities/builds are less suited for families with children than others being biters has NEVER been one of the issues with children. We never once had a family contact us or report issues with aggression.

The bobbed tail is an american thing mostly, and i didnt even know it could happen normally. here in Finland its actually illegal to make a bobbed tail, which is why vry few dogs here have those.

I have one. He’s 6 1/2 pounds of attitude. His tail was docked, most of them are, although his breeder sometimes has naturally bobbed puppies. He doesn’t like to watch tv and he is very vocal, an excellent watch dog.

Mim Universe mine is definitely a lap dog. If I even watch towards the recliner he is there ready to sit with me. Very high energy but also a dedicated lap dog.

I disagree with low exercise requirements. If mine doesn’t get at least one walk a day she’s bouncing off the walls! Even with more exercise she’s still a ball of energy!

Mine was not "nippy" resent that! Also TFTs have a remarkably noble aspect. Very self-contained little personality. TFTs can be high energy and need exercise so I wouldn't recommend for older people. Not so much a lap dog. Also, like most small breeds, they are prone to overlarge internal organs like lungs and heart. This contributes to heart murmur. Also, these are very popular with puppy mills because they are small and fairly easy to breed. Don't buy your animal from a puppy mill or breeder.
