@@Guardianautoservices I always have a question the first one come to mind is training. In regards to hook points and the cars with the electronic shifters, I ran across some I couldn't figure out how to get in neutral. So how are staying updated on these vehicles
@Guardianautoservices

@@pgreen9022 there is apps like shiftlock and towstandard that offer pics and tutorials but honestly youtube is great for finding out others. Typically, good ol fashion skates is my go to or even dish soap / WD40 to slide the locked axle at low speed.
other great video What about working for coport salvage cars
Can you make one on cars who get towed on the left side of the freeway? Best way to handle these tows and who contacts CHP driver or customer. TY.
@Guardianautoservices
Жыл бұрын
I haven't dealt with CHP as i am in Georgia but typically interstate calls i use as much attention grabbing PPE gear as i can. Lights, cones, and high visibility gear. Take your time and watch your back. I always work on the opposite side of traffic and walk backwards toward the truck. I only secure the vehicle enough to move to a safer location to finish my tie downs.
What about the insurance and things like that what exactly do I need to take off
Thanks again for the info. Helps very much. Im trying to get financing for a truck and it seems like as a startup the deck is stacked against me. Any advice u have? Thnx

I would look at IAA or some of the better motorclubs to use to get started. But depending on what kind of capital you have. A good google adwords campain will do the best to get you started.

Do you have a waiver that you have customers sign that have rust parts or even a form for damage claims
@Guardianautoservices

Yes general damage waiver. Just covers you in certain situations. Good to have. I have a video on the subject.
Can't get a call. Nothing. Seen call come thru that were already assigned. The cheap calls mainly come thru after customer has waited ALL day. What can I do to actually get calls? Already have insurance and 3 motorclubs.
@Guardianautoservices

It sounds like you're fairly new in business ( less than 5 yea, s id guess) when starting with motorclubs, you always start toward the bottom of the list. They send the calls to their priority contractors first. The best way is to focus on your retail marketing, in my opinion.
Have a auto repair shop.Bought a rollback. How do you price tows?hookup?mileage unloaded,loaded?what are average fees these days. I want to be in the right range as competition. Thanks for the information,very helpful
@Guardianautoservices
Жыл бұрын
Typically it's a hook fee then mileage. You can offer flat rate in a given area also. Everyone prices differently. Most light duty is 75-100 to hook and 4-5 a mile now. But you can always call around in your area and see what others charge. But figure out what makes you money. Your bills are different than anyone elses.

@@Guardianautoservices ok thank you. I’m in northeast pa and everything is about a 30-45 min drive away. So for example If I had a call that was 30 miles away and only say a 5 mile tow loaded, how do I cover the expense of a unloaded 60 mile trip to and back from the call compared to a local tow that is 5 miles from me and 5 miles loaded?

How about light roadside assistance, tire change, fuel, lockouts?? Are the motor clubs good for that?
@Guardianautoservices
10 ай бұрын
Not really. The cheapest provider always gets the work. But, you can network with them and be a "non contracted" service provider. Typically, you can get closer to retail rates. I also did alot of out of area calls in which i could charge mileage. Worked for me back then when i was small.

@Snakes885 no way to do light roadside and make that kind of money working for motorclubs. Their contracted rates are 18-32 dollars a call. You could realistically do 12-14 local calls a day working a full day.

My car got towed last year, and I got charged about $275. That's why we want to get into this business. But you said the motor club one call is $20-30?? I mean it's cheaper than an Uber. How does that make sense and how can it support the business. The insurance is about $3500 a month.

Motorclubs are the Achilles heel of the business. They are needed but as a provider they cannot be your entire business model.

But... I will also say do not get into this business for money or have the thought you can make xxxxxxx amount of money. You will fail or be miserable, maybe both. This is a business that you have to fully enjoy or you won't make it.
