In US news and current events today, a dangerous pesticide called Chlorpyrifos, which is known for attacking the nervous system, is still legal in the U.S. and is still being used in most states. Farm workers have been deemed 'essential' by the federal government to maintain food supplies during the coronavirus pandemic (the COVID-19 pandemic). In addition to heightened risk of contracting COVID-19 many of these workers are at continued risk of exposure to toxic pesticides. And it should be illegal to be that way, due to the health and well being of others.

Farmers should be utilizing regional Biological organisms to fight Pests. Its more expensive atm, but only because it hasn't been commercialized yet. There are soil organisms as well as predatory insects that can fight pest organisms without detrament to crops and the environment, they just need to be deployed intelligently and crops need to be monitored properly. With the age of technology machines in combination with workers could be used to search for and identify infestations. Farmers need to be forced, chemical means should be used as a last resource and should be extremely limited to how much they can use, to encourage use of biological means. Large pesticide companies have been lobbying to keep harmful chemicals legal for decades, it's time to STOP poisoning ourselves and the environment.

I was experiencing the exact same thing. If I can and will do something about it, fine, but most of this is appalling- fear and anger-inducing, which causes Sympathetic Nervous System fight/flight, which suppresses rest/digest and immune system functioning. Be well and tks for the reminder...this ain't my bliss. Might choose to be mindful of this.

It will take many solutions to reduce pesticides that are destroying more than bugs. Remember if it is good for the birds and the bees it is good for you and me. Trees have been removed from the ends of farm fields. More trees will result in more birds and the birds eat many of the insects. More trees please.

I have been very concerned. I suggested a solar hoisting a two mast woven sail that could zap the locust. Also, using game birds and domesticated birds teach them to eat various bugs thru their life cycle like larva that don't dig up crops...move them in wagons some just live there too. Thanks

You don't need to train birds to eat insects LOL. But poisoning insects also poisons birds who eat them. Its time we stop relying on chemicals as a main source for pest control.

Have the lobbyists be FORCED to write advertisements for the COMPANY they represent, viewable by the public, indicated the REAL notion/mission behind these "oh we're not corporate just 1000acres farm, but definitely not corporate" so called small farmers. Lets hear HOW PROUD they are to "feed the world" while their crop is solely from a demand of quantity, and let the farmer tell the public how he does NOT feed his family conventional crops...

All insecticides are highly toxic, that's the job kill insects. It would seem to me that banning one organophosphate may not achieve anything and could cause more harm if another organophosphate is used in higher concentrations as a replacement which is a likely outcome. The highest risk for this product group is children getting leukemia in agricultural areas with crop dusting. This has been known about for 30 years and practices have improved. So it's fine to identify a problem but without providing an alternative it's not going to change. If there is alternatives for mass production at similar costs then ok. I personally favour organically grown produce but only at a certain price point.

You know why its still legal? Because it all has to do with the economy. Just as you dont provide free schools for everyone to educate (want poor people so prisons system and legal system grants big money) you also need people to be sick. Therefor you still have toxins like this used. In EU we have banned substance that color food (bad english sorry, dont know the correct word) but in USA this colorising substance is still being used in american food. Its been banned since 90's in EU. You need them in order to make your insane healthsystem thrive. Im scared by watching videos like this, how do americans not react to this? But i guess americans always has to do it their own way, no matter the cost.
