I was actually a champ without ever using ballcam but recently i started playing hoops and i learned to use ballcam and ever since ive gotten a ton better and im champ 2 and c3 in hoops now

I've been friends with Hoax for about a year now and we've only played a handful of games but one other thing you failed to mention is that he is UP FRONT about only using car cam. He mentioned it the very first time we ever played together, full disclosure, when we were both in Diamond. My point is not only has he made it to Champ, I am 100% certain that anytime he parties up with someone, he actually tells them his playstyle. Much, MUCH respect to both he and DonorDaddy for playing the way that is comfortable for them, despite all the crap they have probably gotten over the years. The argument that positioning and awareness are more important than mechanics is evidenced in this video just as much as it has been by Turbopolsa in 4 World Championships. Also, kudos Sledge; you consistently come up with new ideas for videos that are ALWAYS entertaining. Mad respect brother.

@@hotzenmonster I get what you're saying, but in a racing game, there's rarely something unexpected happening behind you that you need to react to whereas in rocket league, you spend maybe half the game with the play happening behind you while you rotate and not knowing if a challenge has been made or if you're far post or near post rotating or if your teammates operating like you're assuming or not is just unnecessarily crippling yourself. Being able to see behind you while rotating makes the difference between easily collecting a turnover and letting the ball roll in because you didn't know you needed to save it. There's no rule saying you have to try your best to use all the tools available to you to win or even that you have to prioritize winning over having fun, but trying to elevate this kind of playstyle beyond the point of just having fun doesn't seem too sustainable.

@@hotzenmonster a racing game is in no way a fair comparison to rocket league. These guys will never make it to a high rank without ball cam. There is absolutely no argument anyone can make that will make anyone think that car cam is better then ball cam

One of the little things I found interesting is after donair bumps daddy chungus off the wall at 8:46, he lands and then *turns around* to watch the eventual goal instead of just driving away watching it with ball cam. It's really interesting how different car-cam players play the game

Its probable that the lack of shadowing play ability could hinder their progress into gc+, but for this matchup theres no point. Their opponent is a diamond getting 2v1'd

Donair and hoax did mention that the lack of shadow defense is the main reason they're only diamond in 1s. However they both got to champ in 2s completely on their own. I can only wish them the best of luck in their ranking up and I hope they eventually make it to GC

​@@eylamo7576 i dont think it would be that much of a hindrance. if you're champ and are put in 1v1 or 1v2 situations often, it's probably a symptom of something incorrect you're doing in your play. shadow defense is important more so in 1s as you are quite literally always in a 1v1 situation. even when you're being put in a defensive position with no teammate back, insta challenging (which is what i'd expect without ballcam) would be lethal at low champ because contrary to popular belief, champs cant flick on demand and underappreciated the art of 50 50s. i also wouldn't expect champs to be able to adapt and preemptively flick lol

I'd actually love to 2v2 or 2v1 them, not to be toxic but to actually see if they play any differently compared to normal champs i get in my games as I highly doubt I've ever gone against anyone like these people :)

I'm on a discord group with Hoax and we are about same rank. Thy do not play much different from other champ. There is some decision making that are different because of information they have. While he do not see the ball at every moment, when he rotate back he almost never, never hit his teammate du to him looking where he is going. But overall you can't tell much that he play different. The only advantage is when you know it you can figure out what he can and cant see well and use it to your advantage. If you have the skill for.

@@Wraikey Im a ballcam user myself, and usually I would rather ballchase to avoid this situation entirely. But also, you have the little arrow that points to where the ball is, and if you've played enough, you can get an intuition as to where the ball is and is going to be, even if you cant see it. So there are ways to deal with this situation. Plus, people at my rank (d2 d3) are pretty bad anyway, so usually you just do nothing and they will give you the ball

I really enjoyed the video, I can’t say enough on how much I love seeing trash talkers get destroyed.

It's actually quite funny to see 2 champ players that only use car-cam (which is really impressive) beat people who think that they can win against them because they play different, people should know better than trash talk when they have no idea how impressive these 2 are and they are an inspiration for me to become better at rocket league and have a match with them for fun knowing that they are really good

What a great way to prove that rocket league basics is truly what makes the difference between good and not so good players

It's very satisfying to see that these champions prove that they deserve their place by demolishing the toxic players. Great video and I'd like to play against one of them but just for fun.

Like a few others have said, I think I'd just be curious to see how different it feels to play against a CC champ. I feel like there are probably ways to exploit those camera settings against them.

that c1 + d2 actually did surprisingly good. i mean its a champ + diamond vs champ + champ and only lost 2-1 . like legit they're pretty good. they're toxic, but like it or not they're good. they were also 99% chance very nervous and didn't play to their fullest ability.

The first time I watched the no ball cam champs I literally couldn't even comprehend that I was watching champ gameplay, I was like a plat again "my games don't look like this AT ALL what the hell." But you have to really watch your games to find that yes, they do. You can't deny these gents skills, they didn't get lucky to get to Champ rofl.

Wow Hoax and his teammate worked so well together. In plat 3 in 2s and I’m glad I didn’t roast them last video.

I was a car cam diamond player, however I haven’t played in the past 2 seasons, maybe the odd one or two matches once a month. I’m used to car cam since 2016 it’s been the default setting and it’s second nature to me. I’ve tried a few matches on ball cam and it’s way easier for aerial plays or setups for air dribbles. It would still take me hundreds of hours to get used to ball cam.

