Just beautiful! Thankyou, Abra. I don't know much about him, only that he was a great song writer, and had an endearing presence on stage. You are right, he was one of a kind.

Townes will pull the listener into the song not just with words and ideas but with his off beat guitar playing - he leaves you wishing the song would never end - every word is perfect

The fact a hip hop guy would sit down and listen to TVZ in itself is a admirable thing. You are to be commended for that. My kid listens to hip hop, I don't know if I would listen if he wasn't playing it. You have inspired me to listen more closely next time. I would recommend others to you but enough people already have. Keep it up Abracadabra and thank you

He definitely fills ALL the space available when he's on stage! The main thing with him though, is that he was SO fucking genuine. He lived the life that he wrote and sung about. Lots of other legendary singer songwriters- like Tom Waits with his avant garde noir style that hinted at seedy criminality or Bob Dylan trying to emulate Woody Guthrie's train hopping hobo folk style- their persona's were a put on. But not with Townes. He didn't have to fictionalize anything the way most artists do. He just tapped into a rich, deep vein of human suffering and hopelessness and sung the truth of it all in a way that feels real. Ol Bob and Tom have amazing music, and I love em both! But they are both had to invent a place to write from. Nothing wrong with that, but it feels a lot different when someone like Townes comes along!

Another great reaction. Love the diversity in your choices of artists. Townes is a legendary song writer. If you get a chance check out some other great songs of his, "Pancho and Lefty", "Nothin' " and "For the Sake of The Song". He also does a great version of the Rolling Stone's "Dead Flowers". ✌

Great to see folks discovering and reacting to brother Towns. Though I've been listening to him for decades and love all his stuff two of my favorites are "To Live is to Fly" and probably his best known and most covered song "Pancho and Lefty". Another performer in the same vein and a friend of Towns you might enjoy is Guy Clark. I recommend starting with L.A. Freeway, Cold Dog Soup, Let Him Roll, and Boats to Build. Peace and Mahalo.

Townes was a musical & lyrical genius. He was quite eccentric as well- he insisted that he composed this song in his sleep. He was different, no doubt, but his songs are some of the most legendary & most covered songs in history. There will never be another Townes Van Zandt. Another fantastic song writer that is in his realm though is Kris Kristofferson. If you don’t know any of his music, check him out. “Loving her was easier” is a masterpiece. “The pilgrim chapter 33” is also phenomenal. “Sunday morning coming down” is also one of his best. He wrote one of the most covered folk songs in history- “me & Bobby McGee” as well.

This was the first song I learned playing guitar. It's a great introduction to fingerpicking. Songwriting like this is a whole nother animal. He's got too many great songs for me to list but you'll have to look hard to find a bad one. Tecumseh valley is beautifully sad. To live is to fly is completely uplifting

Townes best friend was a guy named Blaze Foley. There is a great movie about the two of them called 'Blaze'. Blaze might have been more amazing than Townes, they played off of each other. Most of Blazes recordings did not survive but a couple of them are fire. It would be wonderful to catch your reaction to Blaze Foley singing Clay Pigeons. Man, that old dog could make a grown man cry. John Prine does and excellent cover of Clay Pigeons as well. Love your channel brother, subscribed!

Blaze was killed, shot in the heart trying to help an old man. If you like that artist try Lucinda Williams song Drunken Angel it's a story if when Blaze was shot and killed. P.S. I subscribes right after your Waiting Around To Die review.

Loved your vid, @Abracadabra_303 ! If you wanna review a contemporary artist who continues this kinda personal and poignant story telling, I'd kill to see a reaction to Anais Mitchell. Specifically, Young Man in America (off of her album XOA if you prefer the stripped down one guitar one voice, but also on her album of the same name for a more produced version). Her lyrics are next level, I listen to her like I listen to my favorite rappers. Timing, story, word play, all of it.