I use car cam to catch bouncing balls and setup flicks but I would be clueless on the field without ball cam

They might not know how to half flip, but I'd think it's not because they can't, but because in many situations where you'd normally half flip, they would just completely lose track of what's happening because they don't use ball cam. So they just never needed to learn it, since it would not be useful for them. I'm actually surprised they can play 1s at all lol. It's impossible to shadow defend without ball cam, they would just be staring at their net having absolutely no clue what their opponents are doing. I'm actually kinda curious to see them playing more 1v1s

Alright just gonna point this out. I play with hoax almost daily. I use ball cam, he doesn't. It is VERY rare that I can tell that he doesn't use ball cam. There was a point that I actually forgot he didn't. He knows his rotations, he has his mechanics down. And overall, is a good teammate. He calls people out for being out of rotation all the time (which they are). You don't need amazing mechanics to get past C1. You need good rotation, and good game sense.

@Moustafa im a very "awake" gamer, so im very good in rotation and in reacting to what others do (also because i just dont play when i dont feel like it) + i never learned in freeplay or training packs to do flip resets, air dribbles, ceiling shots or whatever more there is, just for a very short time (all in all 20min or so) when i had the feeling that id like it. You could say im a very intuitive player that just learns what he wants when he wants and likes to learn new things (also in rotation). (Btw. Im still trash, maybe thats why i cant really half flip xD)

@Moustafa I'm a C3 and I've learned how to do half flips pretty well back in plat I think. But the truth is that I don't find myself in situations that I need them often enough so my muscle memory for them is pretty trash and I'll sometimes land one right how I want and sometimes just crap myself and miss entirely.

This was like a motivational video telling me yes you can get to champ division

The talk of mechanics is exactly what keeps people in low ranks. I thought my mechanics were getting really good but for some reason couldn’t get out of D3. Now I’m realizing positioning is just as important and I’m working on that so I can finally hit champ.

Sledge, I’ve been subscribed for a while and out of all rocket league content creators your videos never fail to keep me entertained with amazing presentation and an immersive order of events. If there’s anything to be learned, don’t worry bout others and worry about your own self improvement

For those wondering why half-flips aren't that useful, it's because their main use is to _continue_ going backwards if you already are. If you ever have to hit the brakes and half flip, you probably don't need to half flip. That's where this simple skill called "powersliding" comes in. It's faster to turn around with a powerslide than it is to hit the brakes and half flip. Where a Gold player would half flip and not powerslide (most Golds can't powerslide), GCs would more than likely have used powerslide instead of the half-flip.

In the same vein I feel like speed kickoffs aren’t that useful either (unless you’re like GC and up and are flawless with them) Everytime I encounter a speed flipper in high diamond/ low champ I win the kickoff by just doing a normal kickoff that causes me to hit the ball second

I’m champ 2 and can’t air dribble or anything but this really inspires me to practice and I dunno why also amazing video!

Im c2 in 3's and c1 in 2's and I would be happy to have those guys as teammates in solo q. Their rotation looks really decent and that to me is way more enjoyable then ppl with good mechanics

@Captain Obvious its funny how wrong you are. Quite the opposite is true. Im more a mechanical player although i do rotate but sometimes i go for risky challenges etc cuz im a aggressive player. As such I like teammates that rotate well, defend well and are more passive then agressive. In that way we dont overcommit. That's why I said that the guys from the video would be a good match for me.

Hoax and Donair are unique players, and wondering how they reached champ, but anyways congrats on reaching champ!!

Best instant toxic karma: playing dropshot with a "What a save!" spamming toxic teammate. We go to overtime, and the teammate completely missed the ball and let's them score. Instantly, all five of us spammed "What a save!" Losing never felt so good

To be honest even grand champs in a short clip could look like diamonds sometimes...

I love it when KZreadrs give trashtalkers the smack they deserve!

those car cam users are really good ngl like ive played for a while but i cant really get out of diamond but they are using car cam which is showing i need to practice a lot more

I love how that one guy’s first criterion for a champ player was the ability to speed flip?? In what universe is speed flipping a necessity for reaching champ???

Another great video. Really satisfying to see my fellow car cam players stomping some other players, showing it is still a viable (if maybe not an optimised) way to play the game. Are these guys on US servers? I'm on EU and would love the opportunity to queue with fellow car cam players, if there are any around the C2 to C3 mark. I have been playing since 2015 and would really like to make the push to GC finally. Thanks again Rocket Sledge.

The cc champs with their incredible game sense would probably be gc if they used bc, props to them for making it to champ with cc tho lol

I used to play with solely car cam so it's always nice to see people who got far with that

Even after this I still feel like I could beat them, as someone who has quit I feel like I can beat both of them, but I’m probably wrong and I’ll be destroyed to the ground.

i am a total beginner in rl, i started playing like a month ago and i dont use ball cam, it annoys me so much and is frustrating especially when the ball i in th air.

You should try to practice it. It's pretty crucial to see the ball otherwise you won't know what to do or where to go. Trust me after a little bit of practice you'll get used to it. I used to not use it but now I'm silver and I use it every game. I hope this advice helps you.

What's worse is those toxic players are probably very mistaken in their abilities. And it wouldn't surprise me if they smurf in casual so they go up against players like me, giving them an even greater FALSE sense of their abilities. And as several high-ranked players have shown time and again on KZread, strategy and positioning will win you more games. Sure the better your mechanics the more strategies you can implement. But mechanics, in the end, are just tools. There's still a huge chasm between having those tools and knowing when to use them. I mean, I know how to use the power tools in my garage. That doesn't make me a master woodworker. And I know how to use the utensils I have in my kitchen drawers, but I'm not about to challenge Gordon Ramsay to a cook-off.
